I am glad you are calling attention to the Rohingya crisis, what's happening to these people is inhumane and it's even crazier to see how little international attention there is to their situation. I really hope the international community can work together to help
@sufimuslimlion41144 жыл бұрын
Ok but the international community won’t do a single thing and has not done anything...., so you can keep hoping and wishing all u want but it won’t happen and her “calling attention” accomplishes nothing and will helps no one. This Muslim sister either is really naive, gullible, idealistic and childish or she just doesn’t actually care at all about the people dying. She just thinks it’s a nice trend to pretend ur helping a cause. L

"So if I walk through airport security with pants on head..." LOL Tazzy, I'm rolling. I used to produce videos for major media companies and ran into this issue of representation. The only stories they wanted were on hijab (stripped of its religious connotations, might I add), as if that's all Muslim women are. You're absolutely right, we need to tell stories that speak to Muslim women, not just for non-Muslims to humanize Muslim women. Yes, both are important and, yes, hijab should be represented but there are just so many complexities of our lived realities that get lost. And that's why I really appreciate all the effort you make to bright light to them! Thank you and may Allah reward you for your efforts.

Thanks for the informative links. Your thesis is spot on. As an black woman I can vividly remember having to water down certain traits from my hair to my opinions in school just for my peers/friends to accept me.

Its not fair that you and many other people had to change who you were just to be accepted. I hope one day people will be accepted on the strength of their good characters and not their ethnicity or anything else that shouldn't be criticised.

♥️That is so true. People do not try to understand muslims. When they get to know one, they say "you are so different from the other muslims" and then, I think "who are the other muslims? I am the only one you know". They believe those stereotypes and won't accept the fact that all muslims come in different shapes and sizes. Many people probably do not know why Halima quit. Some maybe assumed that she went back to her oppressed role at home. No! People won't understand that they are the ones who oppress. I prefer preserving myself at home and being free than being forced into molds to represent something I am not. We were also more free when we had no representatives. We decided ourselves how we want to be and how we want to look like. Our representatives were not forged but real muslim women like Hz. Khadijah, but when the media shows us role models, they prescribe us how we should be. I love the freedom my religion gives me, but I hate that people are trying to take my freedom away by showing me what I should be or look like and by oppressing me when I deviate from their expectations.
@ifra994 жыл бұрын
We need to shift our mentality from thinking of the hijab as a crutch to genuinely feeling empowered by it. How can following the command of Allah EVER hold you back from success! Representation won’t be such a big deal then. We’ll allow ourselves to be inspired by more than a hijab-wearing lady because that’s not our only identity.

Thank you for posting this. Recently, I have been looking at different crises in the world. It makes me so frustrated to see that the media doesn't take the time to address what's happening to these communities. They keep ignoring what is going on. On a different note, I appreciated your commentary on fashion. Growing up, I also looked towards fashion magazines to see how to style outfits modestly.

Always love the fashion industry too but the facts that am a Muslim really discouraged me in high school where most of my friends aren't so when giving them the fashion advice I can't follow because I can't wear the type of dresses and all.. After high school and I got a phone then opened an Instagram account I was soo happy to see Muslim people in the fashion industry then noticed most of them also doesn't wear exactly cloth that my dad would accept me wearing,.. Was very happy when halima came out and rebuked the fashion industry because it's just showed exactly what have been telling people about Muslim and our representation in the fashion world 👏🏾

5:58 Tazzy are 100% right. To a big company you are just a consumer. Now society has changed and suddenly they want to go along with the trend of ''acceptance''. We should all unite to fight against injustice, and now allow companies to highjack our struggle.

Hey Tazzy, Firstly, amazing video, great quality and editing as always and a fantastic message behind it. I was actually wondering what my own stance on this whole thing was. Like it sucks we have no decent representation in the media, in fashion e.t.c because it always gets twisted somehow to fit their criteria of what's "popular" or whatever. I was even going to write about it to bring this to light but something you mentioned has been bugging me too. Do we even need representation? Or does it matter whether we have it or not. I think yes and no. Yes because we do need Muslim leaders and role models in prominent roles to be good examples of what a muslim is. But also no because the idea of Islam has always been strange as the hadith says and not eveyone will be willing to accept it or even try to understand it. People will always force their input in it and fashion it to their liking so they can make money out of it like you said. So I have come to the conclusion that the repesentitives we need can be whatever they want to be as long as their fame and wealth is not made out of the religion, rather what they are good at. As long as they are proud of their identity no one can bother them. Great examples would be famous athletes such as Khabib Nurmagomedov, Mohammed Ali and Ibtihaj Muhammad. So long as we never give them access to our faith so that they can profit from it we will flourish. Good on Halima for taking that step and becoming a good role model for young muslims everywhere.

I have always thought the fashion industry is rather superflous and as you said superficial. I don't generally follow news about it. I feel sorry for any good people still in it who are trying to improve it. and those daft or uninformed enough to be influenced by its every whim. I am not surprised to hear this news. I had hoped that the fashion industry would change for the better. I don't think its especially friendly to people who don't believe in not flaunting themselves or being immodest. A lot of it offends my Religious sensibilities although not a Muslim too. So I am not surprised . sadly that it wouldn't accommodate itself to a practicing Muslim. The problem I am guessing: as well as its' need to make money; is the views of the people in the industry who influence and accept the most flagrantly provocative and immodest designs and those who encourage it. Both inside and outside of the industry, and people who accept fashions every change, and follow and buy it without thinking. /People who criticise people based only what they wear don't know what really matters./ Do people have any idea how many tonnes of clothing gets put in land-fill, -an unbelievable horrendously damaging amount. (When it was shown by a presenter on tv in the U.K The presenter had permission to fill an area of a shopping centre with clothes and explain that it was the amount wasted in a certain amount of time in the U.k. and how much it all added up to. Ordinary shoppers were horrified by what they learned. The clothes, most of them were given to people who really couldn't afford them, and the whole fashion industry problem explained by that presenter. several years ago. It was very shocking, but not something I hadn't wondered about. Sadly I don't recall the exact details of the programme the male presenter was in or the exact figures mentioned but it is probably online somewhere) and Most of it in landfill degrades into toxic non recyclable waste. WHY doesn't it ALL, not just some of it get broken down no matter how difficult to do and get remade into useful stuff. (ok some does but not nearly enough,) and its not only the fashion industry. There are so many parts of modern life where people have just lost sight of what is really important. Good video it raises lots of good questions. I hope there will be some good answers now and in the future. A person should stick to being the best possible human being they can possibly be. Thinking seriously about the questions you raise would be one way of in part doing that Muslim or not. Thankyou for not posting another unimportant video or you tube post like many in social media seem to be nowadays.
