@@carminemurray6624 I presume are referring to the incident involving an overly excited poorly trained yet ridiculously zealous female police officer who shot a man when she was supposed to be tazing him? While we're passing along deserved praise to Sellers and Herbert Lom, let's not forget the man behind the camera, the brilliant, late Blake Edwards. Edwards could be modest about his talents as a comedy director, but sometimes the lack of intrusion and letting talent express itself as he did with Sellers is all that is needed. Edwards once told me he thought his great talent was pointing the camera toward Sellers in a wide shot and saying "Action." Then calling cut when either Sellers was through or everyone was laughing too loud and spoiling the shot.

Well, not having a particular sense of humour isn’t something you can blame someone for just as you can’t blame someone for being introverted or whatever. It’s just different strokes for different folks.

I watched this last night and have seen this movie 20 plus times so I knew what was going to happen when Dreyfuss got the second cigarette and the camera panned to the hallway. You hear the shot the guy opens the door and there he sits with gun residue on his face. I totally lost it and laughed hysterically for 2 minutes. I can't remember the last time this happened been many years and I felt so much better. Sellers and Herbert Lom made people laugh. The best medicine. God bless.

Right at the end of the scene we see poor Chief Inspector Dryfeus's right eye begin to twitch....the start of his unwinding because of Clouseau!! Although it is undoubtably that Sellers was the big star of the Panther films, there is no question that Lom added a depth from how he played his character that brought the films to a elite comedic plain. The more I watch the films the greater respect I give to the great Herbert Lom. I really believe they wouldn't have made more than 2-3 without him.

“The Return of the Pink Panther” - one of the great comedy classics! And a wonderful comeback, ten years later, for Peter Sellers as Inspector Clouseau. Fabulous supporting cast, as well, including Christopher Plummer and Herbert Lom.

A lot of people don't know that Sellers himself invented the entire Clouseau character, including the clothes (hat and trenchcoat), accent, and the character's personality. Starting with second Panther film, Clouseau's crazy word pronunciations and dialog were often ad-libbed on set by Sellers, but worked so well, they would usually change the script on the fly to confirm to Sellers. BTW, Sellers also ad-libbed a lot as Dr. Strangelove, but was so funny, he often had both the other actors and Kubrick in stitches! If you watch the scene where Sellers ad-libbed Strangelove's arm going mental, you can actually see the guy playing the Russian ambassador almost bursting out laughing, because Sellers kept surprising them. The "Mein Furher! I can walk!" was also ad-libbed first take, and Kubrick had to immediately cut away in editing, because all the cast around him paused for a second in surprise, then burst out in a roar of laughing!
