Welcome Back!
Another "How To" video on the Jaguar XE!
I have done this video to help whoever wants to service their own jaguar XE. It's pretty basic stuff and not really any other different than most modern cars, even if you want to change the oil more regularly this could help you out.
we have started to see alot more timing chain failures and turbo's starting to fail and in my opinion its the 20,000 mile service intervals contributing to this (just my opinion!)
I have split the video up in to different sections so if you only want to do one section of the service it will be easy to find:
0:00 - Intro
2:20 - Oil & Filter Change
10:45 - Air filter replacement
12:15 - Fuel filter replacement
18:20 - Cabin (pollen) filter replacement
links to service items and oil filter tool as mentioned:
- Oil filter tool: ebay.us/bM7jQe
- Oil: ebay.us/4rwnwB
- Service Kit: ebay.us/COctQ0
The Above Are Affiliate links where I will get a small percentage of the final sale cost which will help me find this channel
Thank you all for watching and don't forget to please subscribe to the channel for more automotive content like this! I would like to say a massive thank you to those that have subscribed and helped me get over that magic 1000 subscribers now lets make it 2,000!

Good video, thanks. On my Jaguar XE Prestige 20D AWD, I replace the oil and filter every 5000 miles (and I also use the factory oil) and I like to use *CERATEC* by Liqui Molly every other oil change... I’m not saying you have to do this, that’s just the schedule I run on y personal XE 20D. I replace the air filter every 10000 miles, since we live in the southwest of the USA and here in the desert we have plenty of dust and sand blowing. Cabin filter I do every 5000 miles and that’s the only filter I don’t use the JLR because I found this one: (Purolator PBC35667 PurolatorBOSS Premium Cabin Air Filter with Febreze Freshness) to perform better, it has an extra layer and they smell neutral and very fresh! The diesel filter I use also original JLR and normally do every 20000 miles, I use pure diesel purge from Liqui Molly to prime the filter.... (IT HELPS TO WITHOUT STARTING THE CAR TO PUSH THE STOP START AT LEAST SEVEN TIMES AND LET THE PUMP FILL THE SYSTEM). These are not fun to replace... hihi... :o) The cabin filter could have been engineered a bit better as well, each time having to remove the glove box, a quick tip, when that flat is down where the air filter sits, put the fan all the way low, and when you push the stop start just for a second, that flat will lift up.... (without the “crack”). WE ENJOY YOUR VIDEOS! We always learn! If you ever do a radiator flush on the Xe, please do make a video! Thanks to you, I know how to drain and refill the DEF :o) Thanks, and cheers!

@@TrackAndBeyond Thanks :o) Here is how it says it in the topix workshop manual: Failure to carry out this step correctly, can result in damage to the recirculation motor/flap. Refer to: Control Components (412-01 Climate Control, Description and Operation). 2.Switch ignition on. 3 Press the recirculation button for three seconds to set the climate control system into to recirculation mode And that makes the accordion white flap go up :o)

I completed my fist service on my jaguar xf today and used your video as a guide, thank you. The undertray is quite difficult to remove. It's a pity Jaguar didn't put a hole/flap in it near the oil sump to enable an easier oil change. In my case someone over tightened the fasteners with an air gun and damaged some of the clips. The outer edges ones were all torn. Next time I will probably extract the oil with an electric oil remover. Too much haste raising the car up on axle stands and crawling underneath.

Yes! I also thought why on earth didn’t they put a little flap for the oil service! Glad you got it done tho 😀

Couple of pointers- when changing the air fiter- block off the air trunking and use a blower to get rid of dirt and leafs left inside the air filter housing and remove to cloth to block off the trunking before starting the engine!!! Never reuse diesel from the old filter!!! This fuel system probably self circulates bleeding its self once you've cycled the ignition key 3 times for 15 seconds and it should start fine. You'll risk blocking or reducing the life of the injectors as they are of a piezoelectric type and have a tolerance down to the micron scale, risking dirty diesel from an old filter is just undoing all the good your trying to do! If you have to pre fill the fuel filter use clean diesel from a fuel can and a clean funnel. I'd also probably use a blower to clean out the cabin filter area to get rid of anything organic. Or just turn on the fan to the highest speed without the cabin filter in place for 10 seconds so. Listen out to vibrations as there is probably a leaf stuck in the fan vain. Remove and retry until perfect. Don't for get to check your braking system, ball joints and suspension components. Full operation check. Top up levels, and make sure there are no leaks from the engine, gearbox, dif engine bay. Road test.

Very good run-down. I confess I never pre-primed by fuel filter and had it cranking for about 10 seconds before it fired up but I seem to have got away with it. In terms of service history proof, I have been keeping my receipts for jaguar genuine parts since I bought the car new and I just hand write the mileage and date of service on each receipt for the records. I now have a comprehensive self-service history right up to 100K miles, which I did today! With regard to oil changes: 1) I just use castrol edge 0w-30. I feel there is unlikely to be a significant difference between that and the specific oil that they want you to buy. In fact, back in 2015-2016 when I bought the car, castrol edge 0W-30 was the recommended oil. They brought out the more expensive jag branded stuff later on. - I can source 8L of generic castrol edge for £70. 2) I also do the 10,000 mile changes, however, it wont save your timing chain. These chains were made super skinny to pass euro emissions regs and they all fail anywhere from about 60-120K miles. Mine went at 90K. Jaguar have changed the timing chains for ones that supposedly should last, so if you bought a 2018+ model or had your chain replaced since then - it should be good to last. Jag specialists tend to charge £1500-£2000 for chain replacement as its a gearbox-out job. All the best. James.
@TrackAndBeyond
@TrackAndBeyond 2 жыл бұрын
Agreed there’s no guarantee it will save the timing chain but as o say adding 20k service intervals just seems like it’s creating a fucking time bomb. No matter how good the oil is I just can’t see how 20k miles is deemed ok. Like you I’m skeptical of the oil grade regarding the Jaguar Land Rover spec however I used it and obviously if people where to follow the guide it just makes life easier suggesting the Jaguar Land Rover spec 😁 Thanks for the kind words and watching I really appreciate it Jason

Just had my xe serviced by the local jag dealer, when questioned about the renewal of the air filter located behind the glove box he confirmed that access by the removal of the glove box was too complicated and that they accessed the filter by removing the plastic casing below the wiper blades to gain access.At the end of the day I presume that is what they did, interesting.

At what mileage you recomand to change it ? And also , do you know rougly how much will be the cost of replacement ? Thank you
@TrackAndBeyond
@TrackAndBeyond 3 жыл бұрын
Firstly thanks for the kind words! So timing chains their is a lot of different in my opinion out their. A timing chain should be a “lifetime” part so in theory shouldn’t need to be changed. However, it appears to be a bit of a lottery now this isn’t just a jag thing this seems to be the case with any car with a chain. My XE is now nearly at 100k with no issues but others have suffers with chain issues at low mileage. Asking as maintenance is kept well and perhaps lower the service intervals like I will be it “should” be fine I may look at getting mine done this or next year for peace of mind but I might not bother either. Iv seen people quoted £900-1800 for a chain replacement so depending where you are and what sort of garage will do the work it’s a bit of a difference in the price range. Hope this helps Jason 😃

On the jag under the will you can see the normal straight line where the sill is, their are 2 bits on the sill where their is a hole and it slightly different to the rest of the sill theses are the jacking points. Now I’ll be honest the axle stands are the nightmare; on the front I used twist look like the rear of the wishbones but this is quite tricky to get the axle stand to sit under. I’ll try get a video soon but hope this helps! Jason

Thanks for the kind words! The start/stop is something we all either love or hate 🤣 and the jag system doesn’t really like to play ball. Any start stop feature is hard to get right as their are so many things that need to be right for it to work properly like air temp etc. however normally the route cause is battery voltage being too low. I’m surprised Jaguar didn’t replace the battery then reset it to be honest as that could well cure the issue. My start/stop has never worked and to be honest I like it that way 🤣 Hope that helps Jason

Sadly if you’ve had the new battery it is just down to Jaguar to sort out then really. Loud vibration could either be engine mounts if exhaust mounts however I would also get the engine checked over as the noise could be coming from the cam chain and if it is that’s a pricey fix

Do you need to make sure you precharge the oil filter and do not put a dry oil filter in and oil the o-ring. Just soak the oil filter in a clean container for a half a minute at least best to fill up the oil before you put the filter in through the oil filter chamber, you put a dry filter in your getting no capillary action there's a delay because it's dry can be up to 10 seconds of engine running how much was your scissor lift? You didn't put the shroud back

@TrackAndBeyond
@TrackAndBeyond 2 жыл бұрын
Hello there! I wouldn’t rule out an old battery causing the issue but Iv not had my stop start working for over a year and the cars fine, you could try the park brake recalibration which i believe is the following: 1. Start the engine. 2. Firmly apply and release the footbrake five (5) times. 3. Confirm that the message 'NOT CALIBRATED' or 'APPLY FOOT AND PARK BRAKE' is displayed on the Instrument Cluster message center. This indicates that the parking brake is in calibration mode. 4. Lightly press the footbrake pedal. 5. Apply the parking brake by using the EPB switch. 6. Release the parking brake. 7. Release the footbrake. 8. Confirm that the brake warning lamp is no longer illuminated on the Instrument Cluster and that the 'NOT CALIBRATED' message is no longer displayed in the message center. 9. Apply and release the EPB five (5) times to ensure no error is present I haven’t done this my self but this is the procedure I have noted down in the event of a parking brake fault. You may need to repeat the footbrake/EPB switch 3 or 4 times to get it to work. Hope this helps Jason
