Great video! I especially enjoyed the airplane flying backward in the intro. Kidding! Yes Covid interrupted our European travel as well 😵‍💫

I HADVERY SIMILAR RESULTS WITH covid. I TRIED TO RENT A CAR WHEN i ARRIVED AND WAS TOLD THREE TIMES, THAT BECAUSE OF COVID AND BREXIT THERE WAS A SHORTAGE OF CARS. I didn't get to Skellig Michil to see the Puffins. Caps lock was on. I loved it. I didn't get to see as much because of the car. I did get to see the family Castle in Drimoleague and I got some REAL mozzarella cheese in Mackroom. I got out to the Gaeltacht in Galway and I got to see Lurgan, a school for Irish that uses video production, song and dance to give practice for young students to practice Irish. My time was mostly southern Ireland: Counties Cork Clare, and Killarney. I plan on returning in 2026, if I can. My last trip to Ireland was 1979.

Really enjoyed watching your video. My wife and I are planning our 14 day trip for May timeframe in 2023. So I have been watching a lot of videos gathering ideas on what cities to stay in and what to be sure to see. Got lots of good ideas from yours. I take a lot of photos and some videos. But I noticed how you used mostly all videos for yours with very few if any photos which I think is better than photos. The quality of your videos was really nice. Would you mind telling me what camera you used to record your videos and what video quality did you use? Also I went over and watched your swimming with the humpbacks. That was fantastic...I was amazed at how close you got with the baby whale and the mother didn't seem to mind. Or you cut that part out. LOL. We go over to Maui every year in the winter and I take photos of the humpbacks....but now you've got me thinking I need to go to Polynesia and just get in the water...that might cure me of them. thanks again for the nice videos.

Hi T&D, thanks for watching! All the video was shot with a GoPro Hero 10 with the following Protune settings: For sunny days my settings were as follows; 4K 60fps or 30fps, Linear+ mode with Horizon Leveling, White Balance 5000, ISO Min 100, ISO Max 200, EV comp -0.5, Color Vibrant, Sharpness Medium. For cloudy/rainy days; 4K 30fps, Linear+ mode with Horizon Leveling, White Balance 5000, ISO Min 100, ISO Max 800 (or maybe it was 1600), EV comp 0, Color Vibrant, Sharpness Medium. For indoor shots I believe I set it to full auto. The whale videos were shot on a GoPro Hero 7 Black in 2.7K. I honestly don’t recall the settings. And yes that baby was crazy! IT got close to ME. I think the mom threw up her fins in frustration, trying to keep up with all it’s shenanigans. We found that same mom and baby 2 days in a row. They were fun to watch and made all the others seem boring (not really)! It was an awesome experience. I highly recommend it. Thanks again for watching!

Thanks for sharing this video of your Ireland trip. What type of sneaker/ walking shoe do you recommend? Waterproof or would a good comfortable sneaker be suitable? What was the temperature during your visit? ❤

We were there in mid to late May. Daytime temps were in the 50’s for the most part. I think we hit low 60’s a day or two. I wore Merrell Nova 2 waterproof sneakers during the day. I think they’re marketed as a trail running shoe. I found them to be good on and off pavement. The sole provided good grip without being too hard or too clunky. At night I wore my Blundstones which I treated with nikwax before the trip. Liz just wore her running shoes (not waterproof) during the days, and boots (I treated with nikwax) at night. If you’re like us you’ll be walking a lot, so make sure your shoes are comfortable. I think we averaged 18K steps per day. In retrospect I don’t think waterproof shoes are mandatory, but if you have a pair that’s comfortable, it certainly doesn’t hurt. There was one day in particular that we had steady rain all day. There were things we wanted to see (and not skip) that day that required getting out of the car and walking around. I was happy to have waterproof, grippy shoes. We were both happy to have rain pants that day. Liz was also happy to have rain pants the day we visited the Cliffs of Moher; not for rain, but for the wind. Thanks for watching Barbara. Enjoy your trip!

I know y’all go to Bonaire a lot ( and appreciate those videos as well). Have you ever considered home exchanging? We’ve done that with various folks in Europe - 12 times so far - all good experiences. Just thought I’d ask. We trade cars with the exchangers, too. Super affordable travel! We often take side trips from the home base, too.

thanks for the video! i’m planning a solo trip to ireland in 2023. questions: when, exactly, did you go? looks like you had the sites practically to yourself. 😄 also, any tips for driving on the left?
@KevinandLizGrogan

Thanks for watching Kelly! We were in Ireland the last 10 days of May. We had more rain than normal for late May which probably helped a bit with crowds. The “big gun” sites like Cliffs of Moher etc still had tons of people, but timing our site visits and patience helped us get some of them all to ourselves (if even just for a little bit). As far as driving on the left, just close your eyes. Just kidding. Seriously though it’s not really an issue. You’ll get used to it. The main difference is having to judge distance to the left hand side of the road while driving a right hand drive car. You’ll most likely hit a curb or two starting out. If you’ve not driven on the left before, I recommend writing yourself a note and taping it prominently on the dash. Maybe a big arrow pointing left or “keep left,” whatever works for you. You’ll be fine. One other odd thing. Some of the European brand cars like Opel (and maybe Peugeot) are a little different when shifting into reverse. Unlike the normal system of pushing down on the gear shift while moving it into reverse, there’s a button on the front/underneath the gear knob that you depress while shifting into reverse. Manual transmission of course. Enjoy your trip!

Beautiful pictures. I'm going to have to look up Ross Castle as it's my maiden name. Dad always insists we are of Scottish descent but my DNA doesn't show that much and I can trace our tree.

Interesting fact, the Scots was an Irish tribe that lived in the north part of Ireland and went and named what is now Scotland.
