1950s. Anyone with a job could buy a house, or rent. Car too. I was born 1951. I saw moms with no husband, buy a house, car. Billy looney ‘s mom was an aging cocktail waitress, on Vermont. Little bar. She had a house, new 58 Chevy, then in 1961, got a new 62 Chevy, impala, convertible. Same as 1958 car, black with red interior, white convertible top. Love the 1950s.

Did anyone notice that right at the beginning of the show on the left-hand side of the street that there are three Packards parked in a row, which the boy then passes by on his bicycle - no doubt a proud Packard owner lived at that location. In real life there would be no way that a mother would contact the Highway Patrol accompanied by the kid’s doctor no less, just because her son was missing for a couple of hours. This would be a job for the local police although the HWP could have gotten involved later. That kid was definitely lucky that he met a couple of nice men on his journey because he could have easily run into some bad company. This is definitely not one of the better episodes.

@ZoneFighter1 Recall that back in 1919, Ike was in command of the US Army's Motor Transport Corps convoy that drove from Washington DC to San Franscisco. It was a herculean effort and managed to log an average speed of 5 mph. Men died, equipment broke down and the whole thing went several days behind schedule. I don't think that Ike ever forgot it. The "military" use was part of the original 1956 appropriation, because it relied on defense funds. All sorts of reasons were given, including providing evacuation routes from major cities in case of nuclear attack. One of the objectives was to provide access to all US Air Force Bases, which explains the route somewhat.

Notice that the '56 Ford Pickup has no door mirrors. And then when Jimmy is walking past a store window, a '56 Ford pickup, probably the same truck, is reflected in the glass. And the '56 Buick cop car appears to be a 4 dr. hardtop instead of the usual 4 dr. sedan cop car. But I guess I'm being too picky.
@hoss73ford
@hoss73ford 7 жыл бұрын
Outside mirrors were an extra cost option. The inside one was standard. Also a passenger side sun visor was also an option. My '56 only has the driver's side. Also optional is the driver side outside door lock key cylinder. Ford did not always have better ideas as the 60s slogan said.
@jimervin387
@jimervin387 7 жыл бұрын
It seemed to me that the outside mirrors may have been removed since they would interfere with the shots of the driver and passenger. But I'll check my original sales brochure for the truck. I'll also have to check my picture of my old '56 Mercury Pickup to see if I can spot a driver's side door lock key cylinder. My truck was a Custom Cab model though, with the chrome grille.

Back then you could leave a kid alone. I know, I was there. LOL 😆 I HAD my Schwinn stingray and would ride for hrs or take it apart and clean bearings with a Coffee can with gas, & regrease bearings and reassemble bike. Fix flats myself.. Or play in backyard with G.I. JOES, OR my dump truck and skip loader and dig holes and carve out a town with streets. LOL LOL 😆😆 Those were some better days for sure.. I was happy to walk to and from school,a mile each way. Rick Nelson would bring over his skinny model girl friends to his lead bass players house/ guest house, that small one bed house was owned by my great grand mother and it was built in my backyard, it was called the 1/2 address, the addresses behind our address.. the bass player only paid like 75.00 bucks a month. Those were the days in the mid 60's--mid 70's.. The lead bass player Jay White and one other band member quit Ricks band 2 months before Ricks crack pipe caught fire and burned plane and crashed. Two pilots survived, 9 totle on board. 7 died, 2 survived. A couple yrs later Jay White told me what happened, that word came from the bands family, the family got it from the authorities... And JAY White confirmed that Rick had a habit... So yes those were still better days then today.. I cherish lots more that happened as a kid. The LA RAMS would send there good friend and there hang around over to my dad's house and the friend was a friend of my dad's too. My dad was friends with several players & others such as the father on Dennis the Menice show. Anyway everybody have a great day and a better tomorrow, and don't forget,, " GO FULL CARNIVORE" and stay healthy and be on No meds. Diabetes Gone. High blood pressure Gone. Tumors Gone. Dry skin Gone. Hair growing like crazy, hair much thicker too.. The list goes on & on.. Switch today & be alive and healthy so you can go biking & hiking like me.. Eat all the fat on your steaks. Sorry for the tangent.. God bless you all..

I was three year old boy in 1955. My four year old brother and I walked away from home by walking down the beach for miles. We weren't running away, we were just being silly kids. A family in a big old ugly 50ish looking black sedan spotted us and stopped. It looked just like many of the cars shown in these old shows. They left their six year old son to wait with us while they went to find a telephone booth (remember those?) to call the police. That little $h*t made us put nail polish on our fingernails. Maybe it was Pride month or something. We said no and then he threatened to hit us with a big rock if we didn't do it. Our nails have never looked so pretty. The city police came and drove us home and we got a good scolding from mom AND the policeman but he was really nice about it. They should have made our experience into a Highway Patrol episode.

Interesting. Any basis on reality? If you reported a child had run away today here in Australia, it would be almost "tell someone who cares." They would tie up the reporting person for an hour filling out forms. Then, when a couple of cops were available they would go get the parents and uncles etc to fill out forms. The 14 year old daughter of my mother's boss ran off with her boyfriend. Several days passed - it didn't appear the cops did anything other than telex the form details to all police stations. But the girl and her boyfriend had lunch at a cafe in another city 300 km away - it happened that the cafe owner knew my mother's boss and called him. He managed to find where they were living. I think any parent would have zero chance in hell of getting a specialist doctor to go with her to a police station - that bit is totally unrealistic. So is the idea of the doc being ready to operate as soon as the boy is found. Those doctors earn $400 an hour, and they don't wait for anybody.

Take this Buick 4-door hardtop in this episode. These days, you need to line-up 15 average cars to get as much real metal from them as this one Buck had. Cars and SUVs of today -- you can disassemble their body work entirely by kicking them and punching them at just the right joint spots. No tools needed! It is a total racket what the automobile manufacturers are getting away these days, each and every year these cars are becoming lighter and wesker. Totally unsafe. Latest model year vehicles I feel safe in are those from the first half of the 1990s. Early to mid 1950s though the early 1990s, and after that -- just forgetabouthem.
