Considering when this was produced, excellent on three points in particular. 1) Meshing model with real life stock footage. 2) Use of the heat wave effect to add realism to the scenes. 3) Proper perspective and good use of camera angles on flyovers.

Nobody did model effects and especially "flying" models on stage as economical as the Japanese. As a model builder and SFX supervisor around 1980 I looked on with envy to what came out of Japan, because I knew if we did it we would certainly use our motion control rig for all this work, so it A. would take us ages and B. cost a small fortune to do all the opticals.

The shadows really convey a sense of mass. I think I watched this on an early morning Saturday.

@@B-A-L No one doubts Gary Anderson's work and how far its influence reached, but at some point the Japanese simply did it better. Larger models, more dynamic and complicated camera movements and more refined pyro effects.
Bonjour!
Thanks youtube for randomly recommending this I had a blast watching

@@vincentvergelsercedillo7382 Looks like "Ultraman 80" - I've never seen it myself but UGM as the name of the organization fortunately made it easy to google. I must admit, the models and motion technique surely have their own charm!
i still have my toys of these from my miss spent youth - the large ship (missing some of the missiles, but have the contingent of small craft that came with it. lived in Japan in my youth, watched the show in Japanese - not understanding it, but able to follow along and then would go into Tokyo and purchase toys at what we always referred to as "the Dove Store" as it had a giant dove as the logo. i was -5-6 years old and there was a single English channel (AFN) and the local broadcast, the Japanese shows were so amazing.
Oh my! They certainly give the original Thunderbirds with their Supermarionation a run for their money. It would have been wonderful to see these TV programs translated to English and available to watch on Cable TV or Sky or something! Brilliant stuff - I’m hooked!

Well done! I'm kinda having flashbacks to sunday mornings as a kid watching the old godzilla and monster movies with my mom back in the day. Thank you for the good memories :)
I had never heard of this, but I'm glad KZbin showed it to me. It's cute as a button and obviously made with love. I feel the same way about Gerry and Sylvia Anderson's work.
The Japanese are great a producing Models and special effects despite the fact that they don't have the budgets that America film has, despite fact that it at times often shows they are working with small budgets, they still look great and awesome. Just goes to show how talent and creative can shine through despite lower budgets.

Landing gear technology must have really improved with giant aircraft on those tiny wheels but awesome looking nonetheless I just love this kind of stuff
