Hiking to Pico Ruivo's summit (Not what we expected)

The hike to Pico Ruivo wasn't what we expected.
After seeing dozens of videos on Madeira, we came to this hike expecting an epic sunrise and stunning views...
The reality of hiking Pico Ruivo was completely different, but that's ok because we don't do this for the views, we do it for the experience.
Our hike to Madeira's highest mountain started from Pico Do Arieiro, Madeira's third highest mountain, from where you'll find yourself hiking pretty quickly on a ridge.
The hike to Pico Ruivo had us pass in places through tunnels, reminding us of the previous day's hike to Madeira's famous Levadas: Levada do Caldeirao Verde and Inferno.
Traveling to this part of Portugal was on our list for a long time, and getting to experience one of Madeira's top hikes made it all worthwhile.

I did this hike last October. It’s amazing. Got to Pico Ruivo just in time for sunset above the clouds. You need to come again with better weather!
