Hi Andy, if you think the spokeshave is good for bark stripping...get yourself an 8" curved draw knife! Fantastic tool for the job & only about £20, spoke shave is better for 'fine tuning' BTW next time you harvest some sticks,strip the bark off some while the wood is still green, it comes off so much easier, all the best Russ

Hi, that's one tool I have wanted for a long time.I also make longbows for my own pleasure and use and a draw knife would make things easier and more professional. I have a fascination with trying to get hold of a vintage one. I will pursue that goal in the coming months. I used to strip at the harvest site and back home before racking for drying but I then started to get asked for bark natural styles so by Stripping beforehand I reduced my ability to chose a sticks style before even working it. You are correct though a green stick will de-bark easier. Thanks for watching ,Andy.

HI, It has made short work of taking bark off sticks. My arms no longer hurt after a session doing 13.....lol Andy.

Looks like it'll be a good addition to the tool box. Question; does hazel lighten up substantially once dry? As I mentioned, I cut a few sticks in February. They are about the size of a pool que. Yours are more robust than the ones i cut. Only four months drying, not feeling a noticeable decrease in weight. I'm sure this miserable heat will speed the process. The wood I use is primarily Yaupon Holly. It's crazy heavy. Can't imagine up sizing to a larger diameter and the stick being comfortably light. The Hazel "starts" I purchased won't ship until November.

Hi, Hazel does bend and twist while drying but it does straighten easy when useing heat methods. I tend to do sticks aimed at hiking and rural walking this means they get abused so I go for a little bit of strength. I would never have got one if left to me so thanks once again for the Spokeshave. Andy.
