I particularly liked Bill Boyett, who had a long, distinguished acting career in supporting TV roles ... such as Malloy's and Reed's watch commander, Sgt. MacDonald, on ADAM-12.

Back in the old days, small town America, they had universal checks that you could use if you didn't have any cash, or checks with your name printed on them. I can remember my dad using one once, and even wrote it out to the local merchant, using a pencil! Of course it wouldn't work if they didn't know you.

. Yeah, they didn't drive as well or last as long as today's cars, but they were beautiful cars. Very stylish. I'm 66, so I can remember when cars with tail fin's and flashy chrome were still on the road. They were still seen into the early 70's even. My family still had a 1959 Buick in 1972. But my mom sold it for $200 because it had problems and was becoming a junker.

One of the joys of this series for me is finding the locations of the various buildings (houses, stores, banks, etc) used and comparing the location today via Google street view. Great to see some buildings still extant, although the businesses have usually long gone. One example is the Nonpareil Printing Company at 1117 N Las Palmas Ave LA -- building is still standing but no business evident there for many years.

Clint Eastwood was in an episode too. Back in the 1950's before Rawhide, most people in Hollywood doubted Clint would amount to anything and Universal Pictures didn't renew the contract Clint signed with them in 1955 telling Clint he was in the wrong profession and his Adams apple was too big to work in movies and TV shows. They suggested he give up acting and find something else. I wonder what they thought when Clint became as big as John Wayne and Gary Cooper??

Love these old show and the cars in them. At about 24:35 (and a second or two after), Matthews tries to duck an already fired bullet. You'd have to react quickly for that. No doubt, that a lot of shows wherein guns are fired, the actors do the same thing. Still, it's a great old show.

@@murphynapoleon : What makes you think they used natural scene sound? They never did it that way, the location sound was always thrown away and a sound effects artist (known as "Foley artist" in USA) added sound after, back in the studio. You hear typical low budget TV sound artist mistakes continually in Highway Patrol episodes - such as car tire squealing on dirt roads, tie squealing without wheel spin. I don't think Foxeema was that devious.

Broderick Crawford was a fine actor and had a strong screen presence. It is rather hard to accept that, at the time of this production, he was only in his early forties. Interesting to watch police procedure in dealing with 'questioned documents', and the way Dan comes to conclusions about how the criminals will behave in future. Yeah, I KNOW the show's been scripted, but it's a change from his usual cases. 'Well done' the scriptwriters. Just wondered if this REALLY is a job for the Highway Patrol, though. Shouldn't they be issuing parking tickets or going on chases?

In books chronicling the series they apparently used the Thousand Oaks-Simi Valley area a lot. All of those roads that have curbs but nothing built on them are all houses now.

7:58 Funny to see Crawford driving on a main thoughfare in the city. His license was revoked for to many DUI's. That's why the majority of scenes of him driving were in isolated area's. CHP was alerted every time he was on location filming. Notice the curb strike at 8:12

Counterfeit money is Secret Service. Check forgery is local or state. Apparently the CHP does that and kidnapping, art theft, bank robbery, terrorism investigations, and everything else.
