The ultimate Taygetus Climb... hike or drive up to the camp in the evening, eat a picnic dinner and have a couple drinks, sleep, and hike to the peak at 3am. You want to be at the peak just before sunrise b/c the sun will project a beautiful pyramid shadow on the sea. It is quite remarkable! Very nice video!

Oh yes this is going on our to do list for Greece, we love hiking and this seems like a doable climb in 1 day :D We climbed Vitosha in Bulgaria, this is alot more forested than that though :)

2 hours each way 😫 The scenery was so amazing! Its the part of Greece you don't hear much about. There's so much more to Greece than islands and beaches!

April and Tim Travel Greece is not about going to specific islands and getting charged an arm and a leg for the privilege. Lakonia has so much to offer tourists ranging from ancient ruins to fantastic beaches and villages that reflect the true Greece and not islands infected by crass mass tourism.

Yes Peter, greece has so much more to offer than the ones we see on the postcard - so was good to see april and tim travel around other places too.. ive never seen lakonia myself

Nick Effendi Having spent nearly a year in Lakonia and visiting just about all of the villages in the prefecture, I can safely say my comments about to follow are made with much expertise. Lakonia is packed with anything a tourist could ask for, unfortunately , the local authorities there have no idea on how to promote Lakonia. If they had half a brain, Lakonia would be full of tourists year round & local businesses would reap the rewards & in turn, more employment opportunities would be created for the unemployed. For reasons known only to them, they are keeping Lakonia back & permanently a backwater when it comes to tourists & tourism.

Hi ! Do you think a UTV side by side like can-am can reach the summit from the refuge by the pathways? is there enough clearance to pass from the trees? Thank you.
@AprilandTimTravel5 жыл бұрын
Hmm....dont think so. Its very rocky and uneven. Plus quite steep in parts. The trail also gets extremely narrow in sections. You could take it from the bottom carpark to the cabin though.

Haha yes I was! Tim is so much taller and we dont have a wide enough lens, so either tip toes or a step 😂😂

hi thank you for the interesting video...i have a question, are there enough water spring on the mountain and are there water fountains like the one you show in the video in the towns around taigetos like kardamili?
@AprilandTimTravel5 жыл бұрын
There are a lot of springs around but I wouldn't rely on them, sometimes they can be hard to find. We had some large water bottles in our boot and filled them up when we had the chance. Sometimes its just a pipe sticking out from a rock so you have to be good at spotting them!

Any sign of the aftermath of the Greek forest fires in the areas you were in?
@AprilandTimTravel6 жыл бұрын
Surprisingly no. We think the fires were more north, we were around the central and Eastern part of the Peloponnese. Where we went they were quite prepared, a lot of people trimming bushes & trees. We even noticed high power sprinklers in ancient sites and forests that had a lot of visitors.
@peterkatsambis94156 жыл бұрын
Lakonia is around 300 kms from the fires that happened in Eastern Attica.
