Duck Chess unfortunately gives a very unfair advantage to white. White while being allowed to make any first move in their opening has the ability to limits blacks own posssible derfenses to it, by limiting blacks first move. Giving white an even bigger advantage than what they have in standard chess. I believe in order to even this out more black should be able to place the duck down before white makes their first move. That way black at least is able to limit whites opening a little bit since right after their possibole good defenses will be far more limited.

Below are some mating pattern changes from traditional chess to duck chess that I noticed. Most of the names are from Wikipedia. Someone please upvote this. 1. Back rank checkmate: can be blocked with the Duck 2. Assisted checkmate (White Qg7; Black Kg8): unless the Qg7 is guarded by a Pawn, Knight, King, melee Rook, melee Bishop (e.g Rf7 or Bf6) it is not checkmate since Kxg7 followed by a Duck block is possible. 3. Mate on h-file or a-file by Rook/Queen: can be blocked with the Duck. 4. Ladder mate (White Kg1, Rh7, Ra8; Black Ke8): Black can block check with the Duck. 5. Smother checkmate (White Kg1, Nf7; Black Kh8, Rg8, h7, Bg7): still checkmate if this position can be reached. The classic Queen & Knight combo can be ducked after the double check. 6. Suffocation checkmate (White Kg1, Nh6, Bb2; Black Kg8, Rf8, h7, g6): Black has Kh8 or Kg7 then Duck block the Bishop. 7. Opera checkmate (White Kg1, Bg5, Rd8, Black Ke8, f7): Black can take the Rook and then block the Bishop with the Duck. 8. Arabian checkmate (White Kg1, Nf6, Rh7; Black Kh8): still checkmate 9. Hook checkmate (White Kg1, f5, Ng6, Qf8; Black Kf7): still checkmate. If White has a Rook instead of a Queen on f8, and Black has an additional pawn on g7, it is still checkmate. 10. Vulkovic checkmate (White Kg1, Re7, Ne6; Black Ke8): similar to #2, unless the Rook on e7 is guarded by a Pawn, Knight, King, melee Rook, melee Bishop, melee Queen (e.g. Qf6), it is not checkmate. 11. Blindswine checkmate (White Kg1, Rh7, Rg7; Black Kg8, Rf8): still checkmate if this position can be reached. The Rook swing that normally leads to this mate can be ducked. 12. Anastasia's mate: Similar to #3, the Rook can be ducked. 13. Boden's mate (White Kg1, Ba6, Bf4; Black Kc8, Rd8, d7): either Bishop can be ducked. 14. Pillsbury checkmate (White Kf1, Rg1, Bf6; Black Kg8, Rf8, f7, h7): Black can block the check with the duck. 15. Reti mate (White Kg1, Rd1, Bd8; Black Kc7, Bc8, Nb8, c6, b7): Black can take the Bishop then duck the Rook. 16. Lolli checkmate: Similar to #2, this is checkmate. 17. Two Pawns checkmate (White d7, c7; Black Kd8): this is checkmate unless either of the pawn are long-range defended or not defended. 18. "Sniper" checkmate (White Kg1, Bb2, Rh8; Black Kg7, Bf7, g6): Black can take the Rook then Duck block the Bishop. 19. "Two Prince" checkmate (refers to Prince and Dark Prince in Clash Royale) (White Kg1, Ra7, Nd6, Ne6; Black Kd8): Black has Kd7 then Duck block the Rook. 20. "Frozen" checkmate (refers to Elsa and her horse Nokk in Frozen II) (White Kg1, Qc8, Nf5, Black Ke7, f7, f6): Black has Kf8 then Duck block the Queen.

I like this game mode. A quick tip: since your oponent has to move the duck you can place it somewhere you don't want your oponent to block next turn if you don't have a strategy with it. Of course it does tell your oppnent your intentions, but that's why I'm loving this game mode.

There isn't check nor checkmate in duck chess so if your opponent doesn't realise that their king is attacked you can just simply take it and win
