The N57 usually needs a water pump, an alternator, a valve cover, an intake manifold, a timing chain kit, rod bearings and crank bearings if you wanna keep it going after 150k. Basically it's an engine out job with a price tag of 5k. These are cheap for a reason. Great cars when they work, and they are quite reliable. But reliable doesn't mean it's cheap to maintain. They are quite needy.

Had an E36 bought at 15 years old and kept for 6 years , putting 12-15,000 miles a year on it so expected mileage consumables but it also went in for all sorts of other bits In between servicing . Had a local specialist or it would have been even more tres bollox in costs. TBF it was a 6 cylinder coupe so heart over head.

I have driven the X5 & great to drive, but low profiles on these cars just makes them feel less smooth. I’d rather have smaller wheels and bigger tyres. Low profiles look great but you don’t see them yourself when you are driving the thing! 😂

I just sold a 2007 e91 manual 325d (same engine, but in a much, much prettier car), same mileage (140k) for £850 and was delighted to get out of it at that. Needed a clutch (possibly also dual mass flywheel- who knows? But I didn't want to start investigating), and DPF light on every trip. Would have been so, so much money to keep it going. These cars are expired at 150k. You just so rarely see them with much more than that on them. The X6 is a deeply unsettling looking vehicle too.

I'd not pay bent washers for that monstrosity, but I'll admit that is a chunk of car for the asking price. The engine is peachy. Some years ago, I had a 1999 530d with 180k on the clock. One day, travelling back from a site meeting in Cumbria, I got caught on the M6 South - all lanes closed and traffic diverted through Lancaster. I joined the M6 at Lancaster South, after coming to a halt at Lancaster North 5 hours earlier, at 20:50. I got back to chez kiteless in Telford at 10:05..........overtaken once on the way back by a Panamera doing North of 120.

being a BMW, the X AWD system works differently than the other AWD system that are in the other brands. On a BMW the system works on X, that means the tires have to match in X (corners and thread) and not on the same axel, but usually, on all AWD cars, they need to have the same brand, model and thread.

When the X6 was first released it was roundly criticised by the motoring press for its restrictive rear view and reduced rear accommodation compared to the X5 but it was the first of the now popular SUV coupe now quite common amongst many other manufacturers which around the world has been quite popular. It looks too much like a gangsters' car to me and don't expect other drivers to let you into traffic but it looks like this is a good one.

Watch the tyres theres a specific tolerance if you put new on the front if the tread is out of tolerance with the rears you will get transfer box issues/ possible failure

Based on the service/maintenance book oil was changed every 20-30K miles (15K-35K- 63K-76K-90K-104K-117K- 139K-(at 43K and 132 K the oil was x-ed not checked in the box), coolant was not changed neither the trans fluid (based on the booklet)- what a waste...It might consume engine oil if that is true...and a loads of other stuff like acidic coolant...but it was cheap=ticking bomb

For doctor's appointments, I use a private car service. I would drive, but I'd be more likely to run into actual Jesus than I would run into an available outdoor parking space. There's one large lot in that neighborhood which quite frankly is not enough. Parking there would honestly cost more than using the private car service to pick me up and drop me off. The driver has a couple of luxury vehicles that he uses. One of them, a BMW X6, in black. One time, I hired him to go to some specialized shops with my elderly mother and myself. Her folding laundry cart/shopping cart would not fit in the back of the empty X6. Stylish, sloping roof-line got in the way. We had to prop it up on the backseat. Yes, that was with the cart folded flat.

Most large BMW's were diesels here in the UK. Although BMW have ceased selling diesel models in the UK now, as have Volvo and some other car makers. Diesels account for just 6% of new car sales here now.... down from around 50% 4 years ago.

Had a rough life this one and going by the plate it originated in Glasgow. Never liked the BMW X2, X4 or X6. Coupe sloping rear just eats into the space . That's why the X1 , X3 and X5 are more popular. Engine in this one is quite good being the 3.0d it should be pushing out 258bhp.
