I bought my 15 plate SEAT Mii 5 years ago, for commuting to work, and it has never let me down. It's roomy, easily accommodating 4 adults, and has decent boot space for such a small car. It drives like a class above, and the 74bhp engine in mine is ample for motorway cruising. I like the fact that it aint full of gizmos, but has just what is needed. Add the cheap tax, 60 mpg, and relatively cheap insurance and there's little to fault it, except the radio is notorious for poor reception, even with an improved aerial, so I bought a DAB converter to cure it.

Clutch noise at idle is normal on the VW up/citigo/Mii trio, nothing to do with sound proofing, it's because the flywheel is solid and not dual mass, if you push down the clutch when it's rattling the noise will stop, also stops when it's warmed up. Cool cars.
@ferrumignis7 ай бұрын
The noise is called gear rollover, it's due to the combination of 1) The 3 cylinder engine naturally having more crankshaft speed variation on each rotation (aka torsional vibration) than engines with 4 or more cylinders. 2) No dual mass flywheel to reduce the torsional vibration. 3) Low viscosity gearbox oil to reduce drag and improve fuel economy/emissions. The crank speed variation causes the gears to chatter as the backlash between them is constantly taken up and then opened, and the low viscosity oil doesn't damp this out very well. It's absolutely normal on these cars as your mate says.

I have a Skoda Kamiq with the 110 bhp version of the same engine. It also is an easy motorway cruiser, despite being only a 1.0 litre. It will still accelerate in 6th to 80 and beyond fairly readily. But drive it more conservatively, and 50 mg is quite do-able in everyday driving. Having owned a Focus Ecoboost 1.0 litre for 4 years, I rate this 3 cylinder 1.0 litre as being both smoother and quieter than the Ecoboost. Plus I never saw more than 45 mpg from the Ford.

Car Vertical say its a 4 cylinder engine, nope, its a 3 cylinder. Rust around the fuel filler was a known issue on early versions, due to it being a rust trap, similar to early KAs. Yep, the gearboxes are a bit agricultural in terms of noise levels. The tech bulletin said it was purely a comfort issue and nothing to be concerned about. Basically a good little car that's well screwed together. Wouldn't bother with the 74bhp version, the only advantage with this unit is it revs freer above 4000rpm, up to that point the torque curve is the same as the lower powered version.🙂

Love cars, bought my first at 16 and have owned about 25 since kept my last car a 1.7 Puma for 21 years. However, cars are a social and engineering phenomenon, and after driving for 50 years I accept that driving needs to change, regulations, emissions, C02 and other planet-saving things are overtaking the motoring world. Like no one with any sense smokes nowadays, driving has to be more socially aware. One person driving a huge 2.5-3 tonne giant SUV is just not sustainable and is unnecessary. I have a Porsche Boxster S, it is great driving on the open road, but in towns and cities with loads of limits, cameras and such I can get about just as quickly and easily in my Kia. So pragmatism, in my view is the future, realistic sized cars, emitting less and driving, overall slower and more carefully is the future in my book. Thanks for asking @@livc444111

Rarely gets under 50 MPG and with only 75hp it's a lot of fun to wring it out without going too quickly. The gearbox noise bothered me at first but I l've learnt to ignore it. Only real problem was the rear brakes would stick on after parking up for a while in cold or wet weather - usually solved by giving the drums a good whack. Different garages argued about the timing belt replacement interval - Skoda recommended a change every 5 years but the original lasted 11 years in mine. VW always denied it needed doing. Not the most refined city car, but a good ride for such a short wheelbase, and it can genuinely just about fit 4 people.

I think as a city car they look fantastic! Doesn’t pretend to be something it’s not. I know 3 people that currently have a Citigo/Up! and they all love them. Nice to see you making the occasional profit too….just don’t make too much of a habit of it 😉

We have a Citigo 3 door. Bright blue, black alloys as a “spare” car. Brilliant little thing. Use it to go into town, to teach my daughter to drive and as a general runaround. Almost free to run as cars go.

There is a central air vent, it's on top of the dash in front of the SatNav. 😉

Very solid car, had from new in 2015 a Mii Sport 75bhp 3 door. Felt like a class above, and since the Ibiza at the time used the same Garmin touch screen and engine, it really felt like one! Only letdown was the Seat Sound upgrade, The Sub would rarely kick out any base and I was convinced it was set up incorrectly at the factory, but nobody knew how to check this.

Perfect run around & plenty space in them. Best of selling it on.

Excellent little cars these. Had an Up and a Citigo, never let me down. Pretty much any car most people will ever need

Completely agree with those me-too window flashes - so tacky and set warning bells off immediately (a juvenile post-learner, first car whose thrashed the engine and gearbox?).

Great little cars. Prone to the rear brakes and handbrake sticking, that's why this one has had new drums shoes and slave cylinders

Definitely a Car Coat Damp hands special this one. Take the 74bhp Citigo variant for the win though as that three banger fairly rips up the black top. With an easy on the eye aesthetic and all the accoutrements falling easily to hand. The hide bound interior takes the main prize. On my test drive I lifted off on the crest, felt the back drift and with a dab of opposite lock I was away. A kestrel under £5K and the cliche police left nowhere. Minty.
