Comment reminded me when we needed to read a book, make a kinda overview of it in front of class and read important section of it. I chose Parfyme from the books there was available because I knew there was a movie of it that came out like few years ago and I watched it the evening of the presentation, speedread few reviews on the book, looked from forums what differs in the movie adaptation and book, wrote at night a summary based on all of that. Some of my own toughts from the movie parts I knew where in the book mixed with parts from the book reviews that went into more on the literary side, but ofcourse changed it into my own words. Chose the part to read pretty much in random just skimming thru into a part that sounded like a deep convo was happening, because I didn't want to take some key moment from the plot (I read it first time really paying attention in front of the class 😅). I got pretty good grade from it, my friends had hard time beleaving I didn't at all read the book since the teacher just was ultra-strickt and looking signs of deception. The key in front of class kinda is to not look too nervous but almost trick yourelf into thinking that you did do the assignment the legit way so it doesn't look suspicious by being overtly on edge. Not saying it's really something to do. This was years ago when I was in college. Just something I did.

Mind you, sure he could beat plenty of AI, as plenty of people do as there are plenty of AI designed to make mistakes and play at certain levels. But, if you’re trying to say that he could beat today & future AI, which were designed to win. That’s not happening. Remember, Chess like other skills have improved over time, as skills and knowledge get past down from one generation to the next, meaning that AI which play millions of games and have Perfect Memory, and that are so much more efficient at problem solving where all the variables can be account for, but another factor is psychological, which AI will never have an issue with getting distracted, feeling intimidated, stressed and so on. What humans hate over AI are things like instincts, or intimidating, being able to guess what actions your opponent will take, based on knowing their habits/previous games. But, this won’t apply in regards to playing against an AI. Unless, you find a bug, or a way to crash it. Which I do feel like AI if they crash, or get bugged should end in a loss. Because Humans are punished similarly.

He says Kh8 was the move he was most expecting, but this move is a mistake, why would he expect a mistake? Then he says Nc5 was "obviously a bad move" when it's the top engine move! On the g5 variation (which he suggests instead of nc5, even though it's much weaker) he says "even h4 is a move here" but in fact h4 is a massive blunder. Then he thinks the follow up after h4 is gxf4 when that again is another blunder (there is only one good move, which Alejandro points out, is Bxd6, which gives black a winning position). As Hikaru said, everything Hans says here is wrong, but he says it with such smug arrogance. Typical of a teenager, but not typical of someone who has earned a 2700 rating.

wow this analysis is REALLY bad by Hans. I'm only 2200 FIDE and I can tell this isn't right. While a piece sac might be justified it's not overwhelming as he keeps trying to state. Simple moves like Qc5+ and BD8 as pointed out in the video seem hard to address for white and could just be losing. he says "Just h4-h5" yeah but your opponent isn't going to just sit there. Black can always place his k on h7 the h file has no rooks since white castled. NOw to be fair it could just be nerves because the world is accusing him of cheating but he played a computer move (Qg3) which is not at all obvious and rather than show the analysis any strong player would need to show to justify the piece sac he just says "well obviously this is just winning". That's SUPER sus. Why? Because when a player plays a brilliant move like this they are usually chomping at the bit to explain their reasoning. Here he doesn't even want to go over the lines.

I know I’m a few months late to the party, but here’s my take on it. Hikaru is correct. This is not 2700 level analysis. I’m 2400 OTB, and this isn’t even 2400 level analysis. Look, in order to be a good chess player, you need to know how to evaluate a position accurately. And while this position is rather complicated, you should be able to see what works and what doesn’t. One of the things that surprised me most is that Hans confidently asserted that he was better after 1. Bh6 g6 2. f4?. Their analysis continued as follows: 2. …Qe7 3. Bg5 Qc5+ 4. Kh2 Bd8 5. Bh6 Re8. And Hikaru assessed, again, correctly, that black was clearly winning. Now, why is black winning? Simply put, there’s no breakthrough on the kingside. How do you get in? 6. h4 (hoping for h5) doesn’t work because it runs into 6. …Kh7. White has to trade off the bishops and is slowly starting to lose pieces with which to attack. There’s nothing for white. And I don’t see much of another way in, other than to try to force in the move e6 by playing 6. Bd2. And you might ask, “Well, how does that help force the move e6?” Patience, grasshopper. I’m getting there. See, e6 would be great for white, but there’s one small problem. It’s illegal. You can’t push a pawn into a bishop. You’re not ChatGPT. So, you need to find a way to trade off the light square bishops. That way, you eliminate the light square blockade that black has. Let’s take, for example, a variation that goes 6. Bd2 Nb6 7. Bg4 Bxg4 8. Qxg4 Qe7 (rerouting another piece to defend) 9. e6 Bc7 (or even just Kh7, both moves should be okay) 10. Bg5 f6 11. Bh4 Kg7. Yeah, defense might be a little uncomfortable at first, but black should be completely winning. There’s nothing concrete for white. If I had to instinctively evaluate the position, I’d say it seems like -2.5. I might be wrong. Computers tend to find crazy defensive measures, so they might even evaluate it more heavily in black’s favor. But also, you don’t even have to play into the trade with 6. …Nb6. I think I would just play 6. …Kh7 and try to force some pieces off immediately. Black just has a very comfortable endgame. And that’s just one of many ways where Hans’ analysis on his own game went wrong. Again, I stress, this is his own game. You should have a better idea of what’s going on in your own game. I honestly don’t understand what’s going on with Niemann. Why on earth can’t he just give a straight answer in his analysis. It seems to be masked with this overwhelming cockiness. Like, speaking really fast through a variation instead of walking everyone through it, and masking it with this air of, “If you can’t see that this is just good for me, you’re wrong.” When I watch this poor analysis, all I see is some cocky, scared shitless kid. (Heh. Funny for me to call him a kid, considering I’m a year younger, but I suppose his demeanor betrays his inner childishness.) The thing I don’t understand is just that if he’s capable of beating some of the best players in the world (Carlsen, Aronian, Liren, Giri, Le Quang Liem), then how come he can’t explain how he did it. All the other players can do it. Maybe that’s because they actually know how to play chess. It seems to me there are two possible answers. Let’s first rule out that this wasn’t just nerves or some freak coincidence that he couldn’t evaluate this position properly. This same thing has happened multiple other times on his part. When coincidence piles up like that, it becomes evidence. Now, the two possible answers are that he either gets struck with some divine inspiration every time he plays a game such that he can never quite explain himself after the fact, or, and brace yourself, because this is a wild and unforeseen answer, he’s a cheater. Now, I’ll ask you, which of those two possibilities is more likely? I’m going with he’s a cheater for $500, Alex. The thing about cheating is that you can never really hide it forever. Sooner or later, you’re going to run into people who know all the signs of a cheater. It was a masterful performance by Niemann while it lasted, though.

@DB-COOPER, the only reason I feel comfortable even saying it is because this is basically just an anonymous KZbin account. I would never publicly voice my real opinion on an account that could actually be linked to me. Now, do I think that Niemann is a strong player even without an engine? Yes. Absolutely. But do I think he cheats, even OTB? Also yes. I have very little doubt of that.

@@vyrtilanyrwen3071 I respect your opinion, but let's look at what's occurred since the cheating controversy. Firstly, Niemann is going to be under massive scrutiny. It would be a fairly remarkable accusation to suggest that he has cheated OTB since the Carlsen game, which was now 10 months ago. In that time, in 2022 he gained 10.8 points in October, he gained 0.1 points in November, and he lost 0.5 points in December. In 2023, he gained 7.7 points in January (to top 2700), and he gained 2 points in May. At this point, he had played numerous tournaments, many OTB games, and was rated 2704 and 31st in the world. Since then, he has lost some points, but he is still rated at 2674. I should also mention that he has played some OTB blitz, and gained 10.4 points this month, climbing to 2628. That blitz rating would be indicative of a very strong player, and it's almost inconceivable that he cheated in OTB blitz. It's difficult to imagine how this would even happen, not that there is any actual evidence that he has ever cheated OTB. What you see from his results is simply the performances of a world-class player, who is a bit below the elite. It's exactly what he would he would and should be considered without the Carlsen stuff. There is still zero evidence that he has ever cheated OTB, and for nearly a year since this accusation was made, he has maintained the rating of a high-2600 / low-2700, elite level, borderline super GM chess player. I think at that point we can reasonably conclude that this is exactly what he is, particularly as the OTB cheating allegations are completely unproven, and, therefore, I would say, spurious.

Any GM let alone a super GM can analyze positions like this in their sleep -- compare this to Ding Liren's casual analysis on a bus (kzbin.info/www/bejne/aKLNZpejj96EfJY&ab_channel=ChessBaseIndia). Okay here's every line stated by Hans or Hikaru, i ran this with Stockfish 15 with really high depth. Question from Alejandro: After QG3 and D takes C4 (Top engine move) what is the continuation. Hans : Bishop takes h6 and g6 (Both top engine moves) Now hans says a weird move with Pawn to f4. There was 3 moves after this that was +1 for black Hikaru: "After Qc5 check then bd8 (2nd best move recommended by the engine) and there's also bb6 (3rd best engine move). Alejandro: What do you do after bd8? Hans: bh6 (3rd best move, but it's now +3 for black) Hikaru: I think black is actually winning here after re8 btw ( Re8 top engine move at any depth, This is indeed true) Hikaru correct lines (so far): 1 Hans lines (so far): 0 Alejandro now moves on to a line with a move that Alireza played in the game kh8 after Qg3. Hans: After knight d6 (Top engine move) and instead of knight c5 (that was played by alireza) there's pawn to G5 here. Hikaru: G5?!?!? What? Now hikaru saw G5 and didn't seem to like this move, but this is actually the top engine move and is +1.5 for white. Hans: Even h4 is a move here. (h4 is actually a blunder bc of bishop now takes the knight on d6 and is winning) Hans: Now takes takes (Pawn takes the bishop on f4 and queen takes the pawn back) Side note: This position is now drawish with perfect play according to the engine and white has lost all advantage. Hans: Then Kg7 and rook d3 (Both top engine moves) and rook h8 (2nd best move for black and now white has a +6 advantage) Hikaru: I think blacks winning again! Interesting this time hika is wrong Engine gives this position + 0.6 for white. Not embarassing as +3 but he said blacks winning when it was slightly winning for white. Hans false lines:1 Hika false lines: 1 Now Peter (Another GM and commentator of the broadcast) informs Alejandro that the earlier line with pawn to h4, Bishop takes knight is winning. And Hans realises it too. Interestingly now corrects it with be3 Hans: be3 instead of h4 ( be3 is the 2nd best engine move) h4 was a blunder. Alejandro now again moves on to the move Alireza played in the game which was knight to c5 and continues throughout the moves and hans came up with a new line Hans: Instead of rook e3 (a move hans played in game) now bishop e5 (re3 3rd best engine move, be5 best engine move). Then Queen c5 (for black) and Rook g4 (Both top engine moves). Hans then states multiple lines he was thinking during the game Hans: I thought i was smart bc If bishop takes the rook on g4, pawn to f4. (Bishop g4 is actually the 2nd best engine move but is completely losing for black, and f4 is the top engine move trapping the queen) Hans: but then i realised he has qc1 check (top engine move), and kh2 (only move). I then thought of bg7 (Terrible move +6 for black) and F4 here (+5 for black after qd1... Glad these were just thoughts) New line was presented again Hans: instead of bd3 now be3 (Interesting from inaccuracy to the best engine move and keeping his +1.3 advantage) i missed the queen c1 idea and paid the preice Alejandro: you managed to hold on to a draw Hans: I definitely wasn't the one holding on even after re3 i should still have some advantage right? Hikaru: haha no you can't objectively evaluate an endgame Hans was technically right he had 0.1 advantage according to stockfis (engine wasn't on for the analysis during this line btw) Another new line Hans: C4 instead of G4 (C4 is an inaccuracy, g4 is the 3rd best move but still a losing one) Hikaru: C6 you're never better after b6 (inaccuracy according to engine it had 3 move advantages but now it's draw) *Alejandro gets b6 at the board after c6 Hans: rb3 (2nd best move) and then rb8 for black (3rd best move), bishiop h6 (best and only move that keeps advantage) Hikaru: There's rook e6, d7, rook d8 (Now big hika made a big oopsie here... e6 loses advantage bc rb6 and d7 is not a move, it's a big blunder of -2 for the elo, rd8 is the only move in that line) Final note: Hikaru laughs bc the elo is winning for black, however apparently the best move is rook e4, takes takes on b6 and then d7 and KH7?!?! you let white promote and have 2 queens without taking it apparently and it's still winning for black with perfect play, ridiculous, not as embarrassing for hans tbh.

i felt vulnerable, and "naked" just by listening to him. It feels like either he had some divine inspiration at the time and forgot with lucidity to replay the inspirational moment,if you know what i mean. it's like when you are inspired and in the moment you create something amazing and when you get sober form the moment you just feel like someone else did it for you....but this is so fishy

I mean sure, it's possible the chess gods possessed his body and gave him an unheard of brilliance that he is unable to explain himself or... He probably just cheated.

Has Hikaru ever listened to himself? It's largely because he can't be arsed to try but some of his commentary on his own play when he is streaming is abysmal too.
