Utada Hikaru is a musical prodigy. Despite my personal belief she has been robbed of her rightful throne with the "music Big Wigs" of humanity, she has been branded as a music legend in my eyes.

UTADA never seemed like a J-pop artist to me.

She is indeed a legendary queen of JPop, having played a crucial role in boosting the genre's popularity in the late 1990s, much like Namie Amuro and other influential artists of the era.

So Glad she stepped back and reflected on her independence
Love these questions the interviewer put out, and she answered so well!

When you have such a sweet voice like Hikaru Utada then you can make your own rules. Try "Somewhere Near Marseilles," to me it sounds perfect!

Except that that song makes no sense, she's in london he's in paris and they want meet half way, marseille is 700 km the wrong way.

@@adilator Its pop its about the rhythm, if it sounds good enough who cares where marseille is. We are not teaching geography here!

Wow,seems the entertainment business in Japan works exact the same way that Hong Kong does . Entertainers don’t have to take care of anything other than their careers.

Wow I am still in shock about how incredible Utada’s English is! She sounds incredible and hearing more about her story. It’s very sad she identifies as nonbinary, it is not who she is even though she feels like it. How is her son going to take it? Especially if he asks her the question “So if you’re non-binary does that mean I can’t call you mom?” Lord have mercy on the nonsense of pronouns the world is going with.

She was born in New York, and grew up there until she went to stat in Japan in her late teens. Safe to say she has used a great command in English and Japanese growing up. And accdg to her ig, while identified as Non Binary, their profile says she/they.

She can do and feel whatever and however she wants,…. but non binary?! What does that even mean? I have never met hear, but she seems to be the most female woman I have ever listened to. So, I don ´t get it, but I love her music, which is really unique.

She did release some songs in Fantôme that explored more of her LGBTQ side and gave honest commentary about some of the songs like Tomodachi. That was back in 2016. She also released prior songs back then like "You make me want to be a man" almost 20 years ago in which has some nonbinary nuance. She and her son live in the UK in Europe, a continent that is pretty openly good to LGBTQ members, at least from my perspective as a U.S. citizen. Your questioning of her parent status to her son doesn't make sense.

There’s nothing sad about them identifying as nonbinary, mind your own damn business lol. And you, random person on the internet, does not get to dictate who they are! Nonbinary people can still be fathers, mothers, whatever they want to be, that’s why it’s their IDENTITY. Kids are far smarter and more understanding than hard-headed adults like you, he’ll be fine.
