You need to do this the right way: 1. Start at whichever airport in Antarctica is the southernmost. You may need to be employed as a cook at a research station to do this. 2. Fly to Toronto after your season is up and fall in love with and get married to a Canadian. 3. After several years become a citizen and join the military. 4. Become qualified in stacking blankets and in a few years volunteer to do general duties for the annual resupply mission to CFS Alert, the northernmost inhabited place on Earth. 5. Congratulations! You have flown into YLT, the northernmost airport on Earth, completing your epic journey!

The southenmost airport in Antarctica is Jack F. Paulus Skiway, which is literally 1km away from the South Pole. It gets several flights per week during the summer months, serviced by ski-equipped LC-130 Hercules. Amundsen-Scott base is manned year-round, it's just that anyone wintering over is stuck there after the last flight leaves. Summer population is about 150, winter population is about 40.

Holy s**t, talk about timing. We're planning a Norway trip next year and we spent all weekend plotting and researching. Last night we'd just booked a cruise and some places to stay, then we had the idea of going to Svalbard. We sussed out flights, tours, and the Radisson but had our doubts. So naturally, I checked whether you or Steve had been there before (he's been to the Faroes, which is another bucket list destination), and I was surprised that neither of you had been there yet. Barely 3 hours later, you post this video of Svalbard - and Steve's up there too! Call it fate, coincidence, the universe... it's a trivial anecdote for you and one of those great coincidences for us, but this video (and seeing Steve there) was enough to convince us to add a week onto our trip so we can properly visit Svalbard. And that's before we even start planning our trip to Antarctica in a couple of years which, yes, will likely see us go where you started this video! Thanks as always for the videos - and for a completely coincidental trip and upload that has inadvertently made us add another highlight on what was already looking like the trip of a lifetime🙂

It's pretty rare humans come into contact with polar bears on Svalbard. It's also a HUGE thing if you shoot one (even in self defense) and you have to go to court to determine if you were justified in shooting the bear. Thank goodness, it's a very rare event. Most of the polar bears want contact with humans as much as they want to fly a coach-class 14 hour flight.

Something so magical about Norway, it is just special. Watching your Svalbard approach from a room for the weekend in Tromsø does make me jealous - but fares more expensive from here than direct from Oslo.
@RadaosАй бұрын
My flight from Oslo to Longyearbyen last year stopped in Tromso, where we went through the terminal building, had our passports checked and got straight back on the same plane. Very strange, something to do with Svalbard being outside the Schengen zone, but why not do the check in Oslo? I flew on the same airline Steve did.
@explorewithbenuelАй бұрын
Oslo to Tromsø is within the Schengen area. You can't be stamped out of Schengen only to proceed to a destination in the zone - whilst the same aircraft, it is still two flights. As for Tromsø to Svalbard, leaving Schengen to any destination means you get stamped out in Tromsø. A return from Svalbard will as such get stamped into Schengen too. Same procedure for overseas territories of France, Denmark and the Netherlands, however in those cases EU IDs are valid.

Great idea there Noel, very enjoyable! The 747 First Class was a real nice treat, I enjoyed that a lot! Wow, Steve Marsh in person, another great high quality KZbinr! Cheers Noel!
