Buy a 2004/5/6 Lexus 430LS and trust my word You will own probably the best car ever built. Hi Matt. Great video. Some comments about the Jaaaag. I had a 2010 XF so pre-facelift. Had it from 60k-120k 1. Facelift looks better. 2. Heavy car goes through tyres, brakes, suspension and wheel control parts, so budget for frequent replacements. 3.Looks great on 20inch rims but makes ride quality poor 4. Door lock actuators fail. Fairly cheap to fix but frustrating. 5. Sponge covering of the electric window action perishes and you get a really annoying rattle in the front doors. 6. Will need a new battery and will need to be coded to your car so you can't buy one and replace yourself 6. Over 80k it Will probably need an alternator, if you can time replacing this and getting timing belt done at same time it'll save you money but expect £600 for alternator and £1000 for belt kit 7. If you are test driving a higher miles 3LDV6, roll the window down and listen carefully when accelerating. A tell-tall 'whoosh' or actually a 'shhhhhhhsh' is not the turbo but a split in the inlet manifold and can be terminal. 8.Coolant system can develop a leak and by the time you see the steam and the light comes on it's probably too late. 9. DPF -sigh- once you're getting frequent regen messages it needs a proper flush as well as a regen, but it might well be nearly time for a 'dpf solution' or new 'dpf'. 10. The pop up gear selector is cool, but the silver ones in bright sun, reflect light directly up in to your peripheral vision. Most will have teh 'growler' sticker on them, don't take it off !!

Had a first of the facelift 2012 car, 3.0s portfolio diesel, bought the car with 16k on the clock and just had it written off with 110k on the clock, only issues were tyres which it ate through, and a parking sensor wiring fault. My brother bought a Lexus GS 300 SEL brand new in 2005 & he’s still got it! It’s in lovely condition, got sub 100000 miles, garaged all it’s life, has full Lexus history & gives him next to no trouble. Recently he spent a couple of grand getting the paint work tidied up, wheels refurbed with a new set of decent tyres. It’s not my cup of tea but definitely still looks the part but he does have to run it on super unleaded because it’s not E10 compatible apparently.

@@lukajozia6782 Many new cars these days deliberately over priced to begin with when new. This devious way was devised so that if the car was originally costing £40,000 and over when new and then within a few months or sat one year approx if pre reg the price can drop a lot say up to around 40% approx. This entices a second hand buyer but then in the UK you have to pay the full revised vehicle road tax circa £550 pa. And not the cheaper road tax for a car that cost less than £40k new. There is really no contest in my opinion. The Volvo S80 is one of the most comfortable, safest and reliable car on the road. Don't buy one later than 2006 though for reliability - as when Ford took over they scrimped on quality. Expect a 2005/6 diesel model to run mostly maintenance free for 250, 000 miles or so. Don't worry about "high mileage" as long as they have had reasonable care/service. I bought my last S80 with just 36,000 on the clock about 4 years ago for £3,500. It's still only done 60,000 miles and is just nicely "run in" My last S80 did 60 miles to the gallon (even in Wales). The current one did about 48 mpg on a 2,000 mile trip going to Milan and back from the North of England via the Alps. I have owned S80's for 18 years so far and NEVER had to spend anything on repairs during that entire period. The seats are super comfortable, they age well and still look "up to date" One of the best cars for sure!

Nicely informative. I was surprised you glossed over the Honda Legend - I had a peer at a 57 plate recently: V6, AWD and definitely in the luxury bracket, also ULEZ compliant but the road tax is £630. I struggle to understand this. The BMW E39 540i (of which you should have had a look at a low mileage example!) isn't ULEZ compliant but tax is around £295. The Jaguar XF has shockingly poor rear visibility so, of the cars I have, if I were swapping my 540i I would plump for the Legend, despite the road tax - although I would miss the V8. As an aside, I do think cheap barges are the way to go until we know whether we are condemned to drive soulless e-vehicles or, indeed, allowed to own our own cars at all ...

I found it so difficult to find something to replace my E39 540i. They are such a perfect car that do everything brilliantly. Kept mine for 16 years and while other cars came and went I couldn't part with the 540. Sold it to a collector in the end though because I knew he'd look after it and keep it on the road. I also considered a Legend but parts availability is a challenge. These days I'm in an Infiniti M37S which is fantastic, but I still miss the 540 with its big solid V8 feel... So out of the cars in this video I'd have the Lexus GS430.

Citroen C6 just because it is so different from anything else. I have had a Phaeton, facelift model, an enigmatic car, so beautifully engineered, just look at the boot hinges, amazing build quality, armchair like comfort from all of the seats, rode smoothly but was so anonymous. Everyone assumed it was a Passat, not a bad thing in my opinion but a significant reason why it didn’t sell in large numbers.

For 3k, its amazing how much 'luxury' one can get. Smooth v6, comfortable ride and pleasant interior.

Hey Demba, this sounds like you just described my previous CLK I part exchanged with a dealer near Stansted Airport when I bought a CLS350 from him. If it is a dark blue with a plate starting with LB, it must be the one. I pampered it while it was in my possession, gave it everything it needed, took it to a Mercedes specialist in Hampshire for a complete health-check and fix everything that needed attention, put new tyres very recently. It routinely returned 38 mpg on a long drive. You got yourself a real peach there. Why did I let it go? I really missed a CLS500 I had a few years ago and wanted to return to these Mark-One CLSes with the 350CGI engine which is the most economical petrol engine in them. With a limited space in my garage I sadly had to sell it. I hate the current over-complicated cars with too much electronics and plethora of screens that distract drivers and have rubbish ergonomics, including the most recent Mercs. Mercedes from the mid-to-late noughties are the best.

You definitely missed a trick here. Last generation SAAB 9-5. I bought my 2011 Saab 9-5 aero ttid xwd for under 5k, that was a bit lucky and it needed a bit of tlc. vector models are definitely less than 5. As roomy as a S class but lower maintenance. I’ve had a facelift XFs for the last 8 years, best car I’ve ever owned!!! Just had it written off with 110k on the clock, bought it with 16k on it. Never broke down, no issues with DPF etc, service them and drive them at motorway speeds regularly and they will thank you for it! Beware though, they do eat through tyres and brakes, which on a heavy car are essential and costly, I found Pirelli or Michelin to be worth the money over budgets! Had it serviced at a specialist every year without fail and it was hassle free motoring, fairly quick, very quick for a diesel, extremely comfortable and 45mpg+. Drive one, you will not be disappointed, much nicer drive than typical BMW or Audi if you like comfort but still nice on a spirited drive.

Some really nice cars there. I'm quite into that C6.
