Johanna was easily the best character of the season for me, My favorite moments with her was when she saved Hilda from that spider frog, seriously she was f**king badass going all in with a rotary saw and her as child interacting with Hilda, it was adorable seeing her when she was kid

Honestly this vies with House in the Woods for my favourite episode of the whole series. Maybe it's because I find Johanna the most interesting character and I saw this as a great character study leading up to her climactic choice in Fairy Isle, or maybe it's because I love when the show reflects comfort tinged with unsettling corruption, or when the show pushes the envelope a bit (like with Eternal Warriors or Fifty Year Night).

I know it was rly unsettling and I liked it a lot. Also with Johanna not remembering the place bc of Astrid putting a memory loss spell on her but her subconscious memories of it caused her to make those pictures and her figuring out they were real sent shivers down my spine. And after all the nice stuff Hilda and her mum did together, it just made the unsettling vibe even higher.

Yeah, forgotten lake was probably my favorite part of the series, it just gave vibes similar to the first few episodes while adding some horror touches. I would put house in the woods up there but Johanna is my favorite character in the series.

The fairy mound was my 2nd favourite episode. The mound, the mushroom eye creatures, the hooded figures, Johanna's and Astrid's thoughts and past... the mystery behind it all was so captivating! The writing for it all never felt strange. Also with the first introduction to a troll, the black hound, the void, and the time worm, I fail to see how the horror aspects with The fairy mound and The forgotten lake can seem too out of place.

I really loved the paralel they made with s2 "The deerfox" with the "Fairy Isle". In the episode in S2 there is this scene in which Hilda complains about the fact that everything changed "The mountains is gone, our house is gone and now Twig is gone too" and then Joahanna conforts Hilda saying that it is the way of the world for things to change and now in S3 Hilda could live in a perfect world where nothing changes but she refuses because for her a world that doesnt change isnt a real world and now Joahanna that has finally found her parents has to leave them again because she loves Hilda more. Also, the shadows in the wall during the last scene shows that no matter where Joahanna and Hilda be their family would always be watching them... 😢 Sorry for poor english, cheers from Brazil mate.

The way I understood it, the Forgotten Lake was meant to set up the idea that not all creatures are good or bad. They just are. And then, when Færie was introduced in the final episode as like a neutral entity of sorts, it resonated with the watchers bc theyd already been introduced to this notion. But also it wasn't executed as well as it could've been. I still liked it myself though, bc the creature reminded me of old stories of Færie with overwhelmingly powerful entities who just... dont care lol

Personally I loved 'the forgotten lake'! Not only did it give some more great interactions between Hilda and Johanna, it also showed just how far Johanna is willing to go to protect her daughter. The moment where she has to decide between saving herself or "dying" with Hilda, she basically didn't hesitate to let go of the car and be with her daughter to the end. I loved the mysterious vibes of the creature and the lake itself. Also the fact the episode did take a more horror like form I didn't mind, even if it wasn't what we'd expect. It does show that despite most creatures being rather peaceful or friendly, there are always going to be hidden monsters none the less. Overall Johanna was the best character this episode with many badass but also vulnerable moments that all show how much she loves Hilda. It might be a bit confusing at times, but to me that doesn't overshadow the rest of the episode. I'd rate it a 9/10!

Yeah. Honestly, The Forgotten Lake was probably one of my highest rated episodes too ❤ I’m actually glad they decided to put in a creature that was actually benevolent towards the characters, because I feel like the show sometimes leans too far into the post modern ‘all creatures are not really dangerous’ message. It worked with the trolls, obviously, but I feel like with some other creatures/places that shouldn’t have been the case.

I never understand why in each Hilda season many people say that is mid or "not that good" and then they just put really subjective arguments that in the end are more opinions than anything else. For example I read some comments saying that the giantslayer was the worst episode and the only good ones were the ones about Tofoten. But in your review you say the opposite. Anyway good video.

Then victoria said going to her island was one of the best things that could happen to her. I think you need to watch it again. Also Hilda is certainly not the type to hold a grudge. She got partially ate by the spider thing and became friends with it.

I liked the horror aspect even though it feels a bit out of place it’s nice to see the creators experimenting with other genre’s my main complaint is that it’s the last season I would still love to see more of this world. Here’s a list of episodes that I want to happen: Where did the laughing merman go? (Aquatic circus) Where do the giant’s go? (Interplanetary Valentine’s Day) Where did the giant raven come from? (Raven nest) This is only some of my suggestions.

Or… Why we never see guys doing magic? (The Sorcerer) We’ve also seen water and weather spirits, so what about other nature spirits? (The Fire Spirit or The Earth Spirit (although trolls could be seen as Earth spirits)) And I feel like there are still things about nowhere space that we don’t know anything about. Like how Victoria got sent to the island near the borderlands. So outside nowhere space is connected to the island? Also, there is obviously a connection because of the radio signals in “Strange Frequencies” being clearer in nowhere space. I also would have liked to see more stuff with magic, Frida learning, the librarian, the witches tower, and the counsel of three witches.

I speedran the third season because why not. Forgotten Lake shocked me (in a good way) The unexpected introduction of this creature chasing, hurting, and eating the main cast was so surprising and intense that I completely forgot there were a few more episodes left. Maybe my view of this season is skewed because I went in blind, but I honestly think none of the episodes were bad or even mediocre. They all ranged from enjoyable to good to great.
@mikandstuff3119

Honestly, this season DID feel out of place or different from the rest of the seasons because it felt more serialised rather than episodic (which is usually hilda’s formula) because never has an arc stretched through the entire season. The scene in episode 6 where Hilda and her mum get eaten was actually sad though- at least in my perspective. I knew they weren’t actually gonna die because there were still two episodes left. But it was genuinely heartbreaking and very emotional, especially when Twig cried- MAN THAT SCENE BROKE ME, TEARED ME APART. The sixth episode is the most episode that is out-of-place from the third season. I wouldn’t say it was bad, just weird..but so damn scary man, you could feel the tension and fear and the dark realism about it. And OH MA GOD, the voice-acting is just spectacular and so dang realistic, it was genuinely frightening when hilda was taken by the frog spider and the voice acting made sure that we’d get that feeling of pure fright and dread I wish if they could’ve done more with Louise, either that or just don’t introduce her or just make it so that she didn’t want to join the freaky friends as the fourth freaky friend. She could’ve showed up in episode 5 or 7. Episode 7 could’ve been about her and not about the Nisse The finale is really amazing, heartbreaking and just..perfect as a hilda finale. Kinda out of place which is its only major flaw, but it is just amazing..and insanely dark, why did we have to see Johanna die- i have never felt my heart drop like that man But glad to know hilda and her mum have fairy powers!

I really enjoyed this season a lot. I actually kinda have this tied being my favorite along with Season 2. But I will agree that this season has some flaws. Mine being the new 8 episodes instead of the usual 13. I don’t understand why they decided to go with this, to me it makes this season feel a little restrained. I can see more stories in this season happening like some filler episodes. Maybe we could’ve seen Frida do some more witch training with Kaisa, Tildy, etc. I do have some other complaints with this season but they are kinda the same as everyone else’s. It’s still a good season in my opinion and a fitting end to Hilda

I was about to protect "the forgotten lake" but since everybody loves it... I will say that the whole season feel more "real". I think i get it when Joan ask Hilda to stay on a calm and eternal place, almost like heaven, and when Hilda says that she wants changes and adventures, the auntie said "she's just 13". Hilda wanted to be friends with monsters and explored the world cus she's young and doesn't really have to deal with the cruelty lf the world in a level that affected her. The frog-spider monster was an example, even when he tried to kill them, she steel wanted to be his friend, just like a kid. I really like the screams and crying cus make me feel even more happy with the beauty of the world of Hilda, and despite all the darkness around, there will be light if you are with the right people. Idk, i like most of the season (nisses's episode was a flop, i know) but it feels more "cruel" and real for me, which makes the ending more appealing to me

The thing that I especially loved about the ending was in the final frames of the show. Where Hilda sees the shadows of her grandparents and the whole time we saw them in the show(except for the last episode) It always was eerie with creepy music playing, making it seem like they were going to be the main antagonists of the whole season. But when we finally found out who they truly were. Hilda in the last frames of the show instead of being creeped out by the shadows or scared. Now is happy knowing that it was really her family watching over her the whole time. Just felt like a good addition to the ending. 7/10 for the whole season imo

The biggest problem I have with this season is that it feels so unconnected to the previous 2 seasons. Season 3 felt like it was trying to introduce so many plot elements without a consistent theme, and it barely build on elements in season 2. I completely agree with you that season 3 felt mid. This is one of my favorite shows so seeing the finale go made me wonder why they decided to make some choices. Rather than the individual episodes, I believe it was the general flow that had a lacking compared to the previous two seasons. A major example is how the side characters feelings and struggles actually affected the story (ex. David character development, Frida's dissconnection arc, and twigs runaway). If you rewatch s3, the characters seemed much more support than independent personalities. Such as when Frida & David were getting sick of her fairy obssession and worried for the radio signal. They gave their say but instead of addressing it more they just let it be. I liked the nissee episode since it taught that instead of taking, sharing and cooperating is better but it could've been fueled more if they potrayed how much Hilda was trying to take out of her friends time rather than share her own as well to help Frida. Even throughout the episode, it didn't change the potray that Hilda was mainly doing it for selfish reasons (showing posters of her dad instead of invites or fighting over the radio) nor did they have Frida/David address it. Don't mean for Frida or David to address it negatively but they should at least do more about this behavior besides keep floating in their own space. Another note was how they seemed to throw everything in the past two seasons out the window and put it in occasional cameos when it could've been implemented. I know trolls had practically a whole season and movie but knowing how suddenly they are one with people and visit the city once a year, it would've been amazing to see an extra episode of how this change actually effects it rather than just shrug it off. I was personally really expecting to see how the change in the movie would affect the next season but instead it was like nothing happened. There's no people outlashing (which was noted that some were unhappy in the movie), there's no reports of people stealing/adopting trolls or troll children, not even showing how the city might've changed for the unity. Every time I watch s1/2, there's constant background details and growing development of what's to come next so having a disregard to that flow felt a bit strange. It's understandable why the lake episode was iffy but I think the main point was to show how there's a deeper layer than the surface and also introduce that Johanna has memory loss of her childhood. Although this doesn't stick well for it isn't dragged as much through the (sadly) short season and supports the relation I've made above via the trolls and how the previous seasons would carry on details and impacts. It's understandable for them to put it as a focus on hilda and her family but there was also so much potiental such as adding impactful character relationships (as before), transition of troll and humans, those small details that fortell what's to come and even side episodes for the other characters we've been aquainted with. Even if they added no extra episodes, the small tweaks to keep the shows unique timeline would've made this star show shine brighter than before.

When Hilda casually threw out that thing made out of sticks, which would obviously lead to something bad, I was just: "Didn’t she supposed to be grown up this time?". The forgotten lake was alright, the creature seemed interesting, but hard to listen to, and the plot at the end was hinting that Johanna’s childhood memory was wiped. Flying mushrooms looked scary and there’s nothing wrong about it, didn’t understand your reasoning :/ However the episode with nissa stealing from each other - I thought it was connected to Victoria and the radio working better in nowhere space, but it wasn’t, this plot was redundant, especially considering it’s the final season. I also kinda complain that the dad was revealed late without any prerequisite and given little screen time.

So, I have to disagree with you on the Forgotten Lake as to me this is one of if not the best episode in the third season. Though I must agree with you on how awkward the Spiderfrogs offer of friendship was or that Hilda was so quick on forgiving him. As for the rest of the season, I agree with your assessment on every episode and the finale. The only problem I really have with this season is that both Louise and the Merman had had only one prominent episode. They are both strong characters and I pray that one day we will see more of them. And regarding the shortened season, both the author and the showrunner confirmed on twitter that the season had been cut short like the owl, fortunately not to the same degree but it explains why Louise, the merman, Kaisa, Tildy, the Marra and Gerda did not have a prominent role in the final season. That all being said, I do still hold a little bit of hope that we will see more Hilda in the future. Maybe not in form of a sequel or reboot but something like new books or even a video game. And of course I will be looking forward to whatever Luke Pearson and the team behind Hilda will be doing next. At least the former seems to be inclined into writing more Hilda-stories in the future. Maybe Netflix will adapt these yet-to-be-written stories as well.

It feels like the original idea was to do a standard season and a movie again, but instead got told that this will be the final season, so they just tried to salvage all the ideas that they had. The movie idea got stretched into a couple of episodes and they threw in the rest as standalones in the middle. It's just weird, it doesn't really work this way. The standalone episodes try to set up new characters who have no chance to shine since developement has been cut short. Louise looked like a fun character who had no second chance, and Anders... I couldn't care less about Anders, other than the one episode that's written with him in mind, he's just dead weight. He doesn't do ANYTHING in the finale, he has no real place in the family by the end, he's just there so we can say he exists. Also, I think the finale is so good that it makes the other episodes look bad in comparison. It really should have been its own movie, I'm absolutely convinced that this was the original plan. Sad to see it all end in a kind of messy way, this show deserved so much better.

I think that overall episodes of that season done their job of leading to that finall episode witch was pretty epic. I agree that they could have done it better, and i think one of the strangest things to me was that some episodes were made to introduce characters, places and everything for that finall episode, and some were completely without mentioning those things (like for example that sea episode could introduce new character that would play some role in that finall episode and i think that would work but instead that character never appeared again, and that episode didn't played any role in the future). I would prefer to see all season of that "normal" episodes which would also be very slowly and consistent with introducing those new things and leading to the end episode. But overall i think it was great ending of beautiful series that I love watching and probably will do it again for some time (Sr for my English)

I agree with a lot of the comments that the fairy mound and forgotten lake were really cool episodes and that they didn't feel out of place. What I don't understand is the introduction of Louise. I was so excited that we were getting another member of the group and it felt like the show was setting us up for more cool adventures with Louise, but then they just threw her away and we never saw her again. Season Three could have been way better if they had replaced the nisse episode with an episode with Louise while also adding Louise into the fairy Isle finale. This would connect season three instead of it being a mumble jumble of random adventures.

Honestly, most of what you said is pretty fair. However, there are some points I totally disagree on. First of all, I thought the horror aspect of this season didn’t feel out of place at all. Hilda and her friends are older (Astrid explicitly said Hilda is 13). So, a much darker Season felt inevitable. At least in my opinion. I do agree with you about “The Giantslayer” being a great episode, especially for the humbling message it sends to Hilda. “The Job” also felt like an underwhelming episode to me, but I liked that they brought in Hilda’s Dad and brought back Hilda’s ability to speak to Trolls. “The Forgotten Lake” was probably my highest ranked episode (after “The Fairy Isle”, of course). While I agree that the Spider Frog came out of nowhere, I think it was a long overdue move to have a creature that was just bad. One of my only criticisms of the show as a whole is that it leans too much into the post modern ‘all creatures are misunderstood’ angle. (The same applies to the Fairy Entity.) Again, Hilda and Co are older. So, having the message in there that some creatures are just evil felt like a logical progression. And “Strange Frequencies”. This felt like it was an episode meant to showcase Frida’s character growth. While I was watching it, I was constantly comparing her behaviour in the episode with her behaviour in “The Ghost” and there was DEFINITELY a change. (If anything, I was really frustrated by Hilda’s behaviour in the episode.) While I do think the episode was a little divided in its focus, the main thing that it was attempting to do, which was showing how not only Frida has matured but her relationship with her friends has improved, was definitely achieved. It just, maybe, wasn’t the best plot hook to use the Nisse. Actually, I think the Trolls, the Witches or even the Marra would’ve been better. Speaking of characters, I don’t think David was the butt of jokes nearly as much as he was in the previous two Seasons. And, I think him saving Hilda, Anders and Twig in “The Fairy Isle” was absolutely my favourite moment for him ever. It really shows how he’s become braver. There are actually quite a few moments like that in the previous episodes. This was just the best one. Finally, while the Season could have absolutely benefited from two or three more episodes, I think they did pretty well with what they had. And, again the darker tone made sense for the fact that Hilda and Co are older. I totally loved this Season and I’m actually excited to rewatch some of the episodes for details I missed.

Here are my criticizing thoughts on Season 3: 1. Season 3 would've been a good opportunity to see Frida interact with her parents more because while we have seen Hilda interact with both her parents and David interact with both his parents, we didn't get to see a lot with Frida and her parents. I wanted to see if they know about Frida being a witch or not. 2. Louise was heavily underutilized in Season 3 and I wish she played more of a role here. 3. Hilda, Frida, and David's status as the Freaky Friends seemed like an interesting plot point. It would've been interesting to see how their reputation would affect their relationship with other kids like Trevor and the Marra or even the adults. But "The Freaky Friends" title just got thrown out the window. 4. Because of Hilda's nightmares about the fairies, it would've been a great opportunity to bring back the Marra but they didn't 5. For me, I think "Strange Frequencies" was the worst episode of Season 3, if not, the whole show. When Frida met her Nisse, not only did the latter steal her book again, but also, we never learn if Frida ever got it back and we never got to see an actual reconciliation between the two. With the rest of the episode, it feels like a waste of time and I believe if the "Lending Library" and "The Fairy Mound" message were revealed in the first half, then we would've gotten a proper story.

Hilda, on the other hand, answered many questions and mysteries like how Johanna was theorized by fans to have childhood amnesia and in fact revealed in a far more natural way than Star VS did. @@VigilanteLulu The finale fell flat in almost everyway. It pulled its emotional punches at the last minute and let nothing stick. It didn't even let Astrid stay dead. But, more importantly, the fairy stuff recontextualizes the entire series for the worst. Giving Hilda fairy powers and making her part fairy ruins her entire character. She is supposed to represent the good humanity has to offer, but, she isn't even human. You may not like the events that happened in the Star finale, but, they far better fit their respective series than the Hilda finale. The Hilda finale retroactively changes the meaning of the entire series for the worst. It thematically defeats the entire purpose of the show.

@@coolspider295 Star VS started out as a goofy fantasy comedy about a princess from another dimension staying on earth to train with her magic as an exchange student. It was a charming setup that allowed for some enjoyable jokes and concepts. Unfortunately, at the end of S2, it kinda threw that away in favour of a serialized approach with multiple subplots involving different characters making it harder to keep up with, resulting in the show biting off more than it could chew and distracting from the original plot, tone and appeal of the show. Hilda, on the other hand, manages to keep its focus on Hilda, her adventures, the creatures she encounters (the fairies being among those creatures meaning it still fits the tone of the series) and bond she shares with her friends and mother. The atmosphere still remains consistent, the tone remains consistent and even if there are like a few S3 episodes like Strange Frequencies that didn't really need to be there, everything you know and love about the series from the get-go is still there and still magical. It EARNED its ending.

Throughout the show, we are led to believe that Hilda is a regular human being. She often has to confront the awful actions taken by other humans. This is done to depict the dichotomy between the good human beings are capable of compared to the bad. If she isn't even human, and all her good qualities come from her race (fairies), the show's entire message is voided.

Having finishing up the third and final season of Hilda, I have quite mix feelings on this one. I started Hilda two months ago, having watch the utter cruel and mean-spirited show that is Lost Ollie, I wanted to watch a show that was Heart Warming, Fun and all and all a good time, and I figure that since Hilda did finish up not long after I finished up Lost Ollie, I decite to make that the show I watch. For the first two seasons, I really did had a good time with the show, I mean I do preferer more Actiony-Story Driven Shows a bit more, but I really did enjoy the atmosphere, the beautiful Steven Universe-like Animation, the humor, the characters and the overall warm feeling that it brings along with it. I dare say that I watch this over "Hey Arnold!", I mean the show's not PERFECT mind you (I'm looking at you Chapter 9: The Ghost), but it was a plesent time. For the Hilda and the Mountain King film that I watch after Season 2, it was also a good time, it really did have some strong emotion that I don't think that I felt since "Christmas With Holly", the film DID had some flaws as well but I can let those slide, it was a really good movie. But THEN came Season 3, in which the quality for the show felt a bit...... Rought. I mean this Season was good don;t get me wrong, but it has a lot of odd elements here-and-there. The first of theses reasons is Hilda's, Frida's and Davids new designs for this Season, I mean from the Posters I DID knew what I was expecting, but I really was turn off seeing the kids' new designs that that also holds true for Davids new voice. The second of which is how most(if not all) of the characters from the previous Seasons bare appear in this season, I mean more populare characters such as The Great Raven, Enid Hallgrim, the Mulch Manager, Frida's mom, Frida's dad, David's mom and David's dad, Matilda Pilqvist and Peter Ostenfeld, Trevor and his friends, Rat King, Kaisa, David's Marra and the other Marra from Season 1 Episode 12/13, Gerda Gustav, Raven Leader, Louise, and some other Sparrow Scouts, nearly ALL of them play such as small role in this season, and I'm quite sadden by that. The third/final of which is the Quailitie of the episodes themselves: I did enjoy the first two episodes, and episode 3 was an interesting take on the first two episodes of Hilda Season 1, but then came episode 4 were I was so dumb-founded though out the whole episode, it really feels like it was ment to be a Season 1 or 2 Filler episode but was then decited to be place as a Season 3 episode instead, it felt so random that I was just ""Uggghhhh......". I will also say that episode 5 was a good episode as it introduce Hilda's Father, but then we get to the Train Wreck that is episode 6 were......Oh My God I did not like, I DO get what this episode was going form really I do, but to have Hilda and her mother be friends with a Spider Frog monster that NEARLY ATE THEM mind you just feels so stupted and not a great leason for kids in my eyes (Note: And before anyone of youy ask, no its no joke, I REALLY do hate this episode). The last two episodes however do far much better, the penultimate episode OK tho it did feel a bit like filler, but the final episode "Chapter 8: The Fairy Isle", was near perfection, I really was at the edge of my seat as I watch it and all it all, it was a REALLY good Series Finale in my eyes. All-In-All, I really did enjoy Hilda, and I can safely say it is as good as many people say it is, it's just that Season 3 really did feel rush in someways, and given the fact that what I hear is true as well as explain Season 3's 8 episodes as appose to the 13 episodes like the previous seasons, that could be an explanation, despite that... Hilda is still a great time from begging to end, and I'm SO happy that I got to watch it. By the way good review you did @ReyGGTVFilms, good review.

My problem with Season 3 is that it tries to tell a more grand scale story but fails miserably. Not everything is setup properly and the show has to rely on increasingly annoying deus ex machina to fill in the gaps. I feel it could have been really good if the writers took time to set stuff up. It tries really hard to deliver pay offs, but, without the proper setup, it doesn't work. Spoilers: It also pulls its greatest punch at the last moment. Bringing Astrid back was a huge misstep that ruins what little impact the finale could have had. I actually hated the finale. I am glad the show ended when it did.

I wouldn't say it "failed" per se. Given that it was Netflix execs who sabotaged with Luke and the team's plans by shortening the season, I'd say the writers did the best with what they could. So all things considered, whatever you may think of the episodes leading up the finale, The Fairy Isle made it all worth it in order to cement Hilda as one of the all-time greats. Also, you gotta admit it was a much better ending than say, Star VS or Voltron Legendary Defender.

@@VigilanteLulu I think Fairy Isles is actually the worst episode in the entire show. It pulls its punches instead of delivering worth-while pay offs. They were literally giving exposition dumps in the last 30 minutes of a 2 hour episode. Nothing in the finale is setup properly and the bizzare last-minute character changes retro-actively ruin earlier parts of the show. I doubt Netflix intentionally sabotaged the show. The shortening of season 3 could have been a factor, but, there were much better directions they could have taken narratively. I think "Hilda" will go down as a show remembered similarily to "The Promised Neverland". A show that started of brilliantly but crashed and burnt in the final act. I feel shortening the season may have been the correct choice. With the creative decisions being made, someone needed to take the show away from the writers before they could do even more damage.

Honestly, my feelings about Hilda S3 was…neutral. I love the ideas of the Fairies and such but it pretty much took over everything about the season and didn’t leave much else to grow. Like I was severely disappointed that we never got an episode about how the people of Trollberg deal with the peace treaty with the Trolls. Hilda’s father while not terrible, he is not what I was expecting, and Frida and the others didnt get much focus, and Hilda and Joanna didn’t really exploring their Fairy Heritage as much as I hoped But honestly my biggest problem was the finale because…well…Fairy Country was not as amazing or cool as I thought it will be but I blame more on shortening the episodes. I would’ve loved if we were in Fairy Country for two episodes to really explore the place and find out how things work there. And I really hate that the bad guy won in the end and Hilda will never see her Grandparents again. It honestly doesn’t feel like S3 is a conclusion of the show like the movie did. If this wasn’t the final season, I wouldn’t have been so upset but since it is, the S3 Finale just feels more bittersweet…

I had thought S2 had taught her not to be reckless, or assume that just because everything isn't the *she* wants it--with everyone singing koombaya, therefore it must be all wrong. Thankfully S3 Ep4 went back to the current character of Hilda, and I can just sum up all the plot relevance of ep 3 to: "Hilda got a charm."

Meh ending. I understand what they wanted to do, but Hilda was effectively over at the end of the Mountain King. It wraps up the general overarching story, the explanation for trolls (sort of except for the troll civil war subplot that never gets touched on), and it has a satisfying ending for all the characters, especially the ones that should've actually been in their instead of David or Frida *ba dump tish* The final season is superfluous. Its not bad, but they introduce an Aunt, Hilda's Dad, Hilda's Grandparents, and for some reason that Victoria Van Gale character is STILL doing things even though most people thought we moved on from her ages ago. No, but seriously, what is this show's hard-on with Victoria Van Gale? I don't even understand why her character exists to be frank. Same with Hilda's Dad showing up to do nothing while Hilda is like, "Yeah guys of course I've had my Dad this whole time you just never see him." Sure. An Aunt that lives far away enough to take a train, but not too far that Hilda's mom can jog the distance when her breaks down? Sure. Some all seeing evil fairy godmother ancient evil hooded thing runs the fairy island dimension and nothing about its magic or where they came from or what the point of it is is ever explained. I actually now know less about Fairies then I did before and btw- Hilda and her Mom can't even fly or do magic. Remember how the second season was like, "Frida is a witch now," and then nothing happened? Remember how Woodman gets shafted entirely because they can't subtract one other useless side-character like David to have a little bit of banter from him? The final season is missing content I've heard, and that would explain a crapload of weird story directions and strangely compacted final few episodes with I think at least three filler episodes in a Season shorter than all the rest so far? How did you make time for those episodes, but nothing featuring Kaisa, or the rat-king, or anybody from the Safety Patrol (who should technically have disbanded as well). Its just very schizophrenic, inconsistent, and ends on the show encapsulating what it does best putting a woman in charge, watching her create problems and then screw up solving them. That's almost every episode of this gay baby show outside of maybe a handful of genuine heartwarming moments and decent writing.

Just watched the finale and I agree it was an emotional gut-punch and satisfying ending to an overall tremendous Netflix gem. Even though admittedly this third season wasn't quite as consistent or memorable overall as the first two season with one or two filler-ish eps, the heart and atmosphere still managed to shine through and the characters really developed with their age-up. Really made this finale well worth the somewhat filler-ish S3 episodes. It's pretty amazing that within an era of story-driven animated shows, Hilda managed to create its own identity using its best attributes: -its atmosphere (heighten by its backgrounds and BGM) -Fluid animation by Mercury Filmworks -A UK voice cast led by Bella Ramsey Most importantly tho, the writing is mostly superb and really took its time (and production with 2-3 years between seasons) to establish the wild and wonderful world that Hilda and her friends inhabit. That allowed for a much tighter pace than many of its contemporaries like Amphibia and The Owl House, which, as great as those are, were hindered by Disney execs meddling with the planned length. All in all, I had a tremendous time following this wonderful show for 5 years. I would say it's better than most shows of its ilk and remains imo, the BEST animated show from Netflix and I doubt I'll see any other show come close any time soon.

I liked the season, but it felt so weird to not carry on with the aftermath of the movie, and just going from 2 seasons of Trolls being a focus to them barely being relevant in the series, especially if a viewer isn't aware of the fact that there's a movie between seasons 2 and 3. It did feel weird to just jump from Trolls to fairies, but hey, it is what it is, and I still enjoyed the season! The only thing that threw me off was that Hilda's father ended up just being some guy bc I was really attached to the headcanon of him being the bellkeeper and him and Joanna maybe having a second chance romance subplot potentially

S3 was still a 10 compared to most TV, but compared to the previous seasons it’s about an 8. Imo Hilda peaked at Old Bells of Trolberg.

Jesus the comments are biased. I have to agree that this season is a big disappointment. The whole thing reveal that we’ve all been waiting for of who Hilda’s Father really is barely touched opponent and happened in the last minute. With everything else thrown out of the window. And the build up to the fairy island goes nowhere as it happened only to the end of the series.

I personally loved s3 as much as the first 2. It doesn't try to be anything else other than what Hilda already is: cosy adventures about a girl who does too much

When watching season 3 of hilda it was pretty good for the most part and i liked that they put more horror settings in this seasons as well and yeah 10:39 that episode made was great for johanna's moment when trying to bond with her daughter ,and i was also tyring to figure what that spider thing was saying as well, and i can relate as well i really wanted to go inside the screen and just cut its legs using that circular saw and rip its head off for some reason, and you know whats more interesting if we could have an episode of the marra's again for this final season and it was a miss opportunity if david's marra would tell her real name if she was the focus of the episode that would have been an interesting way if the nightmare spirits returned for this season.

When i watched the Laughing Merman, i thought i was the only one who geniunely enjoyed Eugene as a character. I wish he had gotten at least one more appearance, and i don't like how some overrated/dull characters keep getting a dedicated episode (looking at you nisse) Personally, I agree with everything this video says about the season, Although i would generally rate it higher.

Personally I loved most of season 3. I agree with some of your points. But honestly my biggest critique is Hildas Dad. I don't get it, I feel like he wasn't fully explored. Like Johanna explains he's an adventurer that just leaves out of the blue to which I understand. But then we find out he was dragged to the fairy world against his wishes. So I expected when Hilda found him he would start to explain why he hasn't been there for Hilda a lot. But we never got an explanation. So if I'm being honest I would have preferred him not existing as his whole presence makes me ask many questions that should have been answered. What do you think?

Here's the big question I have about the season...are Hilda's grandparents not able to see her again (in person, that is)

Yeah this season was pretty good (even if they didn’t have to make the finale as long as you average Pixar movie) though I wish they could have let Hilda keep the skirt, but I think I know why they didn’t (the first time we saw non skirt Hilda was in the last 2 or so minutes of the movie and I think since the animators only had to animate 50 more seconds of Hilda they were a bit lazy and didn’t and or forgot to give her a skirt and they didn’t want to change that for season 3.)

It's funny because I have the opposite opinion, I think that the murman And his musical numbers don't fit the show at all, and thought that the giant slayer was a redundant, and loved the forgotten lake as a return to form for the show , being an absolutely phenomenal Johanna centered episode Overall Johanna is the BEST element of the season hands down

I could not disagree more with the highs and lows, I thought the Giantslayer episode was a zero-stakes waste of time, whereas the Forbidden Lake episode was probably the second best one after the finale.

I honestly think that they should’ve done a much better job at explaining the evil ferry entities whole deal, and apparently they’re dying and how that relates to the fairy country being in decline and what would happen if they do die?
