Hello Penny Plant, Yes, he's such a lovely man. I was so fortunate to have met him at Elephant Rock and to have him want to hike the rest of the trail with me there - it made for such a great experience. Don't get me started with the humidity.. my shirt was completely drenched! And yes, I do believe they were birds, however they could be monkeys? Thank you for watching! :) Take care

Those sounds you hear in the background are cicadas, a type of insect that you hear a lot of in the summer months in Taiwan.
