They truly nailed that interior. The 3008 is a 6+ year old model now, and it still looks fresh and cool. Look at Peugeot's current line-up of models, and compare it to 10 years ago. Crazy how far they've come.

Even the 1st gen 3008 had a cool interior, with that wrap around cockpit and some great features (including, as Matt said a few times, that split folding tailgate!), even if the exterior styling missed the mark and dated quickly. I had one as a rental for a week and loved it, even though it had the horrible EGC "auto" (but really an electronically controlled manual) gearbox. I got used to that 'box after a day or two, but it would have put me off buying one. So glad they dropped that EGC for the EAT6 and then the EAT8 (both made by Aisin, both very good). I very nearly bought a 2nd gen 3008 last year and I doubt I'd have regretted it if I had - they're just very good cars overall and they have the kind of interior and exterior styling that is, in my opinion, pretty much unmatched in this price bracket.

A quick tip; avoid the 1.2 puretech at all costs. The timing belt runs through oil which accelerates wear. This can clog the oil filter and leave you stranded, also possibly with no brakes if you're unlucky. This can happen on cars with as low as 20k miles.

That’s the same main fault as the early 1.0 Ford Ecoboom engine wasn’t it? I’m surprised they didn’t learn from that as the ecoboost engine came long before this!
@khalidacosta7133
@khalidacosta7133 Жыл бұрын
Issue was largely fixed and there are a lot of engines that use wet belts now, I wouldn't hesitate buying one now, a bit more involving to replace than a traditional dry belt but nowhere near as bad as an Ford ecoboost.. The one you need to really avoid is the VAG 2.0 TDi, some of those have a rubber oil pump belt, no service intervals, at some point it will either break or clog up the oil filter, you can't check it, it doesn't get replaced and if you wanted to do it, be prepared for a very large bill as it's a nightmare to do.

I have a 2018 1.5HDI GT-Line with 46k on the clock which I am about to sell due to a company car coming. I’ve owned it since mid 2021, so 2 years and although it’s a lovely car in terms of looks and interior, it’s had quite a few issues that I don’t think should be present on a car with less than 50k. Mostly electrical issues with the radio not working sometimes, car going into neutral whilst driving at lower speeds even though it’s an auto box. I had an oil leak right at the back of the engine which was costly to repair because of where it was. I came from VW’s and Honda’s beforehand and doubt i’ll ever own another Peugeot. You live and learn though, it’s a lovely car when it’s working fine.

These like to go through Top Mounts on the front suspension for some reason. Also, the puretech engines are terrible. But the Diesels tend to suffer from blocked DPF filters. Might be how they are driven. These are also expensive, especially second hand, some of these have fetched just north of 20k. That is Evoque territory.

From about 2014 on Peugeot have really come good after a lean period of about 14yrs. I have a 2017 308 GT Line SW and it's been totally reliable, comfortable and good build quality, certainly better than the last BMW 3 series I owned. I think the diesel's are still a good buy 2nd hand and Peugeot have for along time built the best diesel engines. Mine's got the 150bhp diesel and the torque for overtaking is brilliant. I like the little steering wheel but the instruments took a bit of getting used too but after 2yrs driving anything else it driving a HGV!!!

The Grip Control is an optional extra, had it on my first 3008 (the first one out of my local dealers show room), a 150 manual GT Line 2ltr HDI, and it is really good, you need the right tyres on there, so replacing the ones on there with summer tyres really would be shooting yourself in the foot. Sold that 3008 for a GT 180 HDI 3008, lovely car, fully loaded and saved quite a lot from the dealer on it 😊 No grip control on this one but it had pretty much everything else, including the auto box. Sold that and ended up with a hybrid4, lovely car, only had it 10 months, small fuel tank didn't help with the odd long run and the battery range wasn't great in real world driving, it didn't suit my driving but would be great for someone doing more town or shorter distance motorway driving.

The first Peugeot that I ever drove was back in the sixties, a 204 with a column gear change. This was far superior to the similar gear change offered in various Austin/Morris cars and vans. The strangest gear shift was in the NSU RO80, a pressure sensitive micro switch in the gear knob disconnected the drive to let you change gear, but that rotary engine was so unbelievably smooth.

6:27 not being picky, but assuming the same Peugeot had twice larger fuel tank, it would not make it anymore less economical overall. It would just add extra ability to cover longer distance on 1 tank of fuel. Likewise, 50% smaller fuel tank would only make cheaper to fill up at the pump, but lots more more pain to live with.

Well check out Matt with the fancy CGI effects at the beginning! You really sneaked that in, would be great to know how many people actually noticed your little effect, you can clearly see that you're getting the hang of this editing lark! 😂😂😂😂 I agree with you about the design of the newer French cars, Peugeot and Renault have some very nice looking cars.

Only if it's been Car Horizontal checked ✅. It's very important to do a Car Horizontal check✅ checked in 72 countries MOT stations. One serious question I have about Car Horizontal check ✅ Does it tell you if the car has 4 factory original car mats? And the condition? Thanks.

Having had both, that split tailgate was rubbish. So much better with the flat loading option IMO, especially if you have a dog! Each to their own though!

I agree with you on the manuals on Peugeot and high clutches, I can remember test driving a year old 2008 with 6,000 miles. I thought the clutch was on its way out. I asked the salesman about about it and said all Peugeots are the same.

I’m surprised at your comments about avoiding the 1.2, I’ve heard nothing but good things about that engine, they also put it in the bigger 5008. My company car is a 1 litre turbo Octavia, and have driven a colleagues Karoq with the same engine and that copes fine with the size of car, would imagine Peugeots version would be the same. I’m interested to see what the rumoured e3008 is like that is allegedly coming later this year…

You need to avoid that engine 1.2 they don’t hold much. Plenty of used cars with 1.2 but no one buying, i bought 1,6 diesel gt 3008

I have had my 1.2 petrol now for 4 years. Car has been faultless apart from a worn seat bolster that was changed FOC despite the car being out of warranty. As for the 130bhp engine. This is the same output as a 2 litre car I once owned

You hit the nail on the head. I’m not interested in how a car feels when it’s been thrashed round the Nurburgring. That’s why I like your reviews. I’m interested in how a car drives for everyday use and that’s exactly what you do and it’s impartial. Keep it up

I am a huge fan of you, but always had to keep a bit quiet as I drive a 2020 5008, having had a Grand Picasso before, so was nervous watching this given your past opinions on French cars ... The interior is stunning, especially at night. I agree about the tailgate being not as good - you can also get rid of the rev counter by changing the mode of the display, you even get a Saab-style night mode (I used to have a 9-3). You do get used to the steering wheel. The seats took 20000 miles to give!!! The 5008 GT line gets the pan roof... I agree about the touchscreen, you have to time it when driving to use this safely. The auto gearbox is superb. The drive is really easy, and actually much more fun than a Skoda equivalent which has less fun steering, I had a Kodiaq on holiday recently. Great balanced review, you are beginning to see what French cars are about, it really has been the best family car for us, and looks so cool, we get lots of compliments, which we would not have got getting a Skoda or Seat..

Thanks for this review Matt, very honest and helpful. I am scouring the market at the moment and prices have outpaced value, so I came across the 3008 and couldn’t believe how much car you could get for not-crazy prices. Then I saw your review so I am now seriously considering this car as 1.6 GT model.

I love cars like this - premium cars without the premium badge. I've done several thousand miles in a top spec Honda Civic and loved having that quality experience without shouting about it. As opposed to the A Class/1 series/A3 brigade who buy cars for the badge, not the quality. After all, you spend more time experiencing your car than looking at it. And that premium experience is what matters to me.

Great video again, just one point may help you sell, the AGC is non standard, it is a rare option, i tried for weeks to find even one that had it, the Sheffield dealers all said there were few 3008s out there with it. You may want to push this point. Lovely car and great video!

What a lovely looking car. I too see plenty of them over here on the correct side of the Pennines aand I guess they are popular for a reason. They are both stylish inside and out, reasonably frugal and pleasant to drive. Win win all round. Thanks for a great review.

Another great and honest review Matt. I had a 2017, GT Line with pano roof in Sunset Cooper…or Brown (according to Revenue). The small steering wheel was so easy to get used to, and I would frequently change the iCockpit display, just for variety. It was the diesel, BlueHDi version. No DPF to clog, but it was important to add AdBlue whenever it sought it. The reversing camera was glitchy initially, but that was sorted by a softwear update. Was actually a very reliable car. It replaced a MINI Countryman (last in a line of MINIs). It was a shock how I didn’t need to spend multiples of the base price to get a well equipped car!!!

Just a heads up; you can actualy control a lot of the apps via the 'speech' button on the small steering wheel, as well as the right roll pad once in an app. Very similar interior & controls to my own '20 208. If that steering wheel was large you'd not be able to see the dials, hence why it's that odd shape & size. Yet another great road test though. About the high Peugeot clutch on manuals, my old '62 308 had one of those, hence why I opted for the EAT8 (silly name) auto too. lol. But it's silky smooth imho.
