Hello Miriam! Aw so lovely to see you out enjoying everything esp the highs! the quiet and the solitude and the shore and great camp spots and quiet lanes... When you said you are in your element hunting for your first camp spot, ah so nice you look so happy... That tap haha!! glad that it isnt just me who does things like that haha. You were hard as nails getting up so early in the dark! it's summer, must have been super duper early!! Yeah the ring of kerry, took me back a bit... seems like that loop was THE thing to do wanst it, back in the day - I've met loads of old-school cycle touring people my (our!) age who did it... I think there must have been articles about it in the CTC magazine or something, and back then that was kind of all we knew... It was my first foreign cycling trip I ever did, I came on the ferry from liverpool and rode it with a school friend when we were 17 or something in the 1980s, super excited, with our green Karrimore panniers, I loved those panniers actually haha!! and karrimats and nylon sleeping bags that you were supposed to use in caravans. Happy days! Thank you for the great film!

Super Susanna!! What an adventure to do at 17 - not many parents would allow their daughter to set off for a trip like that now with a pal at 17 I’d imagine 😉 That must have been such a life opening experience for you both to do - no wonder your big trips became what they did!! Strange how some ‘tourist locations’ are more frequented by international visitors than by the natives - I’m glad I eventually got to see the place anyway 🤩 That sleeping bag you used wouldn’t have the qualities we’ve become accustomed to now…so great to hear you and your pal did it all those years ago!! Cheerd Jason! Ahh there's plenty of quiet roads for us to explore - speeding cars can still come along I suppose! 🙃 The Brompton did very well, it dragged me around the peninsula with ease. Yes, I finally did some fruit, I had a mix of strawberries and raspberries and they certainly make the porridge very sweet. I used to bring honey along for my porridge also, but no need with the dehydrated fruit! The tent has found a good home in my wardrobe and will be brought out to play often 🤞😇

Officer Tent Police here. We have reason to believe that you are practically glamping now with that enormous luxury new tent. Very nice. I think that little beach in Kells was where 30 odd years ago some locals and a Dubliner took me out in their boat along the coast pulling up lobster pots and catching a lot of mackerel and I met them all again that night in the local pub while staying in a B&B across the road and they wouldn't let me buy a round. Amazing day and one of my fondest memories ever and the sun was beating down on the beach and bay all day. I always meant to go back there again. If I recall correctly and surprisingly I'm pretty sure I do, the guys names were Humphrey O'Connor (he gave me a sheep dog rounding up demo with his dogs which was brilliant) and Con Murphy. I met Humphrey when I stopped at a dead end after leaving the beach intending to drive on around the coast. It took me about eight back and forth turns to get the small car turned around on the tiny road which was when I met Humphrey (who had a hangover) out looking for his horses and I gave him a beer and he invited me fishing which was absolutely brilliant. They even let me try driving the boat and the folks at the B&B cooked up some of the Mackerel for me. Special days.

It was nice for me to have a chance to go back to that memory of that place. Miriam, a perfect age to be doing the Ring of Kerry for the first time😊 Lovely countryside to be feeling that burn🔥 That was cool camping advice for a lovely spot beside the coast👍 Loved that cyclists reaction to your bike and the super cool tractor run🚜😊 Camp spot 2 was even a notch higher👍 The quiet roads definitely won the day - the noise of cars can be absolutely deafening even when walking alongside a busy road. High standards are important👍 though as you say you sometimes just have to make your bed and lie in it. You truly do have power over the rain🌨🌨😊

Another great video of a great place Miriam. Very impressed with those shots of the pedals-have you trained the drone to follow your toes 😄. I have a great memory of Moll's Gap. I cycled up there after my Leaving Cert with a good pal of mine and we ran into Horslips (who? I hear you say) and we got tickets for the show in Killarney. Those days, there was a pub up in the hills near Moll's gap and we celebrated the ascent by downing 2 pints of Guinness before heading down the hill; serious overtime for the guardian angels! Great to see you out and about and great to have had your company a few weeks ago in Glendalough-looking forward to the next adventure!
@MiriamKennedy5 ай бұрын
I can't train the drone to do anything - I still haven't mastered the 'follow me' functionality...I need to spend an afternoon practicing before a trip to get a better handle on it. Each time I go out I think I know what I've to do but it never works for me and I can't spend the time or battery power on a trip trying to get it right! See, I knew it would be a "decent watch" 😊 Just watched it through a second time (hope the YT algorithms are doing their thing) and enjoyed it just as much. Some emotional highs and lows. I'm wondering if you felt you got enough time to savour all the little things or all the beauty? Perhaps the race to beat the rain, the blessed cars, or all the tourists, kept a pressure on? But you've done it now (at the ever-so great age of 51 😄) , let's see what comes next...
@MiriamKennedy4 ай бұрын
Ah you’re biased, but I’ll take it!! 😂 The camera always takes a bit from it for me as my head stays very active..I get the pay off of the memory record though! Another great watch Miriam, and beautifully edited as always. Your Drone footage is a joy to watch - and I bet your heart was in your mouth when it went down in that field! It's great to see how happy you are when you're out, full of smiles, and I was laughing at the tent police comment - the X-Mid 2 looks a great tent, I much prefer the look of it as compared to the X-Mid 1...I may have to investigate further online, but I really don't need another tent 🙄😂 All the villages looked so vibrant and colourful, perfect for a stop and snack and I liked all 3 of your pitches - I haven't done much cycle touring, but the hardest part must be finding suitable camp spots when you're travelling mostly on roads. What good fortune to pop in that pub for water and to be pointed in the right direction that first night. I even liked the picnic bench pitch on the last night, sometimes it's the places you're not very happy or comfortable with that you remember the longest. Loved the noisy tractors as well. Well done on putting that many miles in, really enjoyed this one 🚴🏼♀✨

Hiya Miriam, I don't know how this little gem slipped past me. Your wonderful horse shoe walk appeared in my feed, and Ive just enjoyed watching it. Only after watching that, did this post pop up in my feed..what are you playing at KZbin!?!? It seems more bizarre because Ive been looking at lots of bikepacking posts lately, seeing as I have been trying my own bicycle adventures. When you were filming this I had not long since returned from a bikepacking trip in the Scottish Highlands. Anyway, back to your wonderful post. Ireland looks so very beautiful, and despite not having visited the emerald isle since the mid nineties, both yours and Jason's posts keep subliminally influencing my longing to return in the near future. Thoroughly enjoyed this little cycling/camping adventure and i hope you do some more. I have fond memories of several trips to Donegal, and one to the stunning Dingle peninsula. Have you cycled/walked in these areas? And if you had to, where would you personally recommend visiting to really encapsulate the best flavour of Ireland? Great to see you out and about filming your adventures. Thanks Miriam, you take care!😊

Thanks Tim! Great to hear you’ve had a bikepacking adventure in the Scottish Highlands! 🤩 That must have been such an adventure. Yes - I’ve done a few trips and some videos for Donegal (just Tory Island and the Derryveagh Mountains), nothing for Dingle. If I was to pick one spot to encapsulate Ireland - for me it’s the Aran islands (there are 3, any or all of them are worth a visit)..such a great place to cycle, really quiet and for me it makes me feel like it’s the real Ireland that I know! Mayo and Connemara have been my favourite places to cycle to date and the mountains are fantastic for hiking. I hope that helps and if you do make it over, do let me know!! 😊

I was out last night in the tent before the next bout of strong winds arrives - it was still strong and I had to jump up at 7am to get the tent packed up before I took off!! Take good care 😉

Hi girls wondering what outer rain jackets you wear when out on the bikes, are they any good. ? Big Thanks x
@MiriamKennedy5 ай бұрын
I’m a Rab girl…I tend to buy my stuff on SportPursuit at half the price. I have a few different Rab rain jackets that I use for hiking and cycling. I don’t tend to scrimp on my rain jackets but at least the SportPursuit website will have them heavily discounted. For this trip I also brought a Trekmates Tour Poncho - the poncho was cheap enough and the ends of my arms did get wet but I’d definitely use it again. I decided to keep my jacket dry for when I was back at the train station and for my cycle home 😊 Hope that helps!! x

I have great memories of when I did it in 2017, although I did it in the other direction and part of a much longer trip from Tralee to Mizen along the coast. I was cheating and staying in hostels! I did it in October and seen very few cars, but I think all the coastal routes have become much busier now, in Donegal at least. I look at coast roads I used to cycle regularly and they are too busy in the summer months for my tastes.
