hi there! I am wondering if you have a gear list anywhere? I'm thinking about a dive computer and just wondering what people use!
@KevinandLizGrogan22 күн бұрын
@@jodienamandafan I don’t have a written list. Liz and I both use a Garmin Descent G1 as our primary computer, and a Suunto Mosquito as a backup. I really like the Descent G1, but it’s probably not right for everyone. I wear it as my everyday watch/fitness tracker. I like the size and don’t mind the monochromatic screen. A lot of people want a color screen. It does NOT offer air integration which many people want. The price point worked for me given that I wear it everyday. Picking a computer can be an intimidating task. Be prepared for the Shearwater fan boys that will try to make you feel stupid for not buying a Shearwater. They’re incredible computers no doubt, but there are numerous choices that will most likely fit the bill. I recommend beginning by setting your budget, then determining what features are must haves, then nice to haves. Happy to share my opinion as you narrow things down.

Another tip on the tourism tax. If you get a payment error, check your e-mail - it might have gone through anyway. I got the error, tried again, got the error again, happened to look at my email and I had 2 e-mails for successfully paying the tax both times. And they do not issue refunds

Kevin and Liz, I have so enjoyed your videos and help. I am bringing a group of 12 next week and am using tons of your tips! I have been trying to find dinner restaurants for this big of group and have been turned away by several. I have searched your videos for "dinner" spots and am not finding anything. can you recommend a more budget places that could accommodate 12 people?
@KevinandLizGrogan26 күн бұрын
12 is going to be tough. Can you break into smaller groups for multiple tables? For choices a bit easier on the wallet you can try El Fogon, Mi Banana, Yhanni’s Arepas, Divers Diner, and Pelican Pizza. Have a great trip! Thanks for watching and your kind comment!

Impressive video, Kevin and Liz Grogan. Excited to see your next upload from you. I smashed that thumbs up button on your content. Keep up the fantastic work! Your insights on the southern entry point for diving the Salt Pier were very helpful. How do you think seasonal changes affect the underwater visibility and conditions at this dive site?
@KevinandLizGrogan27 күн бұрын
Thanks Keyser! Wind reversals, tropical storms passing to the North, pretty much anything that churns up the water there will impact visibility. I can’t say that anything, in my opinion, is seasonal. The good thing about the salt pier is that regardless of visibility (which is rarely if ever truly bad), once you’re under it and around the pylons, you’re good to go. Thanks for watching and your kind comment!

Would you consider doing a video on the urchins that hide in the crevices along the entry/exits? How much of a hazard are they? There are always a lot along this portion of the shore, especially on the north entry to the salt pier. I’ve made 6 trips to Bonaire and have never stepped on one, but I’m always very careful.

Could you do videos on good places to snorkel? Unfortunately, I can no longer scuba dive but can still snorkel the sites. Of at least, on dive sites that have stuff to see at shallower snorkeling depths give those a mention? I would greatly appreciate that!

You bet! I’ll add that to the list for 2025. In the interim, I know both Andrea 1 & 2, the Salt Pier, and Tolo are popular among snorkelers.

Need your own "walking stick" to help with Bonaire shore dive entries/exits? We recommend these amzn.to/4g4wlA2. The "walking stick" should ONLY be used to enter and exit the water at the shoreline. It should NEVER be used during your dive. The Amazon link is an affiliate link. If you follow the link and make a purchase, we may receive a small commission. The price is the same and it helps support our channel. Thanks so much!

Thanks for the great tips Kevin. I'm making my first visit to Bonaire in April. SO TRUE on the advice regaring flight connections through Miami. I choose to simply reserve a hotel room on my return trip in Miami....rather than to deal with the stress of getting through Customs, bag re-check and TSA. Those tight connections can quickly turn into a train wreck.

You do a great job promoting this lovely island the info about cruise days is very good as well. Don’t forget the connection time upon your return! AA just tried to book us 1:30 connection in Miami. Even with Global Entry, if your bags are last out, there is no way you’re going to clear customs, recheck bags, clear security (especially if there is no TSA Pre-Check lane), and make that connection. And I’m too old to be running through airports LOL.
@jodienamandafanАй бұрын
I've noticed the AA connection in Miami (coming from the northeast) time has shrunk to 45 min which is insane. They shouldn't even allow this as a valid connection!

Thank you for the video. I dove the Hilma Hooker some years ago. Although there are boats that go to this wreck, if you are a decent swimmer and it's a nice day, you can easily swim to it from shore as you showed in your video. There wasn't much growing on the wreck so I found the nearby reef much more interesting than the wreck. An American who had been living in Bonaire for decades told me that the boat was treated with something that discouraged marine growth. My dive partner and I, after diving the wreck, did a slow ascent examining the nearby reef while doing so (instead of doing a "formal" motionless decom stop). Fun!
