Hiking along the U.S.-Mexico Border | Sierra Vista Arizona | Tuesday Hikers

This hike to the U.S.-Mexico border starts on the south side of Highway 92 in Palominas and is about 10 miles round trip with very little elevation gain. The hike begins with a nearly four-mile walk down a dirt road to the border wall and then continues almost a mile along the wall to the San Pedro River. The route provides interesting and thought-provoking views. To get to this trailhead, head south from Sierra Vista on Highway 92 and turn right at the binocular sign. The right turn is about 1 mile east of the turn for S. Palominas Road.

Yes, it's the perfect time of year for this type of desert hike. The Relive app produces that cool moving route map. Surprisingly enough, it's a free app. I love how it shows the terrain.

My grandparents had a little place bordered by the bridge 0ver 92 and the "Brite Spot". Why didn't you simply hike the river itself? It is a much more beautiful route

Unfortunately there's lots of river debris/downed trees etc. from the monsoon rains that make it slow and difficult to hike in many places along the river.

@@karenflynnhikes Must have been my youth, my friends and I rode into Mexico on a regular basis, burning up countless boxes of .22 cal ammo and a stick or two of dynamite available right in that store/post office in Palominas. At least that abomination of a wall had not been erected yet.
