I love this place. I've been up there countless times. It never gets old. I love that smell of the green trees as you approach the summit parking.

Just a short drive off the Blue Ridge Parkway, plan your visit to Mount Mitchell during the warmer months. Roads can be closed due to ice unexpectedly. You can drive almost to the summit, with just a short hike from the parking area. One important tip… unless you plan on camping in the mountains, get off the Parkway before sunset. If you’re like me, you do not want to drive the Parkway in the dark. It’s a long, long way down…

By your comment, I'm going to assume you're a YEC (young earth. Creationist). Rest assured dating methods are reliable as we can measure the decay rate and the material is put through different and even unnatural circumstances in laboratories to make sure the dates are correct. On top of it, different measurements and different methods are used to reach a conclusive average. Even by simply seeing the growing distance between the Atlantic ridge and reversing that rate, we can tell it's been millions of years since the Appalachian mountains' last collision. If you're concerned with that conflicting with the Creative Days, we must take in the context of ancient Hebrew and what a day really meant, not by our modern/literalist view. "A task has been started in a task has been completed" gives an indefinite amount of time. Science and the Bible do not have to be at odds with one another

It’s true! The Appalachian mountains were formed when Pangea was still one continuous continent.

Kind of like according to tv commercials America is 80% black but in real life they are only like 13% of population...

Was just there. Saw a lot of human diversity. That includes black people. In fact, I see more and more black people every hike I go on. It’s pretty cool.

Why did they show black people walking the trail?

I'm guessing it's because black people live in North Carolina. Who knows?

Why not? Showing black people hiking? I didn't know that hiking was for white only.. ridiculous comment, hiking is for all.! The stereotyping is insane over here... Except I'm not. We are all Gods children, made in his image.. when we die, our flesh whatever skin color becomes dust .. God bless all.

@@BlackOperations530 Madison and Yancey counties are some of the whitest counties in the United States. Seems pretty biased to primarily only show black people. They hate us whites and want to erase us from history.
