It was also Kinder Scout where the mass tresspass took place about 75 years ago. It was this that lead to the right to roam and National Parks. Still to do Kinder myself.

Glad you enjoyed this route, including the wonderful rock formation field known as the woolpacks! It looks like you descended via Ringing Roger, with Grindsbrook Clough to your right. In terms of other routes for Kinder, you can ascend by many different routes. For me, the Cloughs often offer a fun route up with some scrambling sections. Grindsbrook is great, most people keep straight on at the end But the right hand fork provide a nice scramble section. Crowden Clough (between Grindsbrook and Jacobs Ladder offers some very nice scrambling if you stay on it all the way to the top, including a waterfall about 20 to 25 feet high. The William Clough route from Hayfield past Kinder Reservoir is a very pleasant route up to the North Western corner of Kinder. The Northern Edge offers spectacular views across to Bleaklow and Higher Shelf Stones and Derwent Edge. There are many routes and Clough scrambles to ascend and descend it. It’s also much less frequented than the Southern and Western Edges. The plateau itself is very large and can be tricky to navigate, it’s best avoided in wet periods as it turns into a peat bog and there are a lot of peat gruffs (channels in the Peat), some of which are very deep. There is a short plateau crossing from South to North which is known as the 7 minute crossing at the narrowest point. It starts between Great Tor and Nether Tor on the South side and finishes near the top of Blackden Brook on the North Side. It took me about 12 minutes to get across. Great video, really enjoyed it.

😁👍 hi Christine, I've just watched the video and thought you did well doing that particular walk in 5-6 hrs on a hot day. I was wildcamping up on Kinder Scout last weekend but instead of ascending via Jacobs ladder, I took more difficult but direct route up via grindsbrook clough from edale 😁 This walk you did is a good one and can take most of the day to do.. Stunning views as you Assendon and the rock formations along the Kinder skyline are spectacular and the gritstone is surprisingly very grippy unlike the white peak area where the limestone when wet can be tricky underfoot.. I'm off into the peak district in the morning ( very early ) I'm still undecided where to go for a day hike.. On your next visit to the peak district, checkout the many Dale's ie Chee Dale, miller's Dale, monsal Dale, and the stunning padley gorge near Grindleford and the Longshaw estate.. All great for day hikes but arrive early for parking as these are popular areas for visitors.. Then there's other high level walks you could do ranging from Burbage rocks, stannage edge and ladybower and derwent reservoirs.. So many places to visit in the dark and white peaks areas.. Village's, valleys and ridges 😁 Enjoyed your video, glad you had a nice day for it..

Hey Mike 👋 thanks for the lovely comment, really glad you enjoyed the video 😊 It definitely felt like a long 5-6 hours at times with the heat! That sounds incredible & I've heard that route is a little more challenging - good going 👍 Hope you had a good day out this week in the Peaks, where did you end up hiking? And thank you so much for the recommendations, really helpful - I actually did a circular walk from Bamford along the ridge to Ladybower Reservoir which was beautiful, will give the others ago next time 🙌 Have an awesome weekend!

@shefreelyroams hiya Christine 😁 I ended up doing an 8-10 mile circular hike from Robin Hoods Stride and the bronze age stone circle, Stanton Moor and the nine ladies stone circle then on and off the Limestone Way heading back to the car via Alport Bradford , limestone way and Castle Ring. A great day and had everything from ancient oak woodland, gritstone rock formations, a hermits cave, open heathland on stanton Moor,. A quick lunch stop at stanton in the Peak 👍 then on a section of the limestone way through farmland, a national trail and a few steepish hill climbs 😁 I kept stopping all the time to take photos.. in the end it took me 10 hrs the whole route 😁 I don't do KZbin videos, but I follow quite a lot of regulars including yourself as they are inspirational and give me ideas of walks etc 😁👍 all my photos go on Facebook or Instagram if I have a phone signal 🤣😁 Have a great weekend.. I'm at the moment considering a wildcamp now I've finished work 😁🏕

Amazing Mike, sounds like a really varied circular & the perfect way to spend a day outside! Even if 10 hours sounds really long, I’m the same sometimes with losing a lot of time for photography/filming but hey it’s great fun to capture so time we’ll spent 🙌🏻📸 ooo this evenings weather would have been great for a camp, mind the thunderstorms tomorrow though! no outdoor adventures for me this weekend as been ill this week so rest is the priority. Have a good one :)

New to the channel 🙂 Your videos kept coming up as suggested on my homepage and I'm glad I checked them out (new Subscriber now also). It looks like you had a great day up on Kinder, one my my favourite places in the Peak for sure, especially the 'woolpacks' boulder field. It looked very quiet on the day of tor walk, was this mid week? Normaly when I have gone up on a weekend Jacobs ladder is mobbed. Great video, look forwards to watching more.

The Original route up the Pennine Way did not use Jacobs Ladder but followed the stream from the Pub in the Village of Edale then went over the Moors to follow the stream up to and over Kinder Downfall.

@@shefreelyroams Finally found my Pennine Way Companion book and to clarify my route from Edale was the footpath down the side of the PUB to GRINDSLOW HOUSE, then follow the track/footpath until you connect with Grinds Brook follow that upstream until you meet Croden Brook, then follow Crowden Brook to Kinder Gates where you pick up the River Kinder which is the stream that falls over Kinder Downfall. I left Eadale at 11am and arrived at Kinder Downfall at 3pm, from Kinder Downfall you could always complete the Loop by walking down via the PW Alternative Route along the stepped pathway. Edale to Kinder Downfall by my route just over 4 miles. Tony in Essex

@@shefreelyroams Yes it was enjoyable and If only I coud do it again tomorrow I would, a lot less hikers about and as I joined the uphill section I met up with some younger people (I was over 40 yrs old at the time and had recently left the Army) and they offered to carry my rucksack (which was not needed, but it was kind of them to ask) instead I offered to carry one of theirs. Needless to say they struggled onwards and upwards following me as I was the only one in the group to have the book and a map, and more importantly the knowledge of mapreading. They were only on a day hike and I did not tell them until we parted at Kinder Downfall that this was just Day one of my nearly 300 miles to Kirk Yetholme in Scotland. Maybe when you get to retirment age you too can look back on your hiking trips and remember each and every one of them as though they were only Yesterday. Happy Hiking, Tony in Essex.
