How fondly I remember watching this series when it was brand new with my 2 sisters and parents when we kids were tiny! Broderick Crawford looked so old to me then, as he would to a 5 - 6 years old as I was then! Now being an elderly widow as I am today, he looks young and so handsome!!! Thank you kindly for broadcasting these shows!!!
@conniewojahn6445 Жыл бұрын
I wouldn't call him "young and handsome." He's a bit fat. Too many of those $1.25 steadk dinners advertised at some of the road side diners in the shows. The officers are young and thin with flat stomachs, and the women are thin with actual waists. People didn't eat fast food and food full of chemicals.

Highway Patrol is a great program. I saw it in youth, and it brings back memories - and especially in the fact that when I saw it as a young person then I believed that this was really the true way every Police investigation unfolds. But of course not. Far too many coincidences into Matthews' favor. But that's okay, and it always ties up well. As to the comments, 1) everybody likes the cars. Especially I do, born in 1958. But a wild ride - all of them need shock absorbers or a new suspension, as it is insufficient for the weight. They all bounce down the street like a rubber ball, and when the chases stops then the car keeps going. 2) Crawford, born in 1911 was evidently still in his forties here. Looks quite a bit older, and thank God today for Obamacare, and the rumors on what to eat for breakfast. 3) People talk about the narration, and it's great. But do realize that at the time of production was not so long after radio programs that depicted police work, and even at that - some programs were both on television and also on radio. Not everybody had a television. So, production here was probably a close kin to that. Probable the same people behind the scenes (pun intended). I.E Jack Webb, Dragnet ☺😚🥲

That's California mountains. Also, the acoustics in mountains make the difference. Crawford suspicious about the guns brought out would have been alerted. Down here in Texas and especially a Farm, they keep guns down here in case of varmits like snakes, raccoons(wild) and others. It's normal for a guy to have a gun to protect his family, property, farms and ranches. I grew up in California where the Highway patrol show was created. UTube is a great thing for all of us who like these old shows. I've seen them before but still enjoy all of them. I married a Texan. Even in the Navy when I was in California, they just don't like anyone owning guns. I used to joke that if anyone invaded Calif. they could walk in and take it if the Navy wasn't there. No, I'd rather be in Texas, despite missing the ocean. I love it here. We Texans still believe in our Country and our Freedoms. The last time me and my husband visited Calif, some guy my husband worked for told my husband, that I didn't act like a Californian despite the fact that I was born there. That I was more Texan than Californian. I just laughed. The nonsensical part of this story is that rewards are usually worded like "for information leading to the arrest and conviction of [whoever]", so the informant doesn't need to raise a finger -- just let police know where to find the person in order for an arrest to be made.

this is another one that makes absolutely no sense. When the highway patrol comes up to this guy's Farm, all he had to do was say that they had the man cornered in the barn and let them take over, they would still have gotten the reward

@@auggie803 You are the perfect example of someone who becomes too absorbed in fiction. This is one of those shows where the civilian, or ordinary citizen is portrayed as a bumbling idiot and a dangerous fool, but the "official" is the highly competent savior. Before tv, movies didnt do that. I believe it's part of the reason the average American man now is rather feminine, psychologically weak and easily buffaloed.

I like the show because it provides an interesting look back at the fifties but barging through the barn door he would be dead, looking around for the gunman then getting jumped is a bit far stretched. Adam 12 series that followed later is far more believable.
