One problem here in Oregon is that kids are encouraged to report their parents to DHS if they "feel" abused. And DHS tends to step in when they shouldn't and not do anything when they should. The entire judicial system here needs recreated. So parents are their kids' friends instead of a strong guidance to be a respectable and responsible human being. I'm glad I don't live in Portland anyone, and I'm raising my kids to know better than this garbage.

@classicalextremism

"Peaceable assembly" is different from "protest". The term was corrupted so as to encompass hostile actions against opponents. Notice that all their acts of "protest" are in fact acts of harassment, disruption, and intimidation. Not a congregation for the sake of sharing ideas. Outsiders are not a fellow to persuade, but an enemy to destroy. And if the "disruption", the violence, is not sufficient to have their demands met they escalate the actions. Creeping, ramping hostility with a long term aim looking towards destruction.

@@scruf153 that's what I mean. Here there are young with the same values as most conservatives. It's the difference in where and how you grew up. If you grew up with liberal values your going to push liberal values if you grew up centrist like me your going to have more regulated views (granted I am now considered conservative.) if you grew up strict Conservative your going to have those views. That being said in my youth I went far left Liberal. It wasn't until I had a job, a kid, a bunch of bills and no help that my values went toward centrist into conservative. Long and short conservatives see reality. They know they have to work for everything to earn things they are not just going to be handed to them. Knowledge and experiences are worth more than politics and appearance. Liberals see the world like they want it to be. Not reality. Appearance is everything. Diversity is everything. This is what I've been saying about liberals vs conservatives. Most conservatives are actual adults, liberals are college aged youths high on idealistic nativity, like we all were when we were young. Difference between when we were young and them, is someone actually gave them social and political power. They're kids who actually got to rule the house like every kid wants to, and we're seeing the consequences. Like Phil said, they're kids who haven't been told no. Addition: not that it matters, but these guys are gen z, they are the children of gen x. I'm a young millenial and I'm 30. Millennials are past our cultural relevance in this country, and we really were not politically active. Just lazy and unable to be adults. These college kids are gen z, the child of gen x. The "Here's your fruit roll ups go play your video games" type parents. The "Okay you can have the ice cream just stop crying" parents. How do I know? Suffice it to say I have seen it.

I'm a conservative, and due to me and my family's circumastances, we are stuck living in Downtown Portland. It's miserable. We do feel like tax hostages, and there's little hope than any of this is going to change. Did everybody hear the crowd cheering when the protesters charged the police? Yep - that's the population of Portland. We can move in two years, and believe me, we are counting the days.

Wish you well. Everyone makes it sound _easy_ to just pick-up and leave. I'm in SoCal, born in South Central LA, lived all over SoCal in various counties. I actually want to stay and do my best to save this state, and I don't live in a county that is unsafe, but I hope to live in a San Diego county Beach community. I've lived in the South in the 70's for 7 LONG years, had enough of the Hot, Humid Summers, Hurricanes, and I don't want to move where its North Dakota type of cold winters. So if I had to move . . . I just don't know where. But "Rent" for a small Studio Apt. ANYWHERE here is freakin' ridiculous. - I'll be signing (again) any new Recall for Newsom and anyone who wants to turn CA into "Elysium".

LOS ANGELES, May 1 (Reuters) - Violent clashes erupted on Wednesday on the campus of the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA) between pro-Palestinian protesters and a group of counter-demonstrators, according to live video coverage provided by a U.S. broadcaster. (Al Jazeera) A demonstration against Israel’s war on Gaza at the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA) turned violent when a vigilante pro-Israel mob attacked a solidarity encampment occupied by peaceful pro-Palestinian protesters. Witnesses said the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) only intervened after nearly four hours of the attacks, which started overnight into Wednesday when masked pro-Israel counter-demonstrators, who appeared in their hundreds from outside the university campus, hurled fireworks into the encampment. The attackers, carrying Israeli flags, then tried to tear down the pro-Palestinian camp, assaulting students with pepper spray, sticks, stones and metal fencing. Police stood by, failing to protect students, who re-commandeered the metal fencing thrown at them to shield themselves, said Joey Scott, an investigative journalist speaking to Al Jazeera from the scene.

@@mgancarzjr Al-Jazeera is Hamas' propaganda outlet (both funded directly by the Qatari government), I recommend you find better sources. Either way, I'm not saying that pro-Palestinians are _always_ violent and pro-Israelis are _always_ calm and peaceful. I am, however, saying that there is a very clear and obvious general trend among these two groups, and only one of them resembles a civilized society.

I heard one of the best lines ever in an anime called "Windbreaker." I'll probably butcher it, but it goes something like, "Two things you need to ascend to adulthood: imagination and experience," referring to imagining getting faced with brutal reality and then experiencing it firsthand. These kids have never faced brutal reality. Therefore, they can't imagine it happening. They just got a rude awakening and are truly experiencing "adulting."
