I am currently sailing in Colombia. I went to the dentist this week and it was the best dental experience I have ever had. The cleaning and X-rays cost me $65. I went back the next day for 3 fillings, $150. Next week I have a gum surgery scheduled which will cost less than $150. After 12 years of no dental care the Colombians have fixed me up for about $350 total. I am very happy with the service😁

One of my stitches came out while eating breakfast watching this video. Back history: I had a root canal, during which the tip of the dental drill broke off and was left by the dentist. He thought it would be okay. It wasn't. I was referred to an Endodontist for a re-root canal that also failed. My tooth was unsaveable. I was referred to an oral surgeon for a tooth extraction and bone implant. The oral surgeon was excellent. The extraction and bone implant were a success, and I healed well. Last Tuesday, I had a post installed by the oral surgeon. In three months, my dentist will make a new tooth to attach to the post. This process has taken several years. Living without a tooth, like some, wasn't something I could do. I encourage you to do your homework when choosing your oral surgeon, not a regular dentist. The better results are expensive because you are paying for their skills and expertise. The surgery part is a breeze because you are sedated and gas is the bomb... no pun intended. Healing takes time and meds. Don't put it off too long. You heal better when you're young. Please treat your teeth with the best care you can afford. Do not neglect just because it isn't bothering you. You have a beautiful smile. Love your teeth as much as you love Parlay. Don't skimp where it matters the most. 🦷 Thanks for sharing.

If you are in no pain, I see no problem in waiting a few months for a more convenient place and time to pause your adventures for a few weeks. I've been through a very similar operation, in my case both of my wisdom teeth had the same problem, the roots were growing like horns curling out and away from each other, pulling them like this would have been like trying to pull hooks straight out. This forced my oral surgeon to saw both teeth in half and pull one half at a time. I was awake through the whole thing, surprisingly the pain wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. I was given enough pain meds to last 5 days and stopped taking it after the 2nd day. There was a considerable amount of swelling, my cheeks were stretched to the limit, my girlfriend kept teasing me about my chipmunk cheeks. That had to be like 45 yrs ago and I remember it like yesterday... lol

another great episode. Bro, for major dental surgeries, we do a "Dental holiday" in Thailand or Vietnam. The surgeries are top notch, staff are either aussie or kiwi trained and they are heaps cheaper then Aussie (or NZ I would presume). The bro went up to Saigon for a 10 day "Dental holiday", 1 day for surgery, 2 days in their hospital and 7 day tourist trip. Think about it but the services are professional, top notch and cheap, cheap is not always good but they don't have the same overheads as aussie or NZ.

The cost of dental care in the U.S. has become prohibitive. A friend's 15 year-old son has had $60,000 dollars worth of dental work done in the last couple of months....a root canal, a bunch of fillings and cosmetic restorations. The mother has two other children to care for and makes $3.00 an hour plus tips working three days a week to supplement her partner's income. They can't get married or she will lose her Medicaid insurance which so far will cover most of the cost. Her son needs four wisdom teeth extracted but Medicaid will only pay for two. How does any average-income family afford medical and dental care in the United States these days?
@PeaceMeBish57 минут бұрын
As someone who’s had major dental surgery for double jaw surgery at 29 years old to fix a few issues including a severe overbite (and had 4 wisdom teeth removed when I was 16), my advice is to plan to take proper time off. You’ll heal much better/faster. Dental work like this is not something to rush through, as it can make life absolutely miserable. I couldn’t imagine trying to recover from it while sailing on a boat. Our mouth is literally our life, so you use it so much more than you even think about. Having to recover from major surgery means there’s no real way around having to take really good care of yourself to keep up on proper nutrition, fluids, etc. Give yourself a proper few weeks to a month off. Don’t recommend trying to travel or do any other major life plans while recovering. Find a place to hunker down, preferably with people who can provide good care, and use the opportunity to rest. Not to scare you, but just to say that I did end up with nerve damage. The roof of my mouth (pallet) was split and widened, and both sides of my jaw were cut and extended forward. Nerve damage was one of the risks. The entire roof of my mouth has zero feeling, and the left side of my chin never did fully regain feeling. Having said that, I would do it again 100x over. I look and feel so much better. The loss of feeling doesn’t really bother me. I got used to it. I just have to be careful when foods are too hot as I can’t feel it. Otherwise, it hasn’t affected my quality of life at all. So that’s my two cents. Don’t wait for that tooth to become a pain. Make a plan to get it done. I also feel you for not having health insurance. Even if I had insurance, it wouldn’t have covered it because it was considered a cosmetic/elective surgery. Cost $16K CAD out of pocket to get it done, and 3 years of my life total (including braces). Plus an additional 6 months-1 year before I could eat solid food again. You wouldn’t experience that downtime, though. That was only because they had to cut my jaw so I had to be very careful as I could have re-broken it by eating a steak or something difficult to chew. You’ll probably be eating solid foods again within a week or so. Dental work sucks in the moment, but it’s usually worth it in the long run, in my experience.

I had all 4 wisdom teeth extracted at the same time. The bottom ones were horizontal like yours. The dentist was sweating so bad, his assistant had to keep dabbing his brow. The noises were horrible too. The top teeth sounded like wood splitting as he pulled them out. My whole jaw swelled, my entire neck and even the tops of my shoulders were swollen for about 10 days. Take care of your teeth, your back, and your feet! These are the 3 most important areas of the body that keeps us happy and pain free.

Climbing an active volcano is by far one of the coolest things I have ever done myself as well. So hard to put into words how wild that experience really is. You can just feel the volcano rumbling in your diaphragm. Smell it, hear all around you. You feel small but ecstatic. Unforgettable. I actually named my dog after the volcano, haha. Stromboli. When you come through the Med the Aeolian Islands north of Sicily are nice place to anchor and hike around as well.

Yes if the tooth gets impacted, pushing on the next tooth, it will really hurt and you should get it removed when the opportunity shows it self. Collin, i have had a saying for some years, and that is; “If you can walk to a doctor dont go there, you should allways be carried to them” but on the other hand and with some teeth issues myself in the past, and with growing age, there are some nasty bacteria that can grow in the mouth even what I understand which can give heart problems and others, at some point it might be good taking out that tooth. Very nice episode, and what amazing thing you did with those kids. Hat of for that. ❤

Had two lower wisdom teeth removed last year about this time before heading out for 3 months away from home. I had no dental work of any kind done prior including cavities.But they assured me one of the teeth had a cavity started on the backside that I couldn’t feel. They were not bothering me at all. However having a couple dental professionals in the family they told me, it’s fine until it’s not. And when that cavity hits, you’re going to be darn sorry you didn’t do something. Mine wasn’t as serious as your issue. However the dentist I used had a heck of a time extracting one of the two lowers. In the end they had missed a small spur and had to go back in again when I returned 30 days later for a check and cleaning. I had just started to heal and feel solid again back there. I get it done sooner than later, and yes, waiting for that area to heal takes awhile and lots of care.

Colin, get yourself a Waterpik or similar irrigator for your teeth. The first time I used one was after brushing my teeth thoroughly, and I couldn't believe all the gunk that came washing out. I became a convert right then and there. You can also use a little hydrogen peroxide in the water to help heal gum infections. Be sure to warm the water up to near body temp if your teeth are sensitive to heat or cold.

My daughter and granddaughter have wisdom teeth like yours. Because of where the main nerve goes neither of them have had them out as they have been advised it could lead to paralysis of the jaw if the nerve was hit. One of my daughters' teeth has grown completely around the main nerve so can never be taken out, or even smashed (for want of a better word) by laser. I would definitely get a 2nd or 3rd opinion. My daughter did, 2 in NZ and 1 in Thailand. No dental surgeon was willing to touch them. Kids untouched by to much global crap are the best. The bright eyes and enthusiasm are contagious, even from where I'm sitting in my lazy boy.!!

I had major dental work 2 years ago, with 6 implants and full replacement of the bottom teeth, the cost of the work here in Germany was €14K, and the state medical insurance covered €500 of the cost, obviously a lot of people from Germany prefers to do medical tourism in Turkey where they can have the same work at a quarter of the price, I am Romanian and I could have done the work in Romania a bit more expensive than Turkey but not by much, the problem with for me was that the work was for a long time and could not be rushed, it lasted 6 months, after the extraction of the defective teeth I had to wait 3 months for them to heal, then the implants were drilled and mounted, and I waited two months for them to reossify and to be fixed in the bone and then all the new work was mounted, this whole procedure takes time and cannot be done faster, those who do the same thing in 10 days of medical tourism have big problems later when the implant tears out and destroys the bone. Some things can't be rushed, be careful because a "saving" of costs like that can bring you big problems and other higher costs later.

Funny to hear her say "Where Dose the Lava Go"? Lol The answer is "Where Ever It Wants to Go"! Living here On the most active volcano 🌋 on earth 🌎. The Big Island of Hawaii! You have a General idea where it is going to to go. But "Madam Pele" can surprise you and go where ever she wants. And if you ever come and visit, you will see that the lave goes down and it will take everything and in the middle of it, it will leave places untouched. It's just amazing. There are people who have given a ride to an old lady. And have given her food or water 💧. Have dropped her off and as they are driving away the old lady is gone. A day later the volcano 🌋 gose up the lava comes down and it gose around there home 🏡 untouched by the lava. And they say "Madam Pele" saved there home from the kindness they showed her.And you can see 👀 that here on the Big Island all over the place. Thanks for a Great and fun video 📹 this week. However I was at slightly greater risk of it reoccurring and rupturing than the average person after that so I went ahead and proactively opted for the surgery 4 months after my hospital stay. I wouldn’t put off a surgery like yours, of that significance and potential of infection, for more than 4 months.

Impacted wisdom teeth, my two bottom wisdom teeth were sideways and fully below gum line very similar to yours, one tooth had the nerve wrapped around it and became infected, it was truly awful, horrific. The surgeon first saw me in the morning, told me I was very lucky and by 6pm that same day I was in theatre having both impacted teeth removed as need for urgency couldn't wait any longer. what an awesome experience, when I see or think about a Volcano I think about my trip to Pompeii in Italy. Mount Vesuvius wiped out Pompeii which I always thought of as a tiny little community , turns out the place is absolutely massive. I couldn't view the entire place in 24 hours, they were advanced society for their time. They had heated floors in their spas , countless dwellings and buildings . Apparently the Romans didn't build it they just took it over from another cavitation who built it the streets are cobble stone and look new today . It is hard to imagine the chaos on the night Mount Vesuvius erupted as Archeologists have unearthed full bodies made of hardened ash after they were vaporized by the Volcano that fateful night You all are pretty Ballsy to climb to the top of that volcano and hang out until it got dark. but what an insane beautiful sight to behold . Volcano looks epic! So good to see those children. We’ll definitely brings some things for children when we go there. I had 4 wisdom teeth almost similar. It’s no joke. Each time we is looked like a rabbit and could only eat yoghurt for a week. You only have one, get rid of it. Indonesia is good and cheap for dental care. Consider that. Bangkok and Singapore have a reputation but at 4x Indonesia prices. They are similarly priced and have also plenty of dentist. Consider doing it there. Malaysia luckily I don’t know. Fair winds

Do the tooth when it starts to give you grief - it’ll be a significant recovery and you need to prep for that.

that yacht would be a good project for JAMIE , then you both could do tag-a-long tours

I had all 4 ripped out at once, 2 were impacted similar to yours. I was snacking vicodin and carne asada the next day. Dont be scared of it, just commit and knock it out. Great flick as always🤘🤘👍👏👏🍻🫂
