The Nakasendo Trail is the perfect way to combine Japanese history with the beautiful outdoors in Japan. On this trip, we hiked the classic route from the post-town of Tsumago-juku to Magome-juku.

Is this the most beautiful place in all of Japan? 😍 Closed tea houses and a never-ending uphill trail couldn't stop Roy from admiring the views at the end (BUT maybe go for the opposite direction if you're doing the Nakasendo 😂)

These hiking trails are the parts of Japan outdoors that we do not see often, especially for tourists. It’s beautiful and not over crowded. This is definitely a change in pace from the normal Japan site seeing and shopping. Thank you for bringing this to us.

Hi guys, I’m so glad to see that you’ve walked some of this stunning trail. I’ve been fascinated with it and it’s history for a number of years, it must have been quite a sight back when the lords would travel with their entourage. I could spend hours just wandering and looking at all the amazing things in both the towns and also along the trail between them. I imagine in some respects the camera doesn’t completely do it justice, though I’m very happy to sit here and watch and experience. This would be another ‘must do’ if I ever visit Japan, like Roy said, This is Japan. Thank you so much for sharing your experience of this beautiful part of the world with everyone. Best wishes to the two of you. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇦🇺🇯🇵😊

Hello hello! Yes I reckon it’d be so easy to do a longer trip here. We spent way too long looking around the first town, Tsumago-juku, realized the day was getting on and had to quickly move on 😅 Yes definitely seeing it with your own eyes is the best experience! But we’re really grateful to be able to capture it with the camera and have it watched by wonderful viewers such as yourself 😊 Thank you as always for your lovely comment!

@RoyandAimee
@RoyandAimee 10 күн бұрын
You can do it! Trust us, nothing to be scared about with the bears, there's enough foot traffic along the trail that the chance of a bear encounter is next to none. But of course I can't say that without also saying for sensibilities, have your wits about you :)

Are there sections with stairs? About how many, and how many stairs? I'm a wheelchair user and would love to go along here. I can handle dirt tracks and grass
@RoyandAimee
@RoyandAimee Ай бұрын
Hi there! From memory, most of the trail was just slopes except for at least two sets of fairly long stairs (maybe 40-50 steps?) near Magome-juku. You can kinda see them off the to left at 10:25. There were also times like at 4:59 where there were small rises in the path. Probably one other thing is that there was one section that was very narrow between some houses. It was a detour though, with the proper section of the trail looking like it was under repair. Hope that helps!

Very nicely done mate! I’m planning on doing this exact same route as you. Is there camping ⛺️ on this route?
@RoyandAimee
@RoyandAimee Ай бұрын
Thanks for the kind comment! We didn’t see any camping on the route we took unfortunately. It seems like there might be some campgrounds in the wider area: maps.app.goo.gl/gq3xg79r9ttvMkceA?g_st=ic maps.app.goo.gl/AgCS1gAvde4j7gki7?g_st=ic But these are out of the way from the main route between Tsumago and Magome.

Thank you 🙏 for reply. I meant “wild” camping. Like walking a few minutes off trail to make a one night camp spot. Did you see or feel like this may be acceptable? I’m a student and trying to save money 💰. 🤗
@RoyandAimee
@RoyandAimee Ай бұрын
Ah! Yes sorry I misunderstood 😅 Hmm that's a great question. Honestly, we don't have any experience with wild camping and it doesn't seem to be something that is done as much in Japan. We've heard of people doing it by keeping a low profile, arriving late and leaving early but you also have to be prepared to be asked to move on by land owners etc. So whether it's acceptable along this route, we couldn't really say sorry!
