I think your going a little far when you say this has to be stockfish. Have you analyzed it? Hikaru made a lot of mistake man, and im sure he would admit that. It's possible it was stockfish, but highly unlikely.

@@williamjulianelle7781 I have analyzed it. So at least 30 of his moves were Stockfish's top suggestion (it all depends what depth you go to). And there were 47 total White moves, which means that nearly 64% of all his moves were perfect engine moves, including odd ones like 20. Ra2. That move just doesn't make sense from a human perspective because the g pawn is already double protected, and instead he could have developed his Knight. However, the point of Rc2 becomes apparent five moves later when White plays 25. Rc2, which is Stockfish's *second* recommendation. And then on move 37. Stockfish initially recommends Qxd6+, but at higher depth it finds 37. Qh6 which he does play! Lastly, he was banned for cheating.

@@matthewviramontes3131 Yeah, but you have to consider he is a 2700 player MAYBE. So making engine some of the top engine moves over 50% of the time isn't that surprising. He also played some of these moves you claimed stockfish found at a higher depth really really fast. EIther way he I'll agree there's a good chance he used an engine for some of the moves during this game. I would say the fact he was banned for cheating is a big determining factor though for me, which also means it's hard to know the player's true rating.

@@williamjulianelle7781 It actually looked like a pretty human game to me. But the account was closed for fairplay, which means he was using some engine help at least to an extent. Definitely seems like he turned it on at some point, but was playing normally before then. Also keep in mind that the 2700 rating is likely the result of some degree of engine use in the past (likely won't be banned for 1 game of cheating; not enough data to confirm it).

He got banned for cheating though, so I would say that also make's it pretty likely like you said.

One thing, to me the most salient, thing the chess engines or AI have shown us is how bad humans are at chess, even the top Grand Masters. We were very blind to this when GMs play GMs, and no engines were around. Once today's engines and AI came about we can see just how big of a gap there is between an entity is SUPER GOOD at chess and a mere human being GM. No doubt, the rest of us are even way worse at Chess, but the engines have made their point -- The flaws of even the SUPER top GMs are now revealed and are bigger than we ever imagined. It is now more precise to say that in a game of Super GM vs Super GM, or any game in human vs human, the fight is to determine who is less bad than the other player.
