The entire Genre uses the Rebirth as framing to justify the protagonist having extra knowledge - it's a replacement for the older wise mentor (ex. Gandalf, Obi-won, Mr. Miyagi, Yoda, and so on are all examples of the Mentor). The second part of the genre fits around usually the Overcoming the monster, or The Quest component. In this way, the only difference becomes the details - how the interactions take place, and so on.

Y'know, we _have_ seen this theme used a lot, _but_ the _manga_ in which this story first appeared predates every other manga and anime and light novel which used the idea. So this anime is an adaptation of the Ur-story.

Well, not every other manga. There are a bunch that came around the same time or before it, but it's definitely one of the more popular and noted as great quality ones in the fandom for this genre (this and The Villainess Turns Back the Hourglass came around the same time iirc). Still a really good manga and anime, though!

i've watched the whole series, and i will forever say that the thing that sets katarina apart from other isekai FLs is the fact that she is so locked in on trying not to perish, she doesn't even REALIZE THAT HER FRIENDS LOVE HER IN *THAT* WAY. she only learned that TWO out of eight of the people that surrounds her loves her romantically on the 2nd season. I want to see one of these where the character remains a villain, just goes about it smarter and more manipulatively than high school bullying. Maybe give her a goal besides just surviving too, like sympathy for other characters that the plot trashes because they aren’t the protagonist. Though I’d honestly be fine if the character was just spiteful, long as she’s got a magnetic personality. The best part about this genre, at least for me, is how conflict typically isn’t resolved through force. The ones that really lean into navigating social and political situations were peak. A legit villain in a dating sim world has so much opportunity for that kind of thing.
