After finishing the Colorado Trail I took a week off to rest before heading back out to hike the Imp Face in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.
This shorter hike (2.2 miles one way) offers some solid relatively easy woods walking and you are granted with a pretty fantastic view of the Presidential range as your reward. Even with some pretty significant cloud cover when we arrived it was still a solid view.
You can make the hike a loop but we decided to just go back down the way we came. If you continue along the loop it adds about 4 more miles to your trip including a short road walk. Planning to go back and do that side of trail during the winter at some point.

Full disclosure - The links in this description are more than likely affiliate links. This means if you click on one of these links and make a purchase I make a commission from that sale. As much as I love money, I would highly suggest giving yourself at least 48 hours before any purchase decision and asking yourself “Do I really need this?”. I hope more times than not, you find yourself saying “I Definitely do NOT need this”. If you find yourself still in need, shop around and find the best deal for your money.
Please note that I am not recommending any of the gear seen in any of my videos. The gear I use is what I have found works best for me at the time period I am using it. I have come to these gear choices through vast levels of trial, error, and experimenting with gear out on trail.
Gear, clothing, footwear, etc. are not one style works for all. Do as much research as you can, try out things in person if able, and make the best informed purchase decision for YOU. Do not buy gear just because it worked for, was showcased by, or recommended by someone on KZbin

l think l was 8 or so when my family and l hiked lmp Face. 60 years ago. At the top l found out that my older brother, who hung back, was afraid of heights. l ventured much closer to the edge. l must have been a tireless billy goat back then. When l revisited the Webster Cliff Trail [White Mtns] sometime since 2000 l was shocked at how relentlessly steep the trail was. All's l noticed whenever we went up Webster Cliff was the the clouds were MC Escher dramatic and the cliff-top view was spectacular. Way back when! Nice, nostalgic vid. Thanks!

Welcome back! Your vids are terrific! Can I just say that firstly, because you have such a calming voice like those old time NatGeo vids I used to watch as a kid where the guy is explaining everything around him in this soothing tone! There is so much to explore in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. I totally get what you are saying about getting readjusted AGAIN...lol it was the same for me returning back to running events after being off for a couple of months due to injury. It felt like starting all over again from scratch, getting the body used to the mileage and pounding. In any event, you are doing great! Happy trails! 🌺

Ya I got back from the trail and found a pretty insane deal on an a7iii and 24-70 2.8 gm. I messed with the a7iii for a bit before. My Mt Shaw video was actually on the a7iii also. The picture quality from it is insane. The gh5 has some better video features. but going to give the a7iii a good run this time to see if it works out better for me

Hey, great videos. I've been watching since your thru-hike. I am going to finish my 6 year section hike of the AT this summer and will be going through the whites in early June. I am from Georgia and have no idea what kind of weather to expect in the New Hampshire and Maine mountains. Any suggestions as to what level of sleeping bag and clothing to bring?

Wow love the mountain views. My knees are happy as long as I keep moving of course here in Florida I don't have any elevation change the highest point in the state is less then 350 feet.

Welcome back to N.H. ….. glad to see you back. Curious how you decide on a trail to do on a given day. Consider doing a video on it. Include which web sites you use in researching / preparing for a trail. I'm the worst planner ….. usually narrow it down to 2 or 3 trails but often don't decide which trail I'm doing until I actually pull into the parking lot.

Will definitely give it consideration for a video but most of the time I’m last minute too. We were going to mt Martha that morning. Decided on Imp instead on the drive up haha

I have really been enjoying the slowerness of my hikes in New Hampshire. A lot of people pride themselves on the mileage especially on a long distance hike but many of these "52 with a view" NH hikes I will hike and then sit and mess around at the summit for hours. Nice to take in what you worked so hard to get to the top of haha

You should become a white mountain guide trip guy... I'd totally pay cash to just be able to drive to a parking lot and meet the person that knows the epic spots to go to! It cuts out stressful research on my end 😂
@ChrisGoesOutdoors

Would be pretty cool. I talked to a guide in one of the smaller CO towns. The outfitter he works through essentially sets up backcountry "glamping" for clients. The amount of money the people pay them for like 1-2 nights was ABSURD to me. Like I was in shock haha. So like some of the trips he will guide, and 1-2 others will go up to the camp area for the night. Set everything up for the people so they essentially dont have to do anything. Was crazy some of the prices he was telling me haha

Dec 2020 - Some people have asked why I have been leaving trail and summit names out of many of my recent videos. This decision came due to issues with what I would consider uneducated hiker behavior during the 2020 hiking season. The most notable of which was trash, and human waste / toilet paper I had been finding directly on or next to the trail. With the pandemic hitting a lot of people took to the outdoors for escape and I certainly cannot blame them. In fact, I encourage it. However, it appears many of these people did no research on common outdoors etiquette or how we should treat the trails and outdoor areas that we and others regularly frequent for recreation and escape. If you are using this video for planning purposes and are a newer hiker please watch this video before heading out on trail. This video is me explaining some of the etiquette around hiking and camping that I wish others had shared with me when I started getting outdoors: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mpnHaHhqp6x8raM And please familiarize yourself with the principals of leave no trace lnt.org/why/7-principles/ www.nps.gov/articles/leave-no-trace-seven-principles.htm Here is an article about the issue with trash and human waste specifically in the Whites www.nhpr.org/post/trouble-trails-forest-service-grapples-crowds-trash-and-human-waste#stream/0 Another article about Max Patch (an iconic part of the Appalachian Trail) and the issues occurring there www.citizen-times.com/story/news/local/2020/09/23/max-patch-residents-campers-creating-safety-hazards-mountain/5858936002/
