If Kramnik had bothered to actually look over the games in question (which Nakamura has posted on his KZbin), I think he would have realized how off the accusation was.

Change the game. A major league hitter goes on a tear where he bats 460 over 35 games---- against minor league pitching. Are we going to accuse him of cheating?
@jacksarkisian
@jacksarkisian 9 ай бұрын
You could take it even further. IM Artur Davtyan is 20 years old, FM Liam Putnam is 15 years old, FM Artin Ashraf is 15 years old, and IM Yagiz Kaan Erdogmus is literally 12 years old. I couldn't find who "Pe0la" was, but those are 4 of 6 people Hikaru faced over the 36 games. Its a Major League hitter batting 460 over 35 games in the little league.

Kramnik keeps ignoring the fact that his data is cherry picked. Dude took the best 0.1% of all of Hikaru's games. Its just like taking billionare's row in manhatten and concluding that represents all of humanity. It does not.

"Less than 1% probability". It's like he doesn't understand his own data. Hikaru plays thousands of games a year. If he has this kind of performance once in a few hundred days, that aligns nicely with the probability. I was behind Kramnik when he was making the case for rampant cheating in online chess, but to cherry-pick very bad examples and imply cheating on behalf of a top 3 player in the world is just irresponsible and frankly a bit senile.
@jacksarkisian
@jacksarkisian 9 ай бұрын
For reference, its been suggested that Kramnik has also accused GM Oleksandr Bortnyk, GM Denis Lazavik, GM Dmitry Andreikin, GM Jose Martinez and many others of cheating online/OTB as well. To an extent it does feel like if he throws around enough accusations he'll be right about something - I can't see it being this though.
@someone-jl4sj
@someone-jl4sj 9 ай бұрын
I think you missed the part where he said that he has multiple instances of less than 1 percent probability performances. And you also forgot that literal mathematicians are working with him so I believe they must have analysed Hikaru's curve with other players curve.
@jacksarkisian
@jacksarkisian 9 ай бұрын
@@someone-jl4sj When Kramnik publicly states the credibility of the mathematicians he's working with and a full report of their calculations and findings I'd be happy to consider this. If I go to my local police station and tell them my Spanish teacher is Pablo Escobar they'd laugh at me if I didn't back it up with anything.
@someone-jl4sj
@someone-jl4sj 9 ай бұрын
@@jacksarkisian There's a difference though Kramnik didn't go to police nor he said that Hikaru is definitely cheating. All he said was that Hikaru is suspicious along with some other players. And Kramnik also backed it up with some statistics (Not to mention that he said that more statistics will come) But I don't know why some people on the internet along with Hikaru are trying to paint Kramnik as senile and an idiot. Hikaru is not above suspicion or law. And anyone who believes that Hikaru is above suspicion is an actual idiot in my opinion.
@TCSyndicate
@TCSyndicate 9 ай бұрын
@@someone-jl4sj the evidence he's publicized thus far does not justify suspicion. they are perfectly inline with the expected performance of a player at his elo ( when you don't cherry pick ). if kramnik has hidden evidence which justifies this suspicion, he's an idiot for not publicizing it alongside the suspicions themselves. the fact that he called him suspicious, then put forth this evidence strongly suggests he believes the evidence is sufficient to warrant said suspicion, which is incorrect.

When you look at Hikaru adopting hundreds of players, the fact that it was almost 4 in a row is not surprising

Vlad is not senile but extremely paranoid and not thinking objectively. As Levi said, during the games in question, Hikaru farmed the same players over and over which in itself introduces psychological factors that cannot be counted. This is all uneccessary unpleasentness and bad for chess in general...
@xderyck41
@xderyck41 9 ай бұрын
As a math's major, the former champ does not understand statistics, has not paid a mathematician for a proper analysis and most definetly has not looked at the number correctly, Hikaru's excel sheet, even tho simple and may have minor erros, still gives a better estimates than ~vay lower than 1%~ chance and both of them need to factor recency biass, which would it would made it less likely that hikaru cheated, so yeah, really bad take and he clearly did not do his own homework before starting drama
@Tcheera
@Tcheera 9 ай бұрын
I mean usually cheating is more than just selected statistical sections of playing against a few players (none of whom were even GMs let alone SGM level players). And while yes their rating is super inflated online, Hikaru and Magnus for instance are obvious outliers - there's an upper limit since once you get that high there's a massive attrition in gains and your losses tend to be a lot more affecting, so once you get over 3300 it's hard to get much higher than that unless you literally cheat. So their real chess ratings OTB are better indicators of their chess skill since Hikaru is at the upper limit of chess ratings, and since he's so far out in standard deviations away from these other players in blitz ability, it's really NOT that wild for him to do that well. They need to analyze how easy it is to get a 2950 rating at each level vs how hard it is to get a 3300 rating. And then you analyze probabilities that way. And no you don't need to be a chess engine to beat someone that much worse than you in a streak like that. Especially if you watch the games. You just have to be a much faster and better blitz player. His play isn't even close to perfect, and the other players certainly didn't play 2950 COUNTERplay when he blundered (i.e. better than Magnus Carlson real chess rating). So anyone claiming that to beat a 2950 would have to be 3600 doesn't understand statistics at all. And Hikaru isn't a statstician either, but I think most people even who aren't statsticians intuitively have this understanding that someone's high blitz rating online isn't really reflective of a real rating and that nothing has been done to adjust it for real world play, let alone real world probabilities.

Generally I get the feeling Kramnik feels hard done by considering he's a 3 time World Champion, and doesn't have even a fraction of the recognition Hikaru has from streaming. What better way to get people to praise World Champions again by trying to ruin the reputation of anyone that tries to go down the entertainment route. I don't think its a coincidence he's also accused Grandmasters Oleksandr Bortnyk and Jose Martinez (who are also successful streamers).

Who made Kramnik the chess police? despite him only implying cheating and not overtly stating it (which is a coward move) he can still be held legally liable for slander/ defamation of character. Kramnik should just play chess and stfu. unless he is doing this to rattle Hikaru

People forget that chess is a game and not a slot machine or a roulette wheel. It is possible to do stuff in chess that will beat people psychologically that transcend your ELO "strength" or "probability of winning". It is more than possible for a person to be disproportionately better at beating people who are worse than them. Lower than 1% means literally nothing. When it comes to other performances that had a 1 in millions chance, that's a different story.

When you beat someone six times in a row, the probability of winning the next game is higher than the first game. It is absolutely a psychological blow to get blasted for that long when giving full effort

Awesome point, another factor is the difference between player matchups. Just like a strong right handed boxer who isn't as used to fighting the best lefty in the world, their matches could look totally different as a result. By the same token, one player may be the master of a certain opening but a better player can throw them off their preparation on purpose. It happens all the time.

You should have noted that he played all those matches in blitz, against only a few players many times each, with a mid to high 60s accuracy rate, and you can establish many blunders by his opponents which of course is blitz/time related. He is just that much better at blitz compared to those very good opponents, who just aren't as good in that format. Honestly, when you are making rapid fire moves in just a few seconds things are gonna happen. I am a newbie, yet I understand this.
