I really should hike this trail, especially since you started this video sheltering from the rain in my home village, and Drymen itself is only 20 minutes away! I did do most of the section between Kilmahog and Aberfoyle many years ago for a Duke of Edinburgh Award and loved it. I'll do the whole thing one day!

I recently faced the same travel situation after doing the WHW with my wee pup, long, expensive train journeys as very few alternatives when travelling with animals, however on many routes Citylink has been bought over by West Coast Motors who allow pets🎉 Always check first though as it isn't always clear which routes are affected! Great video, we plan to do this next year 👍

I thought for sure on day 1 you would camp at the spot I used in April, but you passed it. At the start of the lochan (nearest the logging site) there was wooden viewing seat where you could camp either side of the path. I was sick and ended up spending two nights there before hobbling into Callender to exit back to Stirling.

I saw it, it was the absolute perfect spot overlooking the loch, but it was quite late and there was already 2 tents pitched there. Otherwise I would have pitched there 🥰😅

Hi Elli! Interesting! I've got that route on my list too. It's great to see you doing it. I had mentioned that I saw you on the bus from Inverness heading towards Fort William. I was on my way to the Isle of Skye to hike the trail. You surely won't miss that one! With the SWCP, it's definitely one of my best hiking experiences so far. Looking forward to the next part. This is another delightful vlog of you and Otto, Elli. I half wondered if you might have stumbled across Scot (Jogle walker you met last year. His channel is Endorphins) as you passed Lochearnhead. Even though I'm 72, I play drums/percussion and have played at Lochearnhead village hall for Hogmanay. And regularly in Callander, the Blues & Jazz Festival is every October. Played Killin three times over the years but not since Covid. Anyway, always a delight seeing you and Woof. 🙂🙂

RRW is on my bucket list but am a bit put off by the lack of wild camping at the beginning and the amount of road walking. I'll probably start at Milngavie or get the train to Balloch and then the bus to Drymen. You and Otto are certainly eating up the miles👍

Hi just an FYI: I took the bus to Killearn and walked on through Gartness to pick up the WHW to Drymen to start RRW. Nice little walk too. There’s a campsite on the way too if you’re late starting.

About 12 yrs ago this was my first solo hike. It is not the most beautiful hike imo, and a lot of roadwalking, but a good one to do as a first time solo because you are never far from civilisation. Finding a campspot was a bit of a search at times, esp alongside loch tay.

Yep, can totally relate…. It’s not the most scenic compared to other hikes but I actually liked it, especially the longer route through Glen Almond. It definitely has its beautiful spots too 😊

I did the RRW as a series of day walks over the winter using mostly public transport, finishing in April. It is a greatly under-rated hike IMHO.

Hallo Eilli und Otto, vielen Dank für das Mitnahmen auf die Tour. Bei dem ganzen Regen noch so viel Freundlichkeit auszustrahlen gehört schon was dazu, Hut ab. Kleine Frage wenn ich darf, hat sich das Schlafsystem soweit bewährt und würden Sie es erneut kaufen? Ich schwanke zw. Apex und Daune und möchte letzteres ungern waschen wegen des Aufwandes und wegen Ursprung des Materials.

Oh, das ist lieb - Dankeschön für das nette Feedback! Das freut mich riesig :) Mein Apex 233 Quilt vom Gramxpert ist tatsächlich eines meiner absoluten Ausrüstungsgegenstände seit über 2 Jahren. Bin absolut zufrieden, habe ihn oft gewaschen, dazu Ottos Krallen und der Quilt hat keinerlei Gebrauchsspuren!! Bin wahnsinnig zufrieden damit. Er ist natürlich etwas schwerer als Daune bei gleichem Temperaturrating (wobei das nur wenige Gramm mehr sind) und nicht so komprimierbar wie Daune. Aber dafür muss ich mir bei Feuchtigkeit 0 Gedanken machen, Apex ist vegan (was mir wichtig ist) und da nehme ich die kleinen 'Nachteile' gerne in Kauf. Bin 1000% zufrieden damit :)

Did you wish you'd had a more freestanding tent on the first night when you struggled to pitch? I've just switched to a Durston and worry I'll come across a situation where I just can't get the pegs in the ground and it won't go up.

I know that it's hard to believe in the video, but actually no! I've slept in it over 150times in the UK and other parts of Europe and I always could make it work. It's definitely doable in most areas. Sometimes you might need to hike on a bit if it's not possible at all, but in all that time I only had to change pitches and look for something else maybe 3-5 times. On all other occasions, it worked. My advice would be to look up the 'little rock, big rock"-method on youtube. I had to use it in some cases when I had really rocky ground but it still went up with this method. I know it can be scary in the beginning, but so far, I've always managed to pitch it :)

If you say so 😅 I don't think it is tbh.... I saw a lot of good spots on basically every stretch. Definitely doable 😊
