Beautiful! It reminds me of the desert around Tucson when I returned from Vietnam in 1966. I was stationed at DMAFB; I loved the desert after 13 months in NAM including experiencing the monsoon at Danang in a tent. Everything was wet for three months. The color of the rock cliffs is quite remarkable as well as how green the desert is. I really miss the southwest. Your video shows its beauty nicely. It must have been tough for native Americans although I'm certain they had survival skills we can't imagine.

The first time I traveled alone in my van I went to a “van build” get together. I met some great folks in the “quiet area”. But mostly I realized that the large gatherings were not my thing. But…while I was there I went for walks every day and explored the caves, the cactus, pretty rocks and funny bugs, like the stink bug. In the end I knew I wanted to explore more of Arizona and go on quiet walks with just me and my thoughts (and my backpack with essential). Your video was amazing showing the strength of such a harsh place and it’s beauty and the wisdom of a People who managed to flourish there. Thanks again .

Us too! We love to meet everyone, but prefer our solitude. I think you'll find that most of the van dwellers, and other's living full time in small outfits, are also like that.

I came across a Gila monster just outside Organ Pipe years ago. He (or she?) hissed and we let it go after moving it from the road. They are amazing creatures but venomous! Thank you for another wonderful video. Still working on my trailer and appreciate the inspiration.
@gonagain4 жыл бұрын
I didn't realize that the Gila monster was slow moving and I've never seen one. Believe it or not, with all the time Linda and I have spent in the desert we have never seen a rattler there (plenty in Montana though). But we are SO careful in our movements.

I was there in February, didn't do any hiking but enjoyed the natural beauty around the park campground. Did not enjoy the solar heated showers either, always cold by the time I got one too, even in the morning!😆 Despite that, It's just amazing, I'd love to go back sometime.

Choya is how you pronounce Cholla. Palo Verde's do get leaves through the summer, I suspect you were just before they get their leaves for the season. The Ocotillo, it sheds leaves rapidly after the rainwater is gone, but as soon as any appreciable rain falls it leaves up again - based on rain and not on season. Ocotillos are members of the Rose family.
@freewill11144 жыл бұрын
The jumping cholla is pronounced "choy-yu". If you get one of those little balls stuck on your clothes, you can use your comb to remove it. One time, my wife and I stopped at the home of some friends. When she answered the door, she said "Welcome, but you can't bring that into my house!" We looked down. and my wife had a cholla ball stuck to her shoe!
@gonagain4 жыл бұрын
They are sneaky for sure. As careful as I was I still removed several that day. Comb? What's that? Lost my need for one a long time ago... Thanks for watching, freewill1114.
