Here is my hiking backpack review of the @SierraDesigns Flex Capacitor 40-60. It's a great option for people wanting low weight, yet capable of carrying higher loads. great review, good luck on your travels. I met you in a hostel in Seward, Alaska late this summer. PS: we made it to the top of the harding ice field. You were right, One of the best hikes I had ever been on.

Thanks for that review. You commented that Sierra Designs sent you a new updated version after the strap on your old one ripped, but has the newer version been reinforced? Thanks.

Thx for a really good review. I try to decide between the flex and the exped lightning 60 when and if I need to carry up to 15-20kg on long unsupported hikes :)!

Thanks for this Chris. Great review. How did the strap break out of curiosity? Just randomly from a heavy load? Or did you snag it or something? Also, you haven't ever tried a Gossamer Gear Gorrilla by chance have you? Im totally stuck between it, and the SD Flex Capacitor here, and have been going back and forth between both for months now lol.
@ChrisonTour
@ChrisonTour 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Jake, havent tried that one yet nop! The strap broke because of the heavy load and the fact that I always put on the pack from the same side, should have altered perhaps. It was a long hike so can happen I guess

if u look closely there is just one lame seam at that point, and all over shoulder strap attachments are ridiculous on this pack, it totally ruins the concept and relying on it is a problem. I always got some needles thread and tape with pliers bcs I don't wanna be left on a mountain with a failed pack

Great review - really keen about this pack! One thing, the rain cover vs. pack liner - surely the saved grams is massively outweight by the extra water soaking into the fabric? I'm not talking much but a dry pack is a happy pack?
@ChrisonTour
@ChrisonTour 2 жыл бұрын
I would also go with a rain cover if you know that it will rain a lot, if rain is not a certainty then id go with a pack liner. Really depends whereabouts you are hiking :)
@vvs3796

and regarding rain cover..i did buy SD one separately..and on a first outing it was blown away by a wind in mountains,i didnt even realize that. very basic rain cover. i realize more n more than european outdoor stuff is better designed for windy and wet weather and stronger too.

I have 2 of these, the 40/60 and the 60/75 and thought that they were fantastic until I noticed wear and holes in the pack. The waist belt has a stiff edge that cuts into the pack at the point where the lumbar pad is fitted. This wears a hole in the pack. I have contacted SD but as yet no response which has been disappointing. Don't rely too much on the online chat either, 15 mins into the chat the agent left for an hour without telling me, just left me hanging....

I guess its hit or miss, I had a fast response from support and replacement pack while traveling on the PCT they sent it to my new restock stop

@@ChrisonTour Vastly different experience for me, over a week and absolutely no response at all. Maybe if you live in USA they honour their warranty but for those outside their approach is just to ignore. Something for us to think about with their gear.

Does this backpack have an insert for a water bladder/reservoir and insert for the hose to reach around to the front for ease of use? Can you use any type of water bladder?
@ChrisonTour
@ChrisonTour Жыл бұрын
Hi Stephanie, yep it does have a little hole and even a small back that can be clipped inside the backpack to hold a water bladder.

It got dry pretty quick again, of course once the rain stops and depending on the weather afterwards it might be faster or slower.
