In 2002, the Crusaders won all 13 matches the team played in the competition, becoming the first side to make a clean sweep of the Super rugby season. No other side has achieved this feat in the time since. They have come close last season with 1 lose , vs British Lions 3 - 12, yet they better there record 17 wins including the final of all Super Teams. I felt the Lions lost their best opportunity to win the title in 2016, when they brought a B team to Argentina in the final round where they lost to the Jags, and gave up home advantage to the Hurricanes for the final. Last year was also a great chance with the home final, but the red card to Kwagga Smith, and a rising Crusader side, they were left short. The Lions were definitely a better team the previous 2 years, and the red card may of been the difference last year, but in 2016 they were beating NZ teams in Johannesburg comfortably, and even though I am a Saders fan from the south of NZ, it still boggles my mind why the Lions decided to give the home ground advantage in the final to the Hurricanes in 2016?!? This year, the Crusaders were just too good for everyone, and there was no shame in losing for sure. The defence was just too good from the Saders, and the Lions did no worst than the Canes, and the Lions had the extra travel to contend with. You were worthy finalists Lions, sorry the Crusaders were too good, even with 30% possession and territory....defence was the Crusaders greatest weapon. I hope the Lions manage to find good replacements for the departing players!

As a South African I must admit that the Crusaders are well deserved winners. Their road to the final was way more challenging than the Lions and were completely on a different level. I feel the likes of the Hurricanes or Chiefs would of put up a much better flight but in the end the Best team won. Well done Crusaders you have our respect!!

My gut feeling is that the ABs aren't that far ahead of the pack any more, if at all. I think the Boks and Wallabies will be very competitive in the upcoming RC. In fact, I won't be surprised if we lose 4 or more games this year: the away games against SA, Aus, Eng and Ire, for example.

I have to mostly agree. The frustrating thing about Elton is, that he is able to have a massive game where he carries the team (like the one against the Waratahs), but be average to flat out dreadful o once he puts on the bottle-green & gold. In a way, I feel sorry for him, that he just melts under pressure and cannot seem to sell his potential, but a sad personal story should not stand in the way of the national team. Rob du Preez should be the substitute for Handre, until such time Willemse comes of age. Rob has everything Elton has and then some. He's bigger, more physical, and far better on the boot. He deserves to get a second chance (and 3rd and 4th and 5th ...) before Elton gets his what 25th? 26th?

Bostrovas generally the ref was very hard on the Lions. Lions pop out of the scrum and its a penalty when the Crusaders did it it was a reset. Crusaders are good enough to win without help.

When I heard that it was going to be an New Zealand ref taking the whistle I already knew that the Lions would be on the losing side in my opinion the ref should have been from South Africa to rule out any misconceptions , is notorious for allowing Crusaders specially Joe Moody to do what ever he wants in the scrums.The Lions disallowed try was a try should have been viewed under magnification as the ball clearly touches the line this could have turned the game. The second Crusader try should have been blown up as the player clearly was tackled and should have released the ball the last Crusader try was also scored on a slight forward pass.So the Crusaders are good when assisted by the ref.Lions proper champions again playing against stacked odds.

Combrinck has had no good games out of the last three and, since his injury, his defence is so poor that even Rhule is looking good again. Cronje is still kak, Coetzee blows hot and cold, Whitely is nowhere near Duane's league, Dreyer still gives away too many penalties, Skosaan... eish, what can I say?!? The only reasonably decent players tonight were Marx, Brink, Mostert and Dyantyi. Not sure why Elton continues to be the only disliked one; there are others equally as "deserving".
