I don't know. I mean, Jagex *clearly knew* what happened. They obviously tried to mitigate the damage by banning the respective players. But to not even try to remedy the damage and simply giving back her items as a show of gratitude that she's been playing their own game... which is the least of all to do, just goes to show that Jagex didn't really ever consider players playing their game a high priority. That feels like they couldn't give two cents about her despite the importance of her character. Maybe it was foreshadowing the current state of the game.
@Xazamas Жыл бұрын
This is all "alleged" so take it with several heaps of salt.... 1. Jagex didn't restore anything to Chessy018 because they assumed she would just RMT them, out of fear that somebody would just hack her again. 2. Entire reason the hack was possible is that they had someone from 3rd party "rent a worker" -agency handle customer support. He was given insufficient onboarding and gave hackers access to Chessy018 account on his first day at the job. When hack was discovered, Jagex had security escort him out of the office. This would explain why multiple recovery attempts failed as supposed, but final one (without any new information, allegedly) went through.

I was a noob back then, so I joined her clan to make money. Since I was a young kid i didnt know how it worked at the time, but it was a pyramid scheme. She and her close friends would buy up an item, then post the name of it as her channel name when they amassed a big enough stockpile. After that the clan would try to quickly buy up as much as this item as they could while Chessy and her friends would sell this item during the panic buying to make triple or 3x profit. They would then move onto new items and repeat this weekly, while the noobs in the chat, like me, who didn't know any better were left bag holding with the previous item crashing below the original price.

@@quarreneverett4767 While it may, or may not apply to this case: I tend to notice Jagex is really reluctant to refund or return items in general. Which to me smells like an ancient policy from the days when they had no proper backend logs to determine what was going on, and password/account sharing - trust trading - etc was incredibly common. Now that they have modern systems where everything we do in game is basically logged and can be studied in the data (should one simply know how to do so), I see no real reason they cannot start actually returning items and coin in cases where it's completely clear as day you had a completely innocent party get hit by a malicious actor. Cause they seem to still by proxy of this ancient policy partially treat being hit by a malicious actor as the fault of the victim, and while they are more than willing to investigate in order to dish out penalties, they seem to still not like the idea of returning items, or stolen gold. Unless it's something big like one of their own employees does dirty stuff. Which links up nicely to them lacking a proper customer support team for other issues than billing - though as I recall, they are in the process of forming one at last.

I had about 120m gp in my bank, and then the next day, when I signed into my account, it was all gone, but nothing else was gone, just my gp. I tried to contact Jagex about it but could never get in touch with them. Just an automatic message. I also had a PIN set. But after that happened, I gave up on osrs and started playing rs3, and I like it better for some reason.

Jagex security was very weak at this time. I lost two of my accounts, no keylogging, or dodgy site visiting, none of the passes had been typed anywhere for years. I wasn't public about any of my information. All they knew was the day they were made. That was enough for some members of the recovery team, and thanks to the top 2000 list, everyone could guess when. I got one back, thieves got it back, repeated 3 times. Then I managed to talk to someone direct who blocked them. Trying to brute force first 2000 accounts was considered ok by quite a lot of jerks.

Yeah some of my old RS friends had a method to gaining early accounts. Skill names, 1 letter names, rares for days. They made thousands irl when they sold years later.

This is so weird... this all happened in RS3. seeing these acted scenes in oldschool runescape gives me the feeling of the old RS3 😂

I got hacked once in 2006, luckily I had a bank pin and recovery questions so after 6 hours the hacker got booted off the account and never made it into my bank, and I was training hunter at the time so all they could do was steal my feathers from hunting lol

My account was hacked once. I had worked for many months towards getting 2M and bought my first Dragon weapon, a 2h Dragon Sword. It was amazing, i was so happy and was killing stuff so fast and easily, then i got hacked and i quit the game for like 2 years. Twas the greatest injustice i had ever lived through. I came back obviously and kept playing, now 2m is pocket change.

During the time of her hi-jacking, she was already a CEO/Founder of an online company (which now has amassed more than what she lost) -- She is extremely successful and likely has this game to thank because of it.

Jamflex should have returned her items and put more effort into the account bans for the hijackers. You'd think a company with such a successful game would make less and less mistakes, but they have only became more unstable. It's so amazing how often they mess up big
@javabeanz85492 жыл бұрын
hmm, I was kind of feeling that way this morning, when they released an update, and within a few hours, there was another update, and from what I can tell, OSRS servers were offline for about 90 minutes.

I was HUGE into merching dragon bones before GE. I was making millions (back when 1mil was a lot of money) The GE killed everything when it now had a set 'official' number on what the item was worth. Items were hard to come by before the GE which gave a lot of play with buying/selling them.
