There is a store in amsterdam that sells fresh stroopwafels for 13,50 a piece 😂😂😂 Half the country was outraged, because that's just not right. And would most certainly NOT buy one. True, the freshly baked ones are more delicious than the ones packaged in the store, which are already good, but if you can buy 10 normal sized ones under 2 euro's, a fresh one twice as big should not cost over 2 euro's as well. Big fat bye bye if the price is as ridiculous as 13,50 ! They are robbing tourists with those prices. Get one from a markt (small farmers market) in another village... same thing. Amsterdam is not all that 🤷🏼‍♀️

One of the reasons we dutch like the discounts is because our economy has kind of created the need for them. If possible people rather shop in Germany, because the normal prices in the Netherlands are on average higher, so with a discount they become more reasonable. There are a lot of dutchies that don't have that much money, everything becomes more expensieve each year but the wages don't rise nearly as much.

I've also been told that I'm too direct with my opinion sometimes. If I see something from someone I know and I don't like it, I will call it out. But I also found it's certain types of people who can't cope with that and say I'm being mean. The situation that I'm thinking about was 2 guys learning to become drum majors. They posted videos of their progress of Facebook and after saying to them: You're doing good, but here's what you can still improve on. They both attacked me telling I'm always being negative about things they do. According to them I shouldn't point out things about something I didn't take lessons fo myself, but I have plenty of "experience" looking at other people doing what they do. To me that feels like almost the same thing as not being allowed to say a girl is pretty, just because I'm gay. Just because I'm not actively into the subject, doesn't mean I'm not allowed to share my opinion or even facts that I just happen to know.

The problem is that "The Dutch" as a uniform group of people don't exist. The Dutch society, which contains nearly 18 million people (2/3d of Australia!) is incredibly complex, with many different social, ethnical and religeous or non-religious groups, that all have their own ways of doing things. So except from a few general statements it is nearly impossible to say: "the Dutch" are like this or "the Dutch" are like that... The only few things that you could say about the Dutch that set us apart from the people from other nations are that in general we are very egalitarean and averse to authority for authority's sake. When you want to have Authority in the Netherlands you will have to prove yourself. Even as boss to your employees... And another national trait is "doe maar gewoon, dat is al gek genoeg" (act normal, that is crazy enough...) which basically means that Dutch people distrust people with inflated ego's or people who boast about themselves. O, and then there is the famous "directness", which I think is linked to the previous.

Unlike ALL Murican's eating pizza, hamburgers, taco's, and other drive-in healthy food in their car for "dinner" or all day long for that matter, hinge the seize of ALL healthy Muricans, we Dutch still eat proper homemade meals, dinner (at 6 O"clock!! another Dutch myth lol) everyday of the week, except sundee take-away. Daily homemade dinner we call "warm eten" e.g. "warm food". Go figure. Cheers Paul mate.

@ It's not like we complain more about the weather then other "species" (lol), it is just because we're all simple people, introverts by nature ("be normal..or doe maar normaal..") and feeling uncomfortable small talking to other people, so we start moaning, complaining (thinking others feel comfortable with this sort of negative conversation. Well, I'm flippin' not haha), in this case about the weather. This way you're not rude to other people by saying nothing at all. The Brits small talk about 22*C warm weather would go like this: "Nice weather isn't it?"(For Brits to them 22*C is like "bloody hot" lol) Same weather, but from Dutchy pov: "Pffff, Heet hé, ze voorspellen dat het VOLGENDE WEEK bloedheet wordt!" e.g.: "Pfffff, hot isn't it? They predict scorching heat NEXT WEEK!" (See what I did there?? So instead of enjoying the warm weather we're giving the other person a bad feeling (unintended), not just for one day, but for a whole flipp'n week!! Because, you know, you think it's hot today, well wait till next week!! haha. And guess what? Weather prediction was wrong, again. No heatwave, but rain. So they start complaining about the rain, because they were expecting warm weather and bought a new, expensive bikini..on clearance..with 60% discount. Some of The Dutch in "een notendop" in a nutshell. 😉😂😉 Cheers Paul🍻🍺🍻

Say what you mean and mean what you say, that's typically Dutch. Although here in the south people are more inclined to sugarcoat negative opinions. Good bread with good butter and good cheese is the best there is! And then sometimes we put some other good things on top like pickled and fresh vegetables and salads, all kinds of sausages, eggs and sliced meat. Personally I can eat hot meals all day. But maybe I'm a bit influenced being half Hungarian; give me lecsó with burgonyás kenyér 6 times a day and I'll be happy ... yes, Hungarians tend to eat 6 times a day. Peanut butter with hagelslag? I've never had that, seen or heard about it. I eat my peanut butter sandwich with sambal (or the stronger Hungarian variant Erõs Pista) or course sugar. If you end up or jump in a canal in Amsterdam, you can't get out; the canal walls are too high. Every year 10 to 20 (drunken) tourists drown in the canals in Amsterdam. The Dutch are not cheap, we're just carefull with our money. The Dutch are among the biggest donators to charities in the world. Love your video comments!

Typical Dutch supermarket promotion you've been waiting for for a long time (example): All UNOX brand soup varieties in a bag - get 3 pay for just 1. I went to that shop 3 times in a row and at the end of the day I had a stash at home of about 100 bags (serves 2) of soup in about 5 different varieties. That will last me until the next big promotion, maybe on horsehoe shaped hearty sausages. It's true. But then there are moments when you go and spend that saved money. Maybe go a bit overboard with hundreds of euros worth of fireworks and wine or seasonal beers, or go to the Efteling Theme park resort 6 days instead of just 1. ;-) You save to spend, we just do it alot more extreme than just about everyone else, I suppose. Oh, and while I may go ape for supermarkt promotions, I rarely pass what I think is a true beggar/"traveler" I may encounter on the street without giving something to him or her. Because everyone can one day find him- or herself in such a position, so do give something of what you just saved on stuff.

Of course it was true. In 1491 the farmers of "Kennemerland" (the region north of Haarlem) revolted. It was called the uprising of the cheese and breadfolk. And with all uprisings in history of the Netherlands, it started because of higher taxes.

I don't eat bread and cheese for lunch. Cheese has become way too expensive for that. Thank you Kaagflation! Also, being on time for an appointment? Not in the south of the country. Add 15 minutes at minimum for Brabant and Limburg basically exists in its own separate timezone.

@@fvefve12She was the minister of finance, inflation gets caused by the government printing money. Increasing the money supply is the literal definition of inflation. Ergo, Kaagflatie. But that is not her fault you say? It's the ECB doing that? She's one of the bosses of the ECB so that it makes it her fault still.

Yes, when I moved to Mexico I missed complaining about the weather. It's always sunny and there's no reason to complain about that. Being on time is a thing. It's very offending to think you've the right to waste somebody else's time. Moving to Mexico I had to adapt bit to the latin attitude. I started to give men 10 minutes and women 15 minutes of margin, but, on the other hand, I've never been late for an appointment.

About I got it in the sale. That is not quite so, because it was first, let say 50 Euro. And then they put up the price with 40 percent, and then they sell it for 50 Euro in the sale. Ha ha I got it in the sale. Think about that. Roelof from the Netherlands.

Directness: I think it will depend on the culture if its perceived as rude or not. But its not meant to offend people. And I think if you can POLITELY set your bound*ries and express your needs to others...thats healthy.
