A few months ago, many people who loved my previous video: "Ancient Technology of Making Bamboo Crafts - Most Incredible Bamboo Woodworking Ever" asked me about: "Kishu Fishing Rods". So we decided to make a video about it.

I started to find out information about "Kishu Herazao" and was very impressed by its flexibility, durability, and lightweight, and especially it has a history of more than 200 years. After more than 2 days of exploration, I began to write the script, rewrote the content, a voice was recorded, new effects work, new music, new footage added and a new creation is created as follows: "Highly-Skilled Bamboo Master Craftsmen Specialized in Making The "Kishu Fishing Rods(Kishu Herazao)"
This time our main character is: Tatsukawa Hideki (辰川 英輝 )
Kishu-Herazao Master Craftsman(His Teacher): Jō Hideo (城 英雄)
To become a full-fledged artisan, he studies under his teacher, Hideo Jo. After 5 years of training, he left his teacher behind and went off on his own. After going off on his own, Mr. Tatsukawa’s teacher awarded him the name of Tenshuu, which will engrave into the rod. He is trying his best to make his masterpiece.
The bamboo worker named Tenshuu got his own bamboo workshop and should be done everything with bamboo work at home. The path to mastery is far and steep. However, Mr. Tatsukawa is steadily walking up that path, and one day he will surely make it.

I keep it neatly tucked into a regular backpack all the time with my fishing gear, and can grab it anytime, put it on my back and go anywhere. I just read in another review that the rod length below the reel is adjustable as well, so I will try that too for even more portability. Probably the best setup I've ever owned. I lost the cap for the eyelets, but no big deal since I still have the black cloth sheath that came for the pole and I use that. Very portable and high quality.

It’s fascinating how varied the culture of fishing is in Japan. There’s this very traditional carp fishing and now largemouth bass are just as popular to target as they are in the states. The thing that seems to stay the same across the board is is the art and attention to detail that goes into the gear. These gentlemen along with Yuki Ito of Megabass take a great deal of pride in their work.

Truly a work of art. It used to be when you bought something, it was for life, or you made it yourself. People took pride in their work. Now, we live in a disposable society; nothing is made to last because they want you to buy again and again and again. It's wonderful to watch these gentlemen work and create something beautiful and useful.

Remember when Shakespeare Ugly Stik came out? It was advertised essentially unbreakable! When advertised, they'd bend the tip to the butt, unbreakable. In the early 90's, I went to a Kmart, grabbed an Ugly Stik, went to test it, it broke slam in half. Understand I had original Ugly Stiks. But. I grabbed another, as a present for my uncle. Now, they're made in China. As Craftsman, they were American made, I'd go to Sears to buy them. Now, they're made in China. But still have the same warranty, so probably made to the same specs or better. Just like products can be obtained overseas but packaged in America, so states American. As in 70's, American cars went to junk. Even in 80's I recall fleets of Ford trucks bought. Once paint was broken, it'd rust. Toyota introduced their vehicles, better gas mileage and definitely more reliable and dependable, which if not for Toyota American cars might gotten worse. Look at Ford Pinto, a death trap. But Toyota shipped manufacturing to America and seems they can make a high quality product here the same as those from Japan. Buy a vehicle with an American name, but it or many of its components are made overseas. 😃 😊 😀 😄 😁, talk about a New World order, companies run the world now more than government it seems. 😳 As Dell got its' start here, made a high quality product, but then moved to .

I am so happy to see this video. I was lucky enough to have used one of these for an afternoon with a friend's grandfather back in the 80's. the touch is so sensitive, you can feel the fish nibbling on the bait. We went fishing for Bream (a type of Blue Gill). One of my best ever fishing memories. A most excellent pole.

My brothers and I used to fish for trout with bamboo rods when we were kids back in Pennsylvania. It was so much fun, and brought new challenges. Fishermen got a big kick out of us with our 10ft plus bamboo rods along the creeks. These japanese rods are on a whole different level of beautiful. Nicely done.

When I was in the Navy stationed in Yokosuka, Japan in '99 to '04, I bought a handcrafted lure about 5 inches long, cost me $300. Beautiful work, wish I had the guts to use it, it's on display with other lures I bought while there. Cheapest price I paid for one was $85, $300 was the most. I used my $85 lure and another that cost $160, until I almost lost 😖😱 it to a small 🦈, and that's when I decided🤔 that they'd all go on 😐 display!! Yeah, I really thought at the time that I wouldn't care if I lost one to a fish until I almost lost one, that's when reality kicked in. The time it took for the old man to make me these lures and the details of them, you couldn't tell them from a real one, that's how good he was. It still has a piece of shark tooth imbedded in it ❗He passed away 😔 in '13, they'll never touch the water again ☹️
