I'll jump in and say an additional cool note about the stromatolites. Because cataract's summit is right next to the "diorite sill" (it's diabase, both magma rocks) the stromatolites are all white because they are lightly cooked by the contact with magma. Not quite a marble, but also not quite a simple limestone!

Thanks for sharing this Jake. Such pretty yellows and reds. Looks tranquil with the clear blue day and the dusting of snow. I’ve not hiked from that direction to Cataract as of yet. So beautiful. Cheers

My sister and I always comment that we go to Glacier and look up and admire the beautiful mountains, and you look up and think "I'm going up there." Beautiful hike!

In August we hiked through Piegan Pass from GTTS to Many Glacier. Jeff side tripped up Cataract Mtn.!! Was a great day of Strong winds. Probably the first time we were ever organized enough to spot cars at both end for a through hike.

That's a great through hike and the trick is, like you said, getting cars on both ends!

Love it, Jake! I was just up there on Sunday doing Gould (I posted a wee video if you're interested) and I was pretty blown away by the vivid fall colors and the contrasting white of the snow up higher. Let's get some miles in together sometime, hit me up!

I just realized that I didn't reply back to this! I don't think that you can comment the link to your Gould video, but shoot it over via my contact page (hike734.com/contact/). Thanks!
