One time in high school a friend of mine was a sophomore when I was a senior and he took on a block as a RB during a pass play and he got knocked out and had to be woken back up, he could walk though. When I was a junior a senior we had was playing safety and took on a guy on the sideline and got his back pretty messed up and he couldn't feel his legs, he had to be take off on a stretcher and they had to cut his jersey and his pads off, he was able to come back later in the season though. I'm glad this guy was giving a thumbs up

When I was in the 9th grade I witnessed a player on one of our rival teams get hit so hard and he got up slowly and eventually seemed like everything was good. Apparently, he collapsed on the sideline shortly after. Ambulances had arrived for seemingly no reason because everyone was paying attention to the game until the game was halted. They sped off and everyone was wondering what was going on. That night, the kid was pronounced dead. I wanted to be more candid at first but it feels weird calling him ‘kid’ abcnews.go.com/GMA/News/parents-tackling-common-football-injury-sons-life-continue/story?id=63152724 I did not know Taylor as he was part of the opposing team. But this event really brought the game of football into a new light. Our schools became connected in our grief. To be in the halls and see the way our own players carried themselves following this incident was insane. I think they all became men that day.

when i was in third grade i went to one of my brother’s high school football games and one of his friends was tackling and hit his head on the leg of one of his own teammates. he broke his neck and was paralyzed. he can kind of walk now and he actually lives down the street from me now. this was probably around 10 years ago. it was very scary but the whole community came together especially since we had just had an elementary student die in a bus crash in our town.

When I was in the 9th grade I witnessed a hit that killed a 14 year old kid on one of our rival teams. He got up and you could tell he was feeling some sort of crazy feeling that made him hunch over as he walked it off.?Eventually seemed like everything was good. Apparently, he collapsed on the sideline shortly after. Ambulances had arrived for seemingly no reason (because everyone was paying attention to the game until the game of course, initial it was halted) The ambulance sped off from the sideline area near the opposing team bench. Everyone was wondering what was going on because there was no obvious injury scenario like the ones you are used to seeing like in the XFL video for example. Although I’m sure the away team fans and students had a much better vantage point being right near the away bench. That night, the kid was pronounced dead. Disclaimer: This video may be a little graphic in the proper context abcnews.go.com/GMA/News/parents-tackling-common-football-injury-sons-life-continue/story?id=63152724 Edit: So I wanted to be more candid at first, but it feels weird calling him ‘kid’ I did not know Taylor personally, but I felt the weight of his passing. This incident was unheard of, nobody ever expected this kind of thing to happen especially at a high school level. It really brought the game of football into a new light. Our schools became connected in our grief. To be in the halls and see the way our own players carried themselves following this incident was insane. I think they all became men that day.
