@Syst3M D3Cod3s A timing belt is designed to be replaced multiple times as part of a cars ongoing, regular maintenance. A timing chain is not. The fact that the job was done by a 'specialist' (guessing as it's a JLR specific engine, not a Ford one as someone intimated in another comment, that it was a Jaguar specialist) is also going to put the price up.
@stuco81
@stuco81 Жыл бұрын
@Syst3M D3Cod3s it's not a ford engine though is it... . As stated multiple times in the video and written on the top engine to help you out, it's an Ingenium. Which is a JLR developed engine and nothing to do with the Ford/PSA engines used previously.

Recycling cars such as this makes such good sense. It saves natural resources, reduces carbon footprint, makes the recycler some profit, and employs people to do the work. And the profit can be used to recycle another vehicle. It really is an all round win! More power to you Matt, great content as ever as a further bonus.

I agree, 10-15 year old cars aren't scrap as they were years ago. With the cost of everything being high it would make more sense to recondition older vehicles rather a constant supply of new leased vehicles. Guess it's become to normal to use and discard cars. That Jag messed with my OCD, never understood why someone buys a nice car and doesn't look after it.

As an owner of a 2015 Jaguar XE I found that particularly interesting! Great car so far but the engine does sound like a tractor on start up. Jaguar with that mileage would be worth very much here in Finland. People prefer manuals and diesels. Obivously yes the damage is bad, but not counting that. I had a 2015 same model and loved the car but spending time on an XE forum, was shall we say, enlightening. The timing chain is a known troublesome feature and is mounted at the rear of the engine and hence the expense to change it. That body work repair was the deal of the century! As a driving car they are very good indeed and do not disappoint. Very chuckable and extremely comfortable.

Never been a diesel fan so would never buy this XE but 2 years ago I bought the 3.0S. Man, what a car !!. 335 bhp Supercharged V6 , 4.9 seconds to 60 and nearly 40 mpg on a steady motorway run. Mine is an ex dealer demonstrator so has the full options list thrown at it. It is faster, more refined and handles better than my son’s E46 M3 and is more economical and faster than my old x308 XJR ( which I do miss for the v8 burble) . This S is a rare sight on our local roads (North East Scotland) and is generally a bit ‘under the radar’ especially as it’s unfortunately not made anymore. Very rarely see another one on the road. Car hasn’t missed a beat in the 2 years I’ve owned it and is a hoot to drive every day. Would have another one in a heartbeat !

Excellent video as usual Matt 👍. Last October when I bought my C class the Jaguar XE was also on my shortlist. But being a newer model than the XF, the only ones within my budget were very high mileage. Given the cost of repair for the timing chain I think I made a good choice with the Merc especially as it had only covered 50k miles. Except for the fact that my W204 I isn't ulez compliant and will be worthless in five years 😢. Oh well 😒

A very good point you made about cars being turned over more frequently. They might then have a better chance of regular maintenance and refurbishment work being carried out. Rather than, as per this example, with one or two less than careful longer term ownerships. We love our XE (180 auto awd). It looks stunning in R-sport trim, and returns 50+mpg without sacrificing driving enjoyment! My partner suffers with MS, and it's one of the very few cars in which she can travel long distances free of vibration induced pain.

@@supersploon4177 but that’s the point Jag, BMW, Merc etc all build up the price with extra cost ‘packages’ but in my case with the Kia all the ‘extras’ are standard equipment; no-one likes being taken for a ride, especially these days.

Your mention of spilt milk brought back memories of an old Ford Anglia that had Milk spilt in it. It was almost ready for the junk yard but every time you put your head inside it, your head had to be withdrawn very quickly because of the vile smell. So I can see you taking the whole inside of the vehicle out and clean everything thoroughly.

Wow! Amazing and fascinating how you have transformed that car! That ripped bodywork must have beem filled in with filler! It looks brilliant, and who ever buys that car is going to be a proud owner. I would be.

I was looking forward to this, when I first saw it in my new videos list! At the end of the much enjoyed video, I had a potential brain wave 😳 on another channel, I sometimes see a breakers yard, with seemingly light damaged, quite young cars. I wonder what this would have been worth in parts. However, it is nice to see that you’ve saved it, and I hope you get full asking price, and/or a decent part exchange you can make money on as well 😀

hahaha, my company is 2319detailing, i love these Jags and have 4 regular customers. I thought when you opened the boot...they had done the normal of "the car goes next week, lets do the tip run and someone else can clean it" BUT NOPE heartbreaking to see what was a nice car treated so badly. Great video as always! cheers Paul

Great video Matt your bodywork team are so good and very good prices. Timing chains are a problem with some engines. I would suggest it's due to oil change intervals plus the can't be bothered owner. There was an audi 3.0 litre v6 diesel with 30,000 miles same issue. Timing chain tensioner faulty engine out chain at back of engine. Great design work folks why put chain at back.!!

I wonder if the previous owner knew it needed a drive chain and hence selling it. You did well to make a good profit Great vid, just don’t where you find the time to make them week on week but keep it up as like many others look forward to them

The XE is a good looking car even in the rough. After your cash, and others trade skills, this car is now beautiful. I know you don't like diesels but that is subjective. This car will provide amazing fuel economy, if looked after, and will provide real fuel savings for the new owner. That is so important in our current economic state. Brilliant video Matt and hope you make a decent profit.

As a business man (you tube drama aside) there is no way you didn't ask the selling dealer to send a picture of the damaged side😉 And I see they like the country side so much,they carry half of it around in the car with them.
