I bought my 2016, XE 2.0d AWD R Sport 30 months ago and love it as much now as the day I bought it. I use it daily for work and every time I get in it I still get the same joyful feeling. It is the only car that I have ever owned where random strangers have come up to me in car parks etc and tell me how lovely it looks or ask me questions about it. There is plenty of power and top end speed for the UK roads and I find it very comfortable. I keep records of everything I ever spent on it including fuel and to date I am averaging 48 mpg but give it some welly and that can rapidly drop. All my life I have wanted a Jaguar but have had to make do with practical, economic family cars but eventually I got my old man badge, mortgage paid and kids out and could actually buy something for me. I really wanted a sports car but as I can only afford one car had to compromise and decided to go for the XE because it is sporty but still has at least some practicality. In truth it is probably not very good at sport or practical but it drives brilliantly and just every now and then you find yourself on one of those brilliant, winding, undulating roads that are not full of pot holes and there is little or no traffic. Then you can switch to Dynamic mode and it really is the most fun with as much power, speed and incredible road holding a non professional driver could ever need. I have never had a Mercedes, BMW etc so cannot compare but for me I dont know how any other car would be better than my XE.

How’s maintenance?
@seamusgrebbell9431
@seamusgrebbell9431 4 жыл бұрын
@@cliffbangr Since I had it, I have only had servicing costs. One normal service cost £300.00 and one major a tad under £500.00. I had to buy new front tyres at 28000 miles and new rears 5 months later at 33000 miles. Tyres were Pirelli P7's and cost around £128.00 each fitted. It had to go in 4 times for some warranty work, mainly vibrations and rattles and a replacement headlight washer unit. I had a white blemish appear under the laquer on one of my wheels. All warranty was work done by Guy Salmon dealership I bought it from with no fuss or quibble. I guess my brakes will want doing soon but at the moment they look and work fine. I am slightly worried about the electronics only because every now and then, maybe 3 or 4 times in the 2.5 years I have had it, all my personalised settings just disappear with no reason. It only takes a minute to put them back but not knowing why it does this makes me wonder if there is something waiting to burst out when my warranty finishes next March ? I never go over 2000 rpm until it is properly warmed up and always drive in eco mode unless I get some clear road or opportunity to put my foot down a bit. Otherwise, I top up the adblue and screen wash myself, have never put any oil, brake fluid or other stuff in it and have probably spent more on car cleaning kit than maintenance lmao. Hope this helps.

@@HighPeakAutos I think the two best car designers of the last 10-15 years were Ed Welburn at GM and Ian Callum at Jaguar. Both men had great taste, and the designs their shops turned out have been beautifully sculpted. They also both did something that's incredibly difficult to pull off: They successfully updated their brands' design language.

I quite like the rear end from the side profile. Does make it feel a bit more like a RWD sports car like a BMW Z3, loads out front. The XF model that came out just after the XE feels very similar inside to me. Agree on the fact they drive nicer than a 3 series. Does have “that Jag feel”. You said it’s not perfect and that’s true, I don’t think any car is but with a British built car that’s part of its character for me.

I have an XE and agree with your analysis. Had a Mercedes C350 previously, which felt like it was built from granite. But even with winter tyres, it was shocking in the snow. The XE feels like its made from polystyrene in comparison. But its the 4wd 240bhp diesel, is quick, unstoppable in snow and returns over 50mpg on the motorway. Which you couldn't say that about many cars. Also, thoroughly agree with your Nurburgring comment, comfort is more important than a lap time.

I’m tired of seeing reviews for luxury cars that focus so much time on 0-60, handling and road feel. A luxury car is supposed to be soft, comfortable and isolating. If I want a fast car that takes corners well, I’ll buy a sports car. This and the Genesis are the last of a dying breed. Everyone else makes a luxury car for 16 year olds. I have a bad back and the most comfortable new car I ever owned was a Chrysler 300C. My BMW 745i wasn’t even close to being as comfortable.

I have a 2017 XE diesel. It is nearly 3 years now with an annual mileage of 20k km. Reliability is excellent except for the mountings. I have changed out 3 sets to date within warranty. I believe this is an issue affecting diesel XE owners worldwide. It is either the quality of mountings used, or excessive vibrations from the 4 cylinder diesel ingenium engine that JLR needs to address, which they have not.

I'm on my second Jag now. Started with a 2012 3.0d V6 and changed a couple of months ago to a 2018 2.0d R-Sport 180 - the XF version of what you were driving. Both Jags have been outstanding cars and I speak from experience. Over the years I have owned several quality cars including 3 and 5 series BMWs, Volvos, Audi A4 and A6, my other half still drives my old Merc E320. All of them were good cars (except the Audi A6 which went through a series of catastrophic failures). Each car had something I loved but each had it's problems too. To say Jaguar's are less reliable or that their build quality is inferior to any of them is simply not true.the Jags are not perfect by any means but they are an 'all round' better choice and a WAY superior drive. Don't look at a badge and assume it must be good, drive it then decide. Before anyone asks - No I do not work for nor do i have any affiliation to JLR.

I got a cracking deal on a new 2019 XE and bought it on the spot Four weeks on and I find the 180bhp Diesel engine punchy and the auto box is good and easy to live with and sure footed being AWD. But.... the interior space is a little cramped and the centre seat uncomfortable on the legs. Access is or seems to be awkward with passengers banging there heads while getting in/out, the rear vision is terrible but there is a rear view camera for reversing. I think the Mini Cooper has a bigger boot and must be the smallest in its class swallowing one large suitcase only the second going on the back seat. What happens if you have four passengers and two large cases?? With hindsight I shouldn’t have bought a Skoda superb for practically but Jaguar does so much well I bought it in a heart beat

Enjoyed the review and love the honesty. You have a real way with words. I've driven several XEs and they are a great drive especially on country roads. Good mix of comfort and handling. I didn't like the manual it wasn't a very sporty gearbox but the autos were grand. Ultimately I went with an XF because of the increased interior space, grander interior (leather dash) and smoother drive with 3 litre v6 diesel instead of 2 litre 4 pot. However, I agree with your later comment that the XE is a vastly underrated car. Can't think why there aren't more on the roads.

I’ve always fancied a recent 3 series, but when I recently got a lift in one, I couldn’t believe how loud the road noise was for such a modern car. I can live with a firmish ride, but the din was disappointing. I have an old 2007 Accord and it’s much more hushed, yet handles well. I’ve always fancied an XF, but this size suits me, fine. I had two company bmws that caused me a lot of back pain on long journeys. I replaced them with a Ford focus titanium. It lacked acceleration, but I could drive it all day without getting back ache.

Another very nice review once again. I test drove the 30t R-Sport recently, and I have to agree that it's effortless, smooth and comfortable. But I also agree that the interior quality in general could be more consistent and that the rear headlights could look better. While I haven't driven the W205 C-Class or the F30 or G20 3 Series, I have driven the Alfa Romeo Giulia (2.2L Diesel) and the Lexus IS350. I found that the steering on Giulia is lighter and faster but feel rushed and lacked feedback compared to the XE, although I think the Giulia has more spacious interior and boot, and is the best looking in class (although this is a subjective matter). I also think that the XE has better steering, much faster transmission, better infotainment system and feel far more effortless and faster to drive compared to the heavy IS350, which you have to rev hard to really push. While the Lexus is the most old fashioned of the three, I felt that the interior quality was superior to the other two and the most comfortable to drive. I have driven the previous generation Audi A4 2L Petrol, and I found it boring despite it being the best all-rounder in my opinion. I would assume that the current generation is just a better all-rounder than the B8 rather than becoming a more exciting car. If I have to pick one, I would take the Lexus IS350 because I enjoy driving it, find it very comfortable and also due to Lexus' reputation with reliability and servicing despite being behind in some areas. I also really liked the LCD display from the Lexus LFA in the IS350 F-Sport that I drove. I guess I am a big fan of (higher-performance) Lexus as you say with Jaguar and Land Rovers. But if it's just the base models, I would probably pick the XE ahead of the IS200t/300 and the other competitors.

I think the 2019 facelift delivers everything you list as a criticism so just maybe it is finally the Jag people want and will buy. I’m currently in a 2018 340i but it just feels a bit 1980 inside, whereas the Jag looks modern. The seats have always been like sitting on a wooden bench in the beemer so good to hear the Jag excels where the bmw has always been a big failure! Another great review - more!

I'm planning to get a XE aswell, currently I'm driving a Suzuki Jimny cause I always wanted to get an Off Roader as my first car. But now I need something more smooth to drive, affordable and with more space for my own little family later. I love the looks of the XE and I quiet prefer the rear end of the XE more then the XF 4:07 I watched up some pictures of the 2016 and later models of the XF, and I have to say it looks a bit wider then the XE which i quiet like, but I dont like chrome that flows intot he rear lights AT ALL so I have to stick with the XE, also the price of a normal fuel XE here in Germany are quiet affordable with around 16.000 - 25.000€ for a car with between 30.000 - 70.000 kilometers. So I hope I will find a good one within the next year. :D

I had a test drive in a R Sport 200PS back in about 2015 and decided to get the 250PS on retirement ( I worked in ME so no point pulling trigger beforehand). Got the R Sport 300PS in 2018, 18 way seats and active dynamics. Love it. I don't need a diesel as I don't do high milage (and even less with the Covids). I keep the suspension and steering in comfort and only use the dynamic engine setting to overtake in a hurry. In normal mode it is fine. A good choice. On B roads it is like driving on rails. I can recommend it.

I think the only problem, and perhaps a trap, for the people tempted to buy these used luxury cars, is the fact that they think they are getting a great deal, and they forget that while it may be an old and used car that's cheap to buy -- *the service and repairs will still cost as if that car was brand new*

Review after review of the XE complain about cheap plastic in the interior. I have the '17 XE-R Sport Diesel and I think my car's interior plastics are alright. Could it be that Jaguar improved them? Who knows. The only thing I wish I should've ordered also is the tinted windows, I totally forgot about it when I was adding the packs I wanted. What I do know is that this is by far the best car I've had for highway. The way it hugs the turns is awesome. I did the "no one ahead of me" thing when the green light comes up in the traffic lights long time ago and now I'm at that stage where that is not important to me anymore so I'm OK with my XE not being fast on the 0 to 100km/h (I guess that was the main reason I didn't get the S) but once on the highway it responds quite sharp to the shifts when in Dynamic+Sport. It's a beauty to drive in winding roads.

I badly wanted one of these after driving a MK 2 XF at a Jaguar event. went to look at a preowned one. The idling was rough, gearbox changes out of synch with the engine characteristics unless you use the paddle shifters. Steering well weighted but not as eager as an XF mk2. It just did not come together. 30 min later, drove my mates F30 328i, it all comes together and operates seamlessly. I badly wanted to buy British but it’s too much of a compromise. Maybe it was a bad one.

I'm not sure what to make of this review. I agree with you on your Range Rover posts - and I am a big RR fan - but you're unusually grumpy here. My partner has an XE - 2 litre petrol - and, when I borrow it, and come off the M40 at Beaconsfield (as mentioned in the vid) and head to Amersham (where we live) I avoid the straight A355 and go through Penn on the back roads...simply because the XE is such a nice car to chuck about. Yes, the interior is a bit lacking BUT it is a lovely car to drive.

I bought a 2017 XE 35t Premium because it had all I wanted - that excellent chassis, godlike suspension and the sweet 340hp supercharged V6. Didn’t bother about leather seats, heated seats or other nonsensical stuff. The build quality isn’t the best so in my opinion it’s not worth it to go to the highest trim level in a Jag. This is still the best driving car in this segment. It’s been 4 years and I haven’t had any issues so it’s also been reliable.

Coming from multiple XJ's and loving jags in general I really really wanted to like the XE - I agree with your points on the whole, I thought the steering was superb however I just found the visibility to be shocking - you can't see anything out the back, the door cards are also very high and the pillars wide, for a small car they are horrid to park which really put me off. Compare that to an X308 which is bigger but feels smaller some how. For the price I would just add a couple of grand and jump right into an XF. Great video and I'm happy to have subscribed.

Also I'm picky about noise. Seems like a lot of manufacturers don't try to quiet the cars. I don't like noisy interiors. If I remember correctly Jag put on some device in the latest XJ to pump engine noise into the interior. Me no like.

All makes offer "packs" or extra cost options. Power fold mirrors on the XE is £250 extra. I have now settled on a used XE Rsport 2.0 petrol which has heated front screen, reverse camera, power folding mirrors & blind spot warning. Ingeniums *can* be reliable, but only if you disregard the Jag service schedule. They need new oil and filter at every 10k miles minimum (Jag says 21k which is crazy) and further to that you should do a DPF filter clean every 12 months. And change the cam belt every 80k rather than the 110k miles that Jag suggests. With those points followed I’ve seen Ingenium Jags with 200k miles on the clock with the original engine.
