Mulligan is very well spoken and articulate, and knows a lot about all the men he worked with. His interviews are better than I expected.

The Baron was a legit great amateur wrestler. He was a state champion, big 8 conference champion in college, AAU champion, world championships bronze medal, qualfied for the Olympics in wrestling, won an overall US military interservice championship in wrestling. He was also on a state champion football team in high school in Nebraska. He was one of the most skilled wrestlers of his era in pro wrestling.

Yup you wouldn't think he was all that looking at him! He didn't compete in the Olympics due to breaking his leg I believe. Bob Roop knew Baron and trained with him back in their Greco Roman days and Roop said Baron helped him improve so much in it. Billy Robinson also said Baron was one of the best shooters of his generation.

I just watched Baron's interview, he was at the Olympic try-outs and he was facing a man he had beaten five times previously, his opponent used an illegal manoeuvre and caused Baron's wrist to swell, and he couldn't go on the aeroplane to Japan a few days late because of it. Damn shame.

I love how Jack tells his stories, where he still tells his stories w/a slight Kayfabe tint to them bc he did it for so long and it was such an major part of their jobs. I don't know if that makes sense but obviously these interviews are not brand new (I'm guessing 10 - 15 yrs old bc of the hgher quality of video) but clearly long after Vince spilled the beans on RAW. Though if you listen to him tell his stories (maybe not so much in this one but others bc the algorithm has me in a Jack Windham/Mulligan loop at the moment but I don't mind.) it's probably a muscle memories like hitting the bathroom switch the same way for 40 yrs then you have the bathroom redone + you now have to retrain the muscle memory to break that habit.

On May 15, 1971, Mulligan challenged new WWWF Heavyweight Champion Pedro Morales. During the bout, a fan jumped into the ring and stabbed Mulligan in the leg with a knife, opening a huge wound. "Towels on Mulligan’s wounds quickly reddened as he was carried from the ring to receive 100 stitches at the hospital.” - Boston Globe

Raschke was Hulking up long before Hogan made it famous. As a face Raschke would be taking a beating, then slowly start perking up, each punch would increase his strength until he was goose stepping around the ring impervious to pain. Then he would unleash The Claw.

The Baron was wrestling Pat O'Connor in St. Louis when Pat told him in the middle of the match to put the Claw on him and the rest was history. BTW, he was billed as Von Raschke in St. Louis minus the Baron. Not sure why.

Baron was a legit shooter and NCAA wrestler. He had a lot more skill than he ever showed in the ring. He was on par with Stu Hart and Billy Robinson. He won a bronze medal for the United States in Greco-Roman during the 1963 World Championships, and was on the 1964 Olympic team. He was a legit wrestler.
