Bushwalkers describe Tasmania's Western Arthur Range as "arguably the wildest and most spectacular part of the south-west.''
Having never visited the range myself I head out on an overnight hike to visit Lake Oberon 'The Gem of the South West' which is roughly located halfway along the range.

Thank you Rob. As older Tasmanians my wife and I are no longer able undertake adventures such as this and because of physical considerations our most adventuresome sojourn was an overnight visit to lake Nameless. Thank you so very much for sharing your research and videos on KZbin. There is so much of our state to see when you leave the car behind.

Hey Rob I ventured out this way in 2020 before lockdown. It was shitty weather but we managed to do the full traverse. I'm painting Lake Oberon at the moment and my photos were very average and few between due to the weather, so your video has been a great help. thanks again.

WOW, what a video!! Definitely my favourite so far which is really saying something as I love them all. The scientific lead in was terrific and the way you captured that timeless landscape has made me want to pull out my hiking boots and do this walk too. Great work soldiering on when you obviously felt like crap. The eagle in the beginning was a real treat 👍🏽🥰

@@Rob.Parsons Well done Rob I'd have to say that seeing the wedge tailed eagle take flight from a tree was a real treat. I have not seen one of those in Tasmania, for years now. They'd have to be one of the most beautiful birds in the wilderness that I can think of.....Pete from Devonport

Great video Robzombie.😂 I would like to see you make a video of catching some footage of the giant freshwater crayfish in Tassie I know your not allowed to trap them but you could take your diving equipment with you and catch some footage on your underwater go pro, that would be wicked. You also could do some prospecting while you were there and you should leave your trail cams on for a few days while you camp and try for some footage of the illusive Tassie 🐅. Just an idea but I haven't seen the giant crayfish yet, I think that they live in the creeks of the far northwest but cause your a local you would probably know exactly where they are. Best of luck friend.🐅🤗

That eagle you seen was a younger wedge tail (highly unseen or photographed ) actually was thought they had been no more living or very few ) but IV seen one up northern Tas that had 1.5m wing span and stood half the height of a paddock fence.

Great video again. Western Arthurs are amongst my best ever hikes. I took a heck of a lot longer to get to Lake Oberon. Glad to see you didn't take your bride. Take a tip from an old bushwalker. Just because she marries you, doesn't mean your wife wants to do the Jane River or the Arthurs.

What an epic place! Love to see it but think I’d need a body transplant to be able to accomplish it! Thanks for sharing

This is on my to do list - maybe in 2023 . What book were you reading at the start? I have the Chapman's & Abels books.

I don'ton't think I have that one. I'm on 29 Tassie books. A new updated Abel book this year and Frenchman's Cap hopefully to add to my list. Cheers.

Fantastic scenery Rob. I noticed a palm like plant growing up in the mountains mate, what the heck is that called? Must be bloody hard as nails growing up there.

Yeah its beautiful up there, mostly stunted vegetation as it snows up there a lot and quartzite makes pretty bad soil but those palm like plants are called Pandanis. Thanks for the comment

You are a walking machine to be able to get in and out in that time. It sure is an amazing location.

I climbed a mountain on NYE too and slept through the clickover into 2022! Oh well, its better being out in the wilderness than among the masses. Spectacular landscape, its on my bucket list. Do you use a gimbal stabilizer? Your shots over the vegetation were fab! Hope you're feeling better.

Thanks Terry what a great way to bring in the new year. No gimbal here, I use a selfie stick for those smooth low shots and shoot in slow mo. I might do a tutorial vid on how I do a lot of my shots, but then again im still learning so maybe not haha. cheers :-)

@@Rob.Parsons worth it though for the awesome views and memories 🙌 I hope you're feeling much better now. Covid hasn't got us but close friends of ours are getting married on Friday and so far there are about 10 people with covid, 2 of which were in the bridal party 😓
