Alot of this episode was shot at Willoughby Ave. and Highland Ave. in Hollywood. You can see the old Bekins building in background. That building is still there today.

I fondly remember watching Highway Patrol when I was a little girl with my parents and 2 sisters! I'm an elderly widow now, and I just love Broderick Crawford as Dan Matthews! I like the way he walks, talks, and no one on the show could say "10-4" quite the way he said it! I l like those old cars, too, with their fins, LOL!!!

I have an old Highway Patrol board game from 1958 with a picture of Crawford on the box lid. . The idea was to create a road block trapping in the crook, as was done in a number of episodes. For a syndicated show, it was very popular.

Back in the old days, small town America, they had universal checks that you could use if you didn't have any cash, or checks with your name printed on them. I can remember my dad using one once, and even wrote it out to the local merchant, using a pencil! Of course it wouldn't work if they didn't know you.

Being in the printing business myself!I recall doing personal concert tickets back in the 90s. Paper stock was very important. In NY we didn't buy stock from Staples. Hahahaha. You could get any stock you wanted back in the day. All those prining places are gone now.

I like the posts here by old car lovers. Every car you see is a classic, unrestored and with original paint. Even at auto shows you don't see that. You have to view old time shows to see it. This was a good show though. I enjoy the cars and the action.

. Yeah, they didn't drive as well or last as long as today's cars, but they were beautiful cars. Very stylish. I'm 66, so I can remember when cars with tail fin's and flashy chrome were still on the road. They were still seen into the early 70's even. My family still had a 1959 Buick in 1972. But my mom sold it for $200 because it had problems and was becoming a junker.

One of the joys of this series for me is finding the locations of the various buildings (houses, stores, banks, etc) used and comparing the location today via Google street view. Great to see some buildings still extant, although the businesses have usually long gone. One example is the Nonpareil Printing Company at 1117 N Las Palmas Ave LA -- building is still standing but no business evident there for many years.

I am 70. They shot many scenes in the valley and Chatsworth. If they needed shacks they'd use the TV cowboy ranches. Crawford lost his Calif. License so some scenes on private roads.

Clint Eastwood was in an episode too. Back in the 1950's before Rawhide, most people in Hollywood doubted Clint would amount to anything and Universal Pictures didn't renew the contract Clint signed with them in 1955 telling Clint he was in the wrong profession and his Adams apple was too big to work in movies and TV shows. They suggested he give up acting and find something else. I wonder what they thought when Clint became as big as John Wayne and Gary Cooper??

People forget a lot of the cars from that time were base model strippers. I loved that base model 1957 Plymouth 4 door sedan. If I found that car today, I would restore it to that exact spec.

That lab guy's mustache has to be fake. The printer was talkative enough to give away the location of his shop. Duh. Sharp printer...had all his bases covered. gave Matthews all the right answers.Oops! So, giving Mattthews the book sample was not so sharp for the printer to do. The patrolman in civilian clothes acts like a robot.

The location filming adds to the realism and appeal of these episodes. Small towns in Southern California during the mid to late 1950's. Business districts, local traffic, neighborhood post offices, banks and drug stores. Cool.

Love these old show and the cars in them. At about 24:35 (and a second or two after), Matthews tries to duck an already fired bullet. You'd have to react quickly for that. No doubt, that a lot of shows wherein guns are fired, the actors do the same thing. Still, it's a great old show.

The cars, I know. This one has them all. The sloping rear fenders, the regular ones, like the '56 Ford, to the Plymouth with the big ole wings. I remember them all. But I grew up in a place where people bought one vehicle, and stuck with it for life. #Appalachian Area.

They never did it that way, the location sound was always thrown away and a sound effects artist (known as "Foley artist" in USA) added sound after, back in the studio. You hear typical low budget TV sound artist mistakes continually in Highway Patrol episodes - such as car tire squealing on dirt roads, tie squealing without wheel spin. I don't think Foxeema was that devious.

Hard to believe Broderick Crawford was only about 47 years old in this episode. He could easily pass for 60 or 65. I just turned 64 and he could be my son at 47. But the irony is that he looks 20 years older than me so people would think I was his son haha!

The old cars are definitely nice looking but they are not nearly as safe as modern cars. You can purchase one quite cheap, but they do break down a lot and parts can often be quite expensive, which is probably why you don't see very many on the roads these days even out West.

Broderick Crawford was a fine actor and had a strong screen presence. It is rather hard to accept that, at the time of this production, he was only in his early forties. It should go without saying, however, that not all of us age gracefully, and Crawford should be commended - and remembered - for his considerable body of work as an actor.

REALLY enjoyed this episode, particularly the first 10 minutes or so. Interesting to watch police procedure in dealing with 'questioned documents', and the way Dan comes to conclusions about how the criminals will behave in future. Yeah, I KNOW the show's been scripted, but it's a change from his usual cases. 'Well done' the scriptwriters. Just wondered if this REALLY is a job for the Highway Patrol, though. Shouldn't they be issuing parking tickets or going on chases?

7:58 Funny to see Crawford driving on a main thoughfare in the city. His license was revoked for to many DUI's. That's why the majority of scenes of him driving were in isolated area's. CHP was alerted every time he was on location filming. Notice the curb strike at 8:12

Counterfeit money is Secret Service. Check forgery is local or state. Apparently the CHP does that and kidnapping, art theft, bank robbery, terrorism investigations, and everything else.

Yeah, I've probably watched fifteen or so at this point, and still haven't seen one where they handle anything "highway related".
