The West Coast Trail is a 75 km trail Between Bamfield and Port Renfrew on British Columbia's, Vancouver Island, Canada. The trail can be hiked North or South, and takes approximately 5-7 days to complete. The trail follows a challenging mixture of ladders, bridges, bogs and rivers through the forest and on the beach.
The trail was originally built in 1907 to facilitate the rescue of shipwrecked survivors along the coast, known as the Graveyard of the Pacific. It is now part of the Pacific Rim National Park and is often rated by hiking guides as one of the world's top hiking trails.
The West Coast Trail is open from May 1 until September 30. It is accessible to hikers outside this period, but Parks Canada does not guarantee the accessibility of services (such as search and rescue) in the offseason.
You can find more information about the trail on the Wikipedia page here: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Co...
If you are interested in reserving your spot for the upcoming season, registration generally opens around January, and you can reserve your spot here: www.pc.gc.ca/en/voyage-travel/...
I recommend booking as early as possible, as spots fill up very fast. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.
Enjoy!

I was an commissioned officer in the United States Army. We did joint training with the Canadian military. I found them to be the most polite people ever. I visited my friends I met while in the military who were from Canada. Fort St John B.C. I was never treated so kindly. I love the people. I cant wait to visit Canada again in the near future. Love you guys in the north.

@@ChrisandDanya no, I haven't. Basically stopped hiking in 04, now living in Asia. Had an intense 5 year, 5 trip love affair with the WCT, always in early August. Beautiful weather, only 1 day of rain, one whole trip in glorious sunshine, not a cloud for the entire week. If I was to do it again, I'd take the Narrows option and stay north and exit pachena. No need to grunt from Walbran to Gordon River. Just do the beach trip, tsusiat, tsocowis, Michigan. Good luck, I hope you make it back out there.

Well you picked a great trail! I think you've got the right idea of starting at Narrows and going North, that is definitely the best section. Could even combine it with the Juan de Fuca trail

Hi Chris John form the UK. Fantastic video. I am going to do the WCT but having trouble finding how to get to the start of the trail head I noticed you were on a bus is this the best way of getting there and getting back? thanks Jc.
@ChrisandDanya
@ChrisandDanya 5 жыл бұрын
Hi John, yeah taking the bus is probably the best way. Some people hitchhike/drive, but it is pretty remote. I believe this is the company we booked through, but there is a few different options: trailbus.com/west-coast-trail-fares/ We were picked up by the company in Nanaimo after taking the ferry from Horseshoe Bay in West Vancouver. We were dropped off in Bamfield, the Northern end of the trail. We then finished in Gordon River and were picked up in Port Renfrew; you take a short taxi ride from Gordon River to Port Renfrew when you finish. I believe we finished our hike a day or two early, and the company was very accommodating with our booking and let us get on early. I think they even gave us a slight refund because it was slightly cheaper the day we left.

Neon diamonds Aquaberry No, you are not allowed firearms in the Parks here, it’s not needed at all, you can carry Bear spray, but really you just wait for the bear to carry on and go around and you continue. The people you meet are awesome 😎, no worries!

@paulsmart5199 6 жыл бұрын
Chris Nelson thanks, I've been tempted with a new pack, going light. Spent the last 25 years or so using mostly 65l but was tempted recently with a 70l+10 for the just in case I need the space. Also so I can pack everything inside the pack rather than on the outside. Did you find the 60 was OK for the wct? Or would you have preferred additional space

@ChrisandDanya
@ChrisandDanya 4 жыл бұрын
Nice work! It's pretty crazy how fast everything gets booked for this trail. When we booked, we got the entry point we wanted but not the dates; however everything worked out in the end. When we arrived they asked if we wanted to start hiking that day which we did. Whole trail ended up taking us 5 days, but I think that's really dependant on the weather. We lucked out and got sunny clear skies the entire way. I'm envious, I'd love to be able to do this one again.

@@ChrisandDanya it is a grind. Its more about creating and getting out there for me. Trying to stick to a 1 video a week is getting me out more often, which is great. (Probably won't say that early tomorrow morning when my alarm goes off, knowing I could sleep in.) We can't wait for West Coast. I'm open to any tips you have. We're going in the north, coming out the south. Probably flying into Victoria. Looking at buses to the various trailheads.

Well you're doing a great job man. I've noticed your filming, editing and story telling has really improved. If you're looking for transport to the trail we used these guys and they were great: trailbus.com/west-coast-trail-fares/ We finished a day or two early and they allowed us to get on an earlier bus back to Victoria without any issues. If you want to fly into Vancouver (it might be cheaper), you can take a bus to Horseshoe Bay then ferry to Nanimo where the transport company will pick you up on the other side and take you to the trail. That's what we did If you've got a spare afternoon in Victoria, I highly recommend the BC History Museum beside Parliament House. It's awesome

Beautiful video but somewhat deceiving. I have done this hike twice, both from south to north. It is far more challenging this way. The weather in the video was great. If it rains, as it usually does, the hike is far more difficult. It is not an easy hike, but a very rewording hike.
@ChrisandDanya
@ChrisandDanya 4 жыл бұрын
Couldn't agree more Barbara, it is definitely a challenging hike! I think we were just enjoying ourselves so much, the difficulty doesnt come across in the video haha I can imagine South to North is quite a bit harder. Getting off the boat and having to start by climbing that long vertical ladder is daunting! Congratulations on completing the trail twice, I hope we get the chance to do the same one day. Thanks for watching!
