Well done to the young Ireland players, a great win for us, against a very good side, who to my mind would be right up there with most top 10 test sides. Fair play and thanks to the Maori's for two great games that from an Irish perspective will serve hugely in the development of the young Irish guys playing against quality opposition. It's my hope that the Maoris get games on any and all future tours, they were a credit to themselves.

Exactly. NZ Maori regularly beat Fiji, Samoa and Tonga. They have beaten many other nations and are no easy beats. Well done Ireland. What a great tour so far. 2/4 wins. Most tourists struggle to win one game.

On Saturday Ringrose was tackled off the ball before receiving the ball from Sexton near the line for a possible try, with no AB to stop him. Larmour tackled as the player received the ball and there was an Irish player ready to stop a possible try yet that is a penalty try and the other wasn't?

The difference was that JS never passed the ball, he dummies and was caught with the ball in his hands and although the player was tackled off the ball technically he was never going to get it. In the other case the pass was made and the receiving player was tackled marginally before he actually touched the ball! Very fine lines/ margins but that is my take on it🤔

The reason given for the no-penalty try was that the All Blacks had adequate 'cover' in the case of Ringrose getting the ball and advancing towards the line. The implication is that if no cover the try would have been awarded. The test for awarding a penalty try is if no foul play would a try *probably* have been scored.

Yeah it was very even contest - and the quick thinking quick line- out leading to Ireland's 7 pointer was THE ONLY reason Ireland won. MAB found holes in Irish defense and shows that counter attacking is the way to beat a "rush defence" as they are not in their usual "offside wall" positions . Well done indeed MABs - you deserved to win in style with brilliant running rugby as opposed to the very boring, ho hum, bulldozing, crashing, unspectacular tries of the Irish.

i didn’t watch the game only seen these highlights now. maybe it’s my biased viewing but looked to me the ref missed a few calls but i’m not a referee so what would i know. the first irish try, sounds like the ref blows the whistle before they take the quick throw therefore the ball should be dead no? and the second irish try could argue that one their players got in the way of a defender. obstruction. and then the same for loves try. anyways congrats to the irish on their first win over the māori ab’s and to their second win on nz soil!!

The reffing just looked inconsistent in general from what I saw. I don't think it favoured one side or the other. It was just pretty poor reffing, but both sides had to deal with it.

@@IrishGary1 I think your point (and the point of others regarding this particular situation) regarding the inconsistency is fair. I'm not sure that should have been considered a 'free run to the line' taking the illegal tackler out of consideration. Another Irish defender was nearby and there was still a significant distance to the line. However, my point is the referee was generally very poor and inconsistent throughout the game. He wasn't even going to blow a penalty; he had completely missed it. I think he was poor in general and both teams had to deal with it.

Yeah, maybe, but I think the Irish are not afraid of them anymore and know they can play better rugby. We used to play Hawaiian teams and they were gigantic and chanted and war danced before games. They also played barefoot. it was pretty intimidating, to say the least. One of our vet players said in our pre-game meeting: " Hit them low and hard, grabbing at their feet to start off, then they'll go away...". Sure enough, they didn't like getting hit low and we won, but it was a lesson learned too. Fear no team, or you are going to lose to them every time.

A totally different game from the time I played in the 90's. No lifting, or precisely controlled scums either, just to name a few...

Most of the cards were not safety related. The laws are there for a reason. You can’t tackle a player before he receives the ball. You can’t repeatedly infringe inside the 22 to prevent a try. You can’t knock down a pass to frustrate the attack. Those are all cynical plays that must be punished, otherwise you don’t have rugby at all.
