I am a String Lake Volunteer. This past summer was our first stint as a string Laker Volunteer. We witnessed each day of service many individuals going up and returning all gasping as they explained the beauty of the hike. As the summer came to a end I was finally able to make the hike. Prepared and made the trek from the Leigh Lake trail head back to String Lake Trail head. Now I no what they all seen and its was a giant of a feat for this ole 66 yr. old nature lover.

Thank you for passing on love for the outdoors we share. Killer job naming the flora & fauna for us & taking the time & effort to video. Subscribed & thumbs up!

Excellent! While the grander and more scintillating aspects of the hike such as Grand Teton, bears, and moose, are obvious to get excited about, the subtler aspects are (almost) just as fun such as the birds, flowers, and variety of squirrels. Hoping to make more outdoor nerds out there. :D

I did this same hike in 1992 when I worked in Yellowstone. We had a great day, then headed into Jackson to Bubbas for BBQ. Great video, miss the Tetons

This was the first "real" hike I did in the Tetons and to my day, it's still my favorite! Some of the most beautiful view of the Tetons! Did it the same exact way you did! Took us 12 hours! We couldn't help but keep stopping for the views! It's so funny, the quaint little pond at 3:18 is what we thought was Holly Lake! haha so we turned around back to the trail and later as we got higher, we saw the real Holly Lake! If I go back, I will definitely stop at the real Holly Lake.

probably the best trail I've ever done in my life. I enjoyed every second. I want to try the grand Teton loop next time if I have another chance.

Thanks for the trek! It's another one we'd like to add to our trip for next Summer. Pika viewing is a PLUS! Thanks for the reminder about the switchbacks. Always good to remember the short-cuts are not good for anyone (it makes your hike actually harder.) Great hike! Thanks again!

Great video! Really good quality and the views were amazing. Glad you got footage of the bear going the other way! I hiked into Cascade Canyon over the summer and wanted to keep going forever. I was pretty bummed when I had to turn around.

My daughter and I attempted the loop as a three day backpack in mid-July, but there was just too much snow still. It looks like most of it was finally melted for your hike - nice video!.

Hike734 Always the most useful hiking videos. How would you compare the “sketchy footing” of the Divide with the stretch of Dawson Pass to Pitamakin Pass in GNP

I did this hike a couple of years ago. I hiked it exactly how you did it. It is my favorite day hike in the park. A long hike, but worth it with incredible views, especially from Paintbrush Divide. Lake Solitude was stunning. Thanks for posting this! By the way, your link to the blog(above) is not working. I was able to find it by searching.

So...how many hours did it take you guys? What time did you start and finish? I had thought about doing that loop, but since I stop so often to take video and photos I figured I couldn't keep up the necessary pace to do it as a day hike.
@hike734
@hike734 7 жыл бұрын
We stopped quite a bit too, although I'm not sure how everyone's stopping time and hiking pace would be. We registered about 12 hours though.

Great info and video! I'm doing this hike in August. Is it better to do the loop counter-clockwise or clockwise? Or do you think it doesn't matter. Was thinking starting at Jenny Lake and using boat shuttle across at the start to save cpl miles and going clockwise (wouldnt use shuttle at end - my timetable would be 12hrs total as well), but open to info and suggestions. Im not sure how early the shuttle runs and im still planning my hike.
@hike734
@hike734 5 жыл бұрын
I liked the way that we did it, but this loop really could be done either way. I don't think that the boat shuttle will save you any time unless someone is dropping you off at the other trailhead.

Is it possible to hike mount woodring from the area at 4:42 or would it be too steep/dangerous without rock climbing equipment?
@hike734
@hike734 6 жыл бұрын
Mario Birdwell not sure. I didn’t spend enough time looking at it. I would definitely pick up a climbing book and look at some of the summit sites to get some good info on the best way to climb it.

What video camera do you use? Do you carry binoculars? It looks like you get good close ups on the video camera without binoculars. I asked the question about binoculars before you said it in the video. What type are they? At 6:54 is that the most you could zoom in on the moose? I couldn't see it.
@hike734
@hike734 7 жыл бұрын
I use some Zeiss Terra HD 8x42 binos. 8x42 are a pretty standard zoom/lens size for brightness, magnification, and carrying weight. 10x zoom binoculars are harder for birds, but better for bigger animals. The camera that I had for the Tetons was the Panasonic FZ1000. I now use the slightly longer lensed, and newer, FZ2500. The moose was really far away and that was as good as my poor camera could go! If you switch to 4K on KZbin, you may be able to see it a bit better. ;-)

Are the Zeiss Terra ED instead of HD? I couldn't find any HD under Terra. Some companies have hD and ED bins. ED are Extra low Dispersion glass but the hD alone aren't. Maybe they are high density extra low dispersion glass. It's a bit confusing.
@hike734

Blergh... you're right! Yes, they are ED.

Thanks for the feedback (and reminder). I always try and remember, but sometimes I fail to. I'm handholding my camera instead of having it on a tripod.... and trying to hurry so I don't drive my wife completely mad... that being said, I appreciate the reminder!
