Great and thorough review as always. I remain confused (and annoyed) at why so many of the larger manufacturers (Gregory, Osprey, others) continue to not have daisy chains or any provision for storage pockets on their shoulder straps. This is just such a major miss. Not sure if it has to do with cost or they just have not realized the value of them.

Yeah that one is a mystery to me too. :/

Nice video Doug. I was actually considering the newly designed Flex Capacitor but decided on a Mountainsmith Scream 55 and 30 liter pack instead. I saw Paul Messner reviewed the Flex Trail and said it was a pretty decent pack as well. A good option for someone on a budget (although I think there are better options out there) All the best!

I'd say the same. :)

hello mate, does the scream 55 "flexes" like the sierra design? I don't need it to be so flexible, just compresses the empty part would be nice. the reason i'm looking to scream 55 is I don't like the Y-DAC in sierra, for i'm afraid it may scratch the down sweater i may put inside. thank you!

@@erniehuang3424 the scream doesn’t flex like the flex capacitor does. It does have a roll top and a big u-shaped zipper to make accessing the internal area extremely easy. Been a solid pack so far.

Hey Doug, could you please measure the hight of the Backpack when it's empty? I would love to use it for travelling/hiking, but it hast to able to compress down to 55cm maximum hight ("the Frame has to be smaller then 55cm"). The reason for the 55cm hight limit is the handluggage limit from many Airlines. Greetings from Germany and thank you very much (in advance).

Great review (although a little brighter lighting inside would be perfect!), the Flex Trail looks like a nice lightweight option to replace my Kelty Redwing 50. It's perfect for reducing down to take as a carry on for flights. And at only $150, it's not going to kill my wallet to replace my stolen backpack, and this is a price from a veteran American company. I just need to get the opportunity to get back into the wild again!

Yeah the footage seemed brighter until I got into editing - the learning process neve ends! I am glad you see the benefits, and i hope it makes a good replacement if you get it. Now to get outside!

I've always found the Flex Capacitor appealing. Alas, it doesn't fit my 22"+ torso. If it were longer, then I would probably own one.

Dang, the Trail only goes to 21". I'd look into ULA, their large gets into that range and they can customize it to be perfect. The Circuit is my pack (see my review) and it is a good balance of lightweight and long lasting.

@@BackcountryPilgrim Yeah, it is the only major pack I can think of that is so limited in length. ULA isn't really my style. Probably Seek Outside if I feel a need to upgrade someday. They appear to have one of the best frames in the business.
